Pointe Michel celebrates its first centenarian

“Da Catherine” even weeds her garden

The St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Pointe Michel was filled to capacity as residents of the community all joined to celebrate Catherine Peltier’s 100th birthday on March 28th.

Peltier is now the oldest person in Pointe Michel and the first centenarian from the community.

Among those in attendance at the special celebration were President of Dominica, His Excellency Charles Savarin and his wife, parliamentary representative, Ian Pinard and Minister of Social Affairs Catherine Daniel.

“Da Catherine,” as she is affectionately known by all, is the mother of one child, Bertha Peltier, a well-known seamstress in the community.

She is very alert with no major illnesses and does her daily home chores and even weeds her garden.

She was showered with many gifts and a plaque from the Catholic Church community.

Parish priest, Fr. Peter, was the main celebrant of the mass.

Congratulations to Da Catherine and all the very best to her. But she is not the first centenarian from La Pwent.

Maybe DNO is not old enough to remember the great Celebration Mass that was held at that same Pointe Michel church on 14th December 1975 when JB Charles, father of Dame Eugenia Charles, celebrated his hundredth birthday. He lived on for seven more years, dying aged 107 in 1983. He was also from Pointe Michel.

As the article states Da Catherine was showered with many gifts and a plaque from the Catholic Church Community
Regretably the only icing missing on her cake at the celebration would have been a gesture of a GIFT from Carib Sand & Stone who is a part owner of the land the company is mining and who has received no royalties from the the company at this time
I sincerely hope and wish that the company can step up and show good faith and do what is RIGHT before this centenarian leaves us

I must say that this matriarch looks nothing older than in her eighties. We the younger generation must take a leaf from her book and apply it to our lives. Eating from the earth and living a stress-free life truly prolong our years on the earth. We must also try to be at peace with ourselves and with each other.
    Happy birthday, “Da Catherine!”

    PEACE

Happy birthday and congratulations Ms. Catherine Peltier.

Pictures can be deceiving but honestly you do not look your age!

I suspect the atmosphere of the island is conductive to a long life. But the right lifestyle also helps. It pays to make healthy decisions. Having God in your corner certainly helps.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

There is much we can learn from such a lady.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. International Evangelist.

I notice with all centenarians they put God first, have no tattoos, don’t abuse their bodies with alcohol and drugs, etc. A lesseon to young people. God Bless you Catherine.

Stop being negative. The person was just adding to the list of Dominicans who have reached 100 years.

      Concerned Citizen..

Thanks for the information regarding Susanna Williams of San Sauveur.

The Dominica Council On Ageing is documenting information on Dominican Centenarians both at home and abroad. My advice is that you send information addressed to the President, Dominica Council on Ageing Inc., 5 Goodwill Road, P.O. Box 452, Roseau or email to dcoainc@gmail.com.

Please send a copy of her Birth Certificate, photograph, some information concerning her life and lifestyle, family, favourite things, food, etc. If there are any family members in Dominica, please ask them to contact the Council’s office @ (767) 448 3050 for further information.

We extend our heartiest CONGRATULATIONS to “Ma Harris” and pray that the good Lord continues to shower his blessings on all those who are entrusted with her care. We strongly urge that you ensure that she enjoys her golden years with the respect and dignity that Centenarians truly deserve.
      God Bless You

To God be the glory, great things He has done. According to her the secret to long life is putting God first and having a gentle spirit. Stress kills. I want to be like Da Catherine and live to be 100 years and more.
