Pope loses cool with over-enthusiastic parishioner in Mexico

The Pope being pushed off balance by a parishioner

Pope Francis, who is usually calm and accommodating with his admirers, lost his temper with a person who pulled on him so hard that he fell onto a child in a wheelchair.

Video footage showed that while the pope was walking at the edge of a crowd in a stadium in Morelia, north-west of Mexico City, he stopped to greet children, including the young girl with a disability.

Two arms reached out to grab him and the person would not let go, even after the pope lost his balance and his chest was pressing on the girl’s head.

Aides and security men stopped the pope from falling.

It appears this is not the first time I have read something as this on a previous visit. Would this be a duplicate and copycat?

The security should have been surrounding the Pope and swift to prevent the person (people) from touching him or pulling at him.
As we all should know, the Pope travels with his entourage and also EWTN reporters, journalists, etc.
If, according to the picture this incident occurred in Mexico, I will hear and read about it on US Catholic TV and Radio – Eternal Word Television Network – EWTN.
The Catholic News will not make a fuss about it or criticize it for they expect it from faithful Catholic followers. Some people get carried away and by their mortal and spiritual emotions. No one should as much as try to deny them this once in a lifetime mortal and spiritual opportunity.

      Only fools follow religion.

      • February 21, 2016

On the back of my car I have a sticker that says

I’M NOT RELIGIOUS. I JUST LOVE THE LORD.

Once in Toronto I was driving home about midnight. I came to a place on a bridge where police cars were parked, and a crowd had gathered. I got out and walked to he nearest police officer. When I asked him what the problem was he pointed to a man who was dangling from the bridge, holding on by his fingers, threatening to let go and plunge down onto a multi-lane highway below. “He wants to commit suicide” the officer said.

I asked the policeman to tell the man I was a minister and would like to talk with him. A few minutes later the officer came back and told me “He says he is an atheist. He doesn’t want to talk to you.”

I wish I could tell you how it ended. But eventually I had to move on.

The Bible says “The fool has said in his heart there is no God.” I don’t know much about religion. But knowing God and experiencing Christ adds something to life.

        Sincerely, Rev…

DNO the Pope has made some extremely enlightening statements. I read them on EWTN. Late last year The Loop, Sympatico.ca had an extremely long list of his godly words in brief. They are excellent ones. I tried saving them but I could not keep up. I saved as many as five pages. They were too many. Sometime, if I can find that section, I will save the rest.

DNO, you post what is negative which will cause some of your readers to comment negatively. How about posting some of the Pope’s godly words of advice?
Given the criminal elements in D/ca, God knows there are especially some D/cans who are in dire need of knowing, especially those who are non-Catholics.
They are godly words, some of which are how to love God, others, to live a happy life, live in harmony and peace with others and to obtain eternal salvation.
There is more to Catholicism than meets the eye.

  5. Rev. Donald Hill I was thinking the same thing about the Pope being so close to the crowd; then I said maybe that is how he wanted it –so to shakes hands with the people; but somehow this encounter could been avoided.

The unfortunate thing though, is that those people don’t know that shaking hands with the Pope or touching him does nothing for the Spirit–but God is Spirit and He our interaction with Him by faith.

Many of them might be doing so, for some form of physical healing–but he is just a man, not God;; it is faith in God which heals people–both physical and most of all, “spiritually”–it is just too bad that the Roman Catholic will not do away with her DOCTRIES OF MAN so to free the congregation from their conformation of RELIGION.

    • The Church is people, joined as one to be the Body of Christ Jesus and He is the Head–all of this can only happen through faith and the Holy Spirit who bonds us it Love–“One Lord, One Faith, and One Baptism” Ephesians 4: 5

Jesus said the Samaritan lady at the well: ” But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and Truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and Truth”

I will never understand why the Roman Catholic Church will not apply those Spiritual Principles, which are in bible; they are definitely not doing so–the Pope is just a man–why won’t he deny the worship that the people are giving to him?

Haha all you people funny. The pope is a man jus like the so called Christ. The only difference is I know for sure the pope is alive. There is no evidence to prove Christ ever lived. Be as angry as you want you can’t prove me wrong.

He is risen from the dead, and HE is Lord :!:

He claimed to be the one and only way to heaven. Please read John 14:6 :!:

I will give you the names of lawyers in modern times who have researched the resurrection of Christ. Some of them were NOT Christians when they began their research :!: In conclusion they said the evidence for the literal resurrection of Jesus Christ would stand up today in a modern court of law :!:

As it is stated, if you cannot see, feel and touch something, you deny it is true.
St. Paul said, for now we are walking by faith; not by sight. One day we will be walking by sight. This will occur when we die. If we are saved, we will be walking by sight.
Do your best not to miss the boat of salvation.
You must pray to God for what you cannot comprehend and deny. He will reveal it to you.

A push, shove or pulling at people is cause to shock them. It is normal that he reacted in this manner. He did not expect it. The person must have been very rough. A sensible, faithful Catholic would not do that. Under no circumstance should anyone pull at another.
I know if it occurred to me, I would be shocked and later get angry. I would warn the person, in no uncertain way, never to do it again. Of course, this would be the reaction of the laity, not the Pope.
The security will have to be doubly careful next time to keep their eyes not only on the Pope but on the gathering nearby. I do think the security was a bit lax. For a place as Mexico, they should never have allowed this to happen. This is why they are security, to protect the Pope, just as a President or a Queen.

The Pope is the Head of the Catholic Church.
What do you say when the Queen, the US President and other dignitaries visit countries when people swoon over them?

  9. February 17, 2016

The video shows the Pope was obviously offended. I suspect he was more concerned about the well being of the girl than himself. She could have been knocked out of the wheelchair and injured.

My own thought is that nobody should have been allowed that close to the Pope given that it was a dangerous locality he was in. The security detail could have done a better job.

This person who pushed or pulled the Pope sadly is an example of the frenzy created by the unscriptural veneration devoted Catholics have for the Pontiff. They will reach out and touch him as they might Christ Himself because they believe he is the Vicar of Christ, and there is no Biblical basis for this. Nor is he the successor of Peter. The New Testament does not even hint at such a thing. The most Peter claimed for himself was that he was “…an apostle…” (1 Peter 1:1) and “…also an elder…” (1 Peter 5:1)

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

I’ve seen quite a bit of unscriptural veneration devoted non-catholics have for their pastors. I don’t can’t spot anywhere in the bible which sanctions such behavior either.

Do you not have devotion in that sense of the word for your parents, a husband (wife), a child or a friend and also for those who are kind to you?
I expect you Catholic-haters to make this type of statement. One day you will find out how wrong you are.

Some people do not think twice and beyond to determine what could have occurred in this situation.
The woman may not have had her faculties. Know that many who are also mentally ill and with other illnesses are brought to those gatherings. This is why she may have pulled at him.
The Pope, being the Head of the Catholic Church is the Vicar of Our Lord Jesus Christ, a mandate given to him, the Catholic Church by Our Lord Himself. The Pope represents Our Lord Jesus Christ.
No other religion has that mandate, importance and recognition. I am aware that non-Catholics get jealous about that which is why they make such adverse comments.
Everyone in the entire world knows the Pope is the Head of the Catholic Church. Wherever he visits, there will always be a vast following, mostly by the billions of Catholics worldwide. There will be some Catholics of all who will want to be near him and to touch him. This depicts when Our Lord preached and some pulled his robe.

      • February 21, 2016

Veneration of pastors? I don’t think so.

        Respect for the person.

        Appreciation for his work.

        Support for his ministry.

All theses things are sound Biblical responses toward a shepherd of God’s people. But anything that places a pastor so far above any other devoted follower of Christ should be avoided. Even the apostles avoided and discouraged such devotion to themselves.

Why is it when a Catholic DNO commentator writes a reply to somebody like myself you also say something like “Someday you will find out how wrong you are” but you never answer us with the Word of God? You offer us no scriptural rebuttal. You give us no verse of scripture to
prove your point. Sadly, the Bible is a closed book to you.

Yet it says “To the word and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20)

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

They do not see as much, the earthly spirituality of it. It has absolutely nothing to do with scriptural.
The Pope is the Head of the Catholic Church.
Does your church not have a head, one who is either the owner or in charge?
You protestants are jealous of the Pope and the Catholic Church. You have not yet got it into your heads and grasped it that Our Lord Jesus Christ established “ONE CHURCH” on earth; not several different denominations.
A few days ago I thought of that and the thought crossed my mind, “Our Almighty Father did not send His Blessed Son to establish those various churches”, each with their own head which have caused divisions and disunity.
When you die it will be revealed to you, if not before. Only then will you comprehend. I hope it will not be too late for you, to your eternal detriment.
God hears, knows and sees all things. He knows all hearts, what is embedded in them.
Your adverse words cannot change a thing that God has ordained.

This is why some of you left the Catholic Church without knowing the fullest of It and that It Alone has The full Deposit of Faith as given to It by God the Father, God The Son and God the Holy Spirit. You will find out one day.
You can never be intelligent or more intelligent than the Catholic Church and its members. They know what they have and are smart enough to be Catholics.
