Well-known personality in Scotts Head, Aurelius Vincent Elie, popularly known as ‘Big A,’ passed away on Friday, June 17th at the Princess Margaret Hospital.
Big A had a disability since when he was a young boy but did not let that stop him. He was a very educated person, who was very active in the development of his community.
Big A was a teacher at the Scott’s Head Government School and served two terms as an elected member of the Scotts Head, Soufriere, Gallion Village Council.
During his term on the Council, he contributed significantly towards the achievement of several critical projects including streets and drains. He was also a member of several community groups and organizations in the Community including the ever popular Shaka’s Boys.
Big A was also the founder of ‘BIG A Sounds’ which was well known as the super sounds of Dominica.
He has made several donations to most groups in his Community, particularly when there were projects for self-help and community clean up.
This year’s Fathers Day weekend was definitely a very sad one for Scotts Head, since Big A always planned and found sponsorship for a Fathers’ VS non-Fathers’ Domino Competition.
Big A will definitely be missed by everyone.
He left to mourn members of his family including, Tahli Elie, Auston Elie, Valerie Elie, Carol Elie, Elmena Elie, Sherin, Jamel, Ranel, Edaina, Jaden, Kymani, Marianne, Maydine JR, Jeff JR, Jacques Bellot and the entire people of Scott’s Head. May his soul rest in peace.
Big A was a great man, whenever I arrived in Scotts Head the first person who phoned me was Marcus.
Rest in peace brother

Arie Gone
I sincerely hope many of the up and coming youth who has had the experience of dealing with Arie will use his attitude to inspire them when things get rough .
It was a struggle to get to and from Academy from the Bus stop at the old market but he did it ,a struggle when we played soft ball cricket , but pitch the ball anywhere near his likkle leg , and six for you , he couldn’t run so developed into a boundary hitter, I had the pleasure of swimming with him and the sight of the likkle leg under the water was like a rudder , a very strong swimmer he was ; he had the potential of becoming a very good teacher and an example to those who needed inspiration, but alas he was handicapped in climbing that hill to and from the school, the inconvenience took its toll .
The past we often reminisced on my visits and was a pleasure to still share bellies of laughter together .
Arie will be missed .

It is difficult when someone as he passes on. He has done much even with a disability which did not hinder him from doing whatever he possibly could. The youths especially should take note and do their utmost to emulate his good, energetic and enthusiastic works, be it in a different manner. There is no doubt he made many friends aside from the Soufriere people. All of you have reason to mourn his loss.
To his family, my condolence goes out to you. Take heart. Your consolation is how much he did and accomplished during his life. He wasted no time doing what he loved and for the sake and love of others. God be with you in your time of sorrow.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and other souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen!
