Prime minister, Roosevelt Skerrit, has received the Knight Grand Cross of Merit of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George.
The ceremony took place on Wednesday morning.
The honor was bestowed on the prime minister by the grand master of the organization, Prince Charles of Bourbon Two Sicilies, Duke of Castro.
During the ceremony Skerrit was sashed and handed the cross by Prince Charles.
The citation reads, “On the occasion of the official visit of the grand master and cardinal grand prior of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George to the Commonwealth of Dominica and in recognition of the nation’s contribution to enriching its Christian identity through charitable and humanitarian endeavor and to inter-religious harmony, the rank and dignity of Knight Grand Cross of Merit of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George is hereby granted to the honorable Roosevelt Skerrit by the virtue of the office held within the institutions of of the Commonwealth of Dominica,”
A delegation from the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of Saint George is presently in Dominica on an official visit.
Meanwhile the prime minister told the visiting delegation that the church has a role to play in nation building.
“The Catholic Church is an important institution in our country,” he said. “While some have been espousing the doctrine of the separation of state and church, I believe the church has an important role to play in nation building.”

Ok. I give up. My dad was a lay minister in the church an honest and hard working man who was appauled by the idea of abled body people on welfare. He dedicated 40 years of his life to teaching before he passed. He has never asked for attention. Looking back I have great respect. My mom has dedicated her life over 20 years as a chatichist and a devout Catholic. She has never asked for attention.
