A new Pastor from St Vincent and the Grenadines has been named for the People’s Pentecostal Family Church in Goodwill.

The position has been vacant since the passing of Bishop Bill Daniel on August 22, 2014.

Pastor Casmus John will be formally introduced to the congregation on Sunday. He arrived in Dominica with his family last Wednesday.

Presiding Bishop of the Dominica District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies International, Ninian St Louis, told Dominica News Online (DNO) that Pastor John has been in ministry for over 15 years.

“He is involved in counseling and also a lecturer in St Vincent…,” Bishop St Louis said.

Since John was named new pastor of the church, questions were being asked as to why wasn’t a local one chosen to take up the position.

But according to St. Louis the Pentecostal Church is a ‘fellowship’ and whenever there is a vacancy in a church, anyone is entitled to apply.

“We are a fellowship and whenever there is a vacancy at the Church, it has to be advertised in the various districts and any Minister who is qualified and meet the criteria, they have a right to apply and that was done,” he said.

He stated that John was interviewed “and based upon the interview he was presented to the church and the church voted in favour of him.”

St. Louis described John as a “family man.” He is married and is father to three children.

John’s predecessor, Bishop Daniel, served in many pastoral capacities in a career that spanned several decades and was awarded the Dominica Meritorious Service Award, the nation’s third highest award.

He was laid to rest on September 8, 2014

Some people are so obsessed with politics and so used to bad mouthing whoever happens to be the current Prime Minister they carry this over into church life.

Church and politics are two different things.

A true (Bible based and Christ centered) church is a congregation of believers gathered around the Lord Jesus Christ and subject to His inspired Word. It is ruled and ministered to by pastors – one of which is the senior or lead pastor – and these people are raised up by God. No, being a pastor is not a “job”, it is a ministry individuals are called to by God.

To be a minister in the Pentecostal Assemblies (as I am in Canada) the candidate must agree with our beliefs. Naturally if a man did not believe in “speaking in tongues” he could not be a pastor among us because that is one of our doctrines. In he same way a man could not be a Roman Catholic priest if he did not believe in “the mass”, and other Catholic teachings.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International…

Too much confusion in these churches. That book called the bible has people in a stupor and their heads are looking up to the clouds, awaiting for some spirit to return to rapture them. That is not going to happen as long as we have breath. People need to wake up and realise that men are responsible for these so-called scriptures to keep people subdued and passive. Another form of enslavement. This book causes men to be divided, hating one another, and even making fun of each other in the name of religion. Religion and politics are some of the tools that men have put in place for control of the mind. Awake out of the stupor, my peolpe and come to your senses, reasonings and critical thinking.

Inspired by the Bible Christian churches and ministries feed the hungry, build and operate schools and orphanages, clinics and hospitals, dig wells for clean water, and rescue young women from the sex trade.

These works have been going on for many years and continue to this day. In my travel as an evangelist I see these things in progress.

Far from dividing people and causing them to hate and make fun of one another the Bible is a source of light and understanding. Let me illustrate this with a true story.

A wealthy American tourist was in Africa for a big game hunt. Walking through a village he saw a African man sitting under a tree reading a book. “What is that book” he asked the man. “It is a Bible” replied the native. “The American answered “That book is out of date in my country.” The African said “If it was out of date here you would have been eaten long ago. My people were cannibals before this book came.”

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International…

Europeans made other African people believe that the continental Africans were cannibals. They have painted Africa and Africans with everything negative. When you look up the word “black” in the dictionary, it depicts everything negative and the word “white” depicts everything good. This was done by design to make black people hate their race and embrace white people as good. That’s why the christian savior is white.
No one can convince me otherwise as far as religion is concerned. Religion was instituted to enslave and keep black people docile, oppressed, inferior and stupid. Slavery is backed up by the so-called scriptures. To hell with christianity and all other religions under the sun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

was he selected for a particular purpose? I fail to believe that there was not one single local pastor who could have been chosen for the position. Why was the criteria for selection for the Roseau church so rigid and tough but not the same for Portsmouth? This is all politics. We will see.

    • February 12, 2015

Why or how a particular man is chosen to fill a particular pastorate should be of concern only to those who are members of the church. Theses are matters that belong “in the family” and frankly outsiders should not involve themselves.

I can tell you that the candidate himself, the deacons of the church, and the candidate’s district superintendent must feel the man is God’s choice. They come to this agreement after much prayer and discussion. The man’s qualifications are looked at. His ministry history is scrutinized. Some personal and penetrating questions are asked. As a pastoral candidate I have been through the process a number of times so I am qualified to share this information in a general way without commenting on any one particular case.

We congratulate Pastor John, his family, and the congregation.

Is it true that Peter Augustine applied for the position; Why was he not accepted; Is he too qualified? Just asking. and is it further true this did not go down well with him and he retaliated in an unchristian manner?

    • I speak in tongues 2
      February 11, 2015

@apostle Mark, I can cofirm that Peter Augustine indeed apply and was not accepted. However, everything about his application was just their way of keeping two Pentecostal pastors out, since according to them, they are UWPites. His unchristian like manner you talking about was just faked because they all knew Peter does not believe in speaking in tongues, and that is one of the key requirements to pastor a Pentecostal church. They had Peter to apply just so that they could use his rejection to justify their reason for rejecting those other pastors, who were rejected because of partisan politics. By using Peter who was never qualified, they could convince people that it was not political since Peter is a known DLP, and yet was rejected too. It was a well cooked plan that took place during the funeral of the late bishop when all of them met. You just have to learn to interpret tongues Apostle Mark.

      • February 11, 2015

I speak in tongues 2 February 11, 2015—“They all knew Peter does not believe in speaking in tongues, and that is one of the key requirement to pastor a Pentecostal church”

Perhaps that is what people are saying about the Pentecostal Church–I don’t know–but speaking of in tongue is a gift from God, and not every one will have that gift–read 1st. Corinthians 12, 13, and 14 to know what the apostle Paul teaches about spiritual gifts.

You will also discover that Paul tells us all of those spiritual gift will be done away with, but only three will remain right into Eternity–those three are Faith, Hope and Love; but Love is the greatest gift of all. Why? Because Love is the gift of Life, we receive that gift by faith and the Power of Holy Spirit–without the Holy Spirit man remains a natural man with a carnal mind condition.

      • February 11, 2015

        I speak in tongues 2 February 11, 2015

The indwelling of Holy Spirit is evidence that one is “born again” but that does not mean that the every one who is born again will speak in tongues. I am a born again Christian, but I do not speak in tongues, for it is not my gift from God, mine is “Evangelism”–to speak the Gospel, of Jesus Christ–the message of Life in the Bible– which I do all the time

Paul tells us at 1st. Corinthians 14–pertaining to the gift of tongues and that of prophesy; Paul has told us that tongues are useless to us who believe in Jesus Christ–here it is below:

“I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; yet in the church I would rather speak 5 words with my understanding, to teach others, than 10 thousand words in a tongue—– 22 Therefore tongues are not for those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe.–Read all about tongues at 1st. Corinthians 14

This whole process just sounds so corporate or even political. Is being a pastor or Minister really a business position, job, or should it be a ministry? I wonder where in scripture the ancient apostles were ever appointed in that manner. Clearly shows that the church is just a business, one man is employed and gets a salary to feed his family and the others are blind slaves told to wait on God for their payment.

DNO did you say that Pastor Casmus John is from St. Vincent? Is Ralph Gonsalves still the Pm of St. Vincent? Is Gonsalves still a friend of Skerrit? Based on the political culture of Dominica and the Caribbean these days, I would not be surprised to hear that Pas. John is a stunned Gonsalvite and was hand picked by the same person that buried the late bishop. I can see Skerrit handwritting all over this one.
Dominica was fooled by Gonsalves when he convinced us we did not need an international airport, only to blind fold us and got Tiwan to build it in STV instead. Now they taking bread from our qualified pastors and give it to one in St Vincent again?
It’s nothing but politics! It is just RED politics in our face! Skerro knows Dominicans are very religious so he wants to make sure that the Bishop of the Catholic Church is on his side and Bishop of Pentecostal of Roseau Pentecostal Church on his side too.

      Your comments are inappropriate.

First, you do not know Pastor John.

Second, you are not familiar with our church laws and the procedure that is followed in selecting and bringing in a new pastor.

Third, are you a member of People’s Pentecostal Family Church? Unless you are a Christian and a supporting member of he church why and how a new pastor is selected should be of no concern to you.

I have been a candidate to become the new pastor of a church a number of times. I know the joy and excitement of being voted in! :-P I also know the disappointment and hurt of losing the vote and feeling rejected. (It is a feeling we grow out of.) Those of us in the ministry learn to accept the results as God’s will for us and move on. Sometimes we find the Lord had something better for us. 8-O It all goes with the territory!

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Romans 10: 11–15

    Pastor Casmus John

    • February 10, 2015

This one above got away from me, so here is what I want to say pertaining the Scripture of Romans 10: 11-14

Pastor Casmus John. as a person who is well versed in the Message of Life, from God Almighty through Jesus Christ, I understand clearly that God has His chosen servants in this world, and so He controls or chooses the place where He wants us to do His service.

The apostle Paul, in the Scripture above, is saying that “Israel” needs the Gospel; but today I know that my fellow Dominicans are a people who need the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Claiming to believe in Jesus Christ and simply dressing up to attend church on the given day is not enough!

I was baptized as an adult, in the Pentecostal Church, and so I am aware that you focus on the Power of Holy Spirit as our all in all, for the sake of our Salvation, by faith

For that reason I hope that “you were called and has been sent” to preach the Gospel to fellow Dominicans–we really need the Gospel there.

      • February 16, 2015

        Thank you Liz.

Not everybody gets their understanding of the work of God from the Scriptures.

Most of the DNO commentators are only looking at the ministry through secular eyes.

Being a pastor or evangelist is not like a worldly career or profession. It is not a job one finds offered in the want adds of a newspaper and simply applies for. Yes, these positions are usually posted. But that is only one side and the less significant side of the matter. At the very heart and core of ministry is the reality of hearing the voice of God and discerning the will of God.

It is all about the man (of woman) of God being in the right place at the right time by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Normally I would not even try to explain this to unbelievers or outsiders. But I will reply to those who would degrade the ministry to the status of a secular profession.

        Read Hebrews 5:4!

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

Can Bishop Bishop St Louis clear the air on the following questions:
1.Bishop, since when the bishop of pawi is NOT the pastor of the people’s church, the main church?
    2. Is the so called bishop the real bishop or the real Bishop resides somewhere in Maryland?
    3. Is it true that Skerrit bestowed doctorate on the real bishop?
4.Is it true that the real internet bishop faked illness, had churches to receive offering for health in the US where he now pastors?
    5. Can the so called bishop tell the nation if he was elected deputy bishop while Bishop Daniel was seriously sick? If not he, then who was?
    6. Can the so called Bishop tell us why the one that was elected as deputy bishop shortly before the passing of Bishop Daniel was rejected as Bishop after the passing of Bishop Bill Daniel?

It’s a shame that the Pentecostal church has gotton so low and so political. No wonder a politician says when he resigns from politics he will become a pastor.

Interesting. I love those questions but I doubt you will get any answers. Too much politics. I am very much intrigued by the question asking why isnt the present Bishop not the pastor of the church. something is wrong here.

      • December 20, 2016

You are asking questions that do not involve you. The administration of the church are “in house” matters. These things are cared for and dealt with within the church family and do not involve outsiders
until the appropriate time comes to announce them.

A secular corporation is governed by a board of directors. Business is discussed and decisions are made in the board room. Plans are kept private until the time comes to reveal them. Not everything is posted for the world to know.

If you are a married man with a family you know you and your wife are privy to information regarding yourselves and the family that is confidential. These are family matters. They are not things you would tell your neighbors.

So it is within a church. Certain matters are kept within the membership. For outsiders to even ask is considered ignorant and rude.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.

    • February 12, 2015

Does it make you feel better to ask these questions?

If you received an answer to each question would it draw you closer to the Lord?

What part of your spiritual warfare is this information?

Would knowing all these things make you a soul winner?

If you knew all these things would you be better able to serve the church and build up the people of God?

It has been my observation that people who get themselves wrapped up in religious politics instead of the actual life of the Spirit know little about the work of God and are the least productive. They are usually not fruit bearing Christians and often not Christians. I hope you will review your priorities!

God does not want the leftovers of his life.

There is no comparison between a pastor and a politician. We need both. Unless we want to live in the jungle we should be willing to accept politicians. But a true Biblical pastor is a shepherd of God’s people.

A pastorate is not a “job” one just applies for. These are people who usually have given the best years of their lives to study and train for the ministry. Like it or not a God ordained pastor is a consecrated person.
He or she represents Christ. A pastor is Christ’s ambassador and heaven’s envoy.

God is no respecter of persons. But He is a respecter of positions. The pastor locally stands representing
Christ. In the Revelation chapters 1-3 the pastors are called “the angels of the churches” which means the “messengers” who bring God’s message.

You should be very careful how you speak about a pastor.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

Whoever you are referring to is not the so called Bishop. Either he is the Bishop or he is not.

The same applies to all our pastor and other workers. We did not make ourselves ministers. God called us. We were ordained according to the rites and ceremonies of our church and the laws of the nation.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

      (1) Your questions are silly and inappropriate.

      (2) They are misleading because the things they imply are not done that way.

      (3) Anybody who knows the church constitution would know you have no knowledge of the church
therefore no reason to question the business affairs of the church.

      (4) Are you a member of this church?

      (5) Are you a financial supporter of this church?

      (6) If so you would not have to ask these questions. If not you should not ask. These are matters that are dealt with internally by the church family.

      (7) Would you feel good about answering personal questions about your family and the affairs of your household? If you owned or managed a business would you not understand that there are certain things that should be kept confidential within the company? A company has a secretary who knows it is the responsibility of the [secret]ary to protect company secrets.

The Pentecostal Assemblies (to which I belong) would rather not run one pastor against another. They want to introduce one pastor at a time to the church and let the members decide on the man.

First the man finds the locality agreeable. He likes the people. After prayer he gets a feeling that he could do a work for the Lord in that area. He discusses the matter with his District Superintendent. If his D.S. approves he gives the church his application.

Outsiders are often surprised how seriously this is taken. I know a pastor who prayed and fasted for three days before accepting a call to a large city church. It is not unknown for a pastor to go to a smaller church for less money. If you asked the pastor why he was making the move he would tell you God was calling him to go there. Such pastors almost always experience tremendous success in their new work. This has been my own observation over many years.

It is not a matter of taking the place of the last pastor.

That was then. This is now. The new pastor coming in is going to fill a different place in the plan and purposes of God.

It is more complex than just choosing somebody to take the place of Pastor Daniel or finding somebody from Dominica. The chosen vessel for Peoples Pentecostal Family Church now is somebody God has been preparing for a long time! Those who know the ways of God realize it is not unusual for God to choose somebody from a different country and send them a long distance to a new assignment. You will find examples of this in the New Testament during the first century A.D.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist. http://www.livinghopeministries.ca

    • November 3, 2016

Why would the new pastor have to be a man living in Dominica, in other words why would he have to be a Dominican?

Would you be so foolish to say God could not choose a man from another country? Would you tie God’s
hands? The New Testament tells us Christ at the Father’s right hand in heaven is the head of the church and He administers on earth by the Holy Spirit.

Unless you a Christian, and a member of the church, one who is a committed financial supporter, it should be no concern of yours how they choose an incoming pastor. I cannot understand outsiders asking the questions I have found here on DNO.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill.
