Woodford Hill fisherman missing at sea

lost at seaPolice are investigating a matter in which a fisherman from Woodford Hill has been missing since December 26, 2013.

A release from Police PRO, Inspector John Carbon  states that 31 year-old John Lenny Sylvester and Jules James, both of Woodford Hill, went fishing on Boxing Day in an open keel boat in the Atlantic Ocean.

Carbon says James returned with the boat but without Lenny.

According to the police release, “reports reaching the police indicated that about 4:30pm on that day, Jules who was the boat’s captain, was making his way to the shore when he encountered some difficulty with the boat’s engine when Lenny fell overboard. Lenny could not swim, he submerged and disappeared. Jules then returned to the shore and reported the matter to the police.”

Carbon states that The Coast Guard has since conducted searches in the area but has not found Lenny’s body.

He says the matter is under investigation.

Why is everyone so quick to jump and say story fishy,
These guys were friends. The guy is devasted he has not
Been ok since the inccident. All you people so quick
To find something wrong with his story, do you know what happened.
The engine did not fail, it was the steering that broke, the man was trying to steady the boat when Lenny fell, all you just running allu mouth.
Both families are hurting. Stop this mindless nonsense,
There is no big story, it was an unfortunate accident.

We The Authorities are investigating to possibility of not only foul-play, but also the remote possibility that Mr. John Lenny Sylvester may have boarded another vessel or was dropped off on another near-by island.

This appears to be a strange and fictitious story. I doubt his story. It sounds too shallow and dry.
There must be more to this. Would it be that they had an argument and this is what occurred to Lenny, he fell overboard? Unless he was sitting or standing too close to the edge of the boat. Nevertheless, the police should conduct a thorough investigation.
In order to get to the root of this matter, everyone who knew Lenny and was closely affiliated with him should be questioned including James, his family and friends. James should be given a lie-detector test.
The police should also conduct a wiretap of his telephone. If the police want to apprehend criminals, this is what they should do.

J&T: difficult as it is for you to believe the man’s story, it could happen the way he stated. There is no mystery to his story, people do fall overboard, and submerged never to be seen again.

You need to remember in the Atlantic, ocean, and within the waters around Dominica there are lots of under water current which cannot be seen: even when very strong swimmers get caught in such current, it is a struggle to free themselves from the current.

If this guy could not swim he would never be able to escape his fate.

The fact the man said the missing submerged; and never surfaced, or seen again is consistence with the theory I explained; the only thing which can be used to refute his first statement is if the police found out the missing man was able to swim, then he would be caught in a lie.

On the other hand if his body is recovered anytime soon they could look for some form of trauma; however. that still would not prove foul play because such trauma could be obtained from objects floating in the sea, poundings from rocks in the sea also.

Even if they let him take an lie detector test, that would be a waste of time; would not prove he murdered his mate, because lie detector test are very unreliable. Guilty persons have taken such test and past it, whereas a nervures person taking the same test fails.

For this reason in the United States, lie detector test results, good or bad, true or false are not admissible in any court, or institution of litigation, for the simple reason the test can be manipulated, by both the person conducting the test or the person taking the test.

Here is what happened to me one time in Antigua, my children and I along with mother wan on a beach, I took my two months old baby daughter in the water knee deep, a huge wave came and swipe her out of my arm, in shuck I looked for the kid, and could not find her; God ordained it that another wave brought her back, and bumped her on my right foot, three times before I could grab her from the water, by this time about five minuets had elapse, only God knows why my kid did not drown.

You know what that kid has grown to be a woman, the last time I saw her was at another daughters wedding moons ago, she is angry with me, for reasons only she knows, if I see her today I doubt I will recognize her, if you happen to cross path with her,her name is Ushi Sukari-Shanti Telemaque, they say she operate a business in Las Vegas say hello to her for me oui!

      Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!

how can a boat engine gave difficulty and throw a person over board.hope that boat in police custody.any engine giving trouble is design to cut out,not leap to the sky.its not even a plane. they could go adrift or use recommended paddles,a requirement by law.

This is so sad, Lenny, loved the sea, always fishing, had a good few meals from his catch (He was a hard working young man who would not sit and wait on nothing, so although he was not the best swimmer when the job was not around in construction or else he would do what it takes and go fishing, go on farm for a few months and come back) We will miss you.

  26. BEACHPILOT437
    December 31, 2013

We cannot just sit here and jump to conclusions , regulations need to be in place and more stringent inspections need to be done on these fishing boats, I personally think that enough safety measures are not practiced or enforced .my prayers are with the missing and he boat captain , it is hard to explain.

Did any of these men have a life-vest whilst fishing out at sea? Was the boat or engine on which they went out to sea inspected by a qualified state inspector? Was the conveyance sea worthy or suitable for the rough waters of the Atlantic? Were they carrying on board other devices that could aid in recovery at sea- a high pitch whistle. mirror rope etc. Are there laws on the books pertaining to these frequent incidences that are simply being ignored by our local seamen or not enforced by the police? Human life should be regarded more highly. Please do something!

OK … I’m going to attempt to answer your questions.

Did any of these men have a life-vest whilst fishing out at sea? But AA, since when you seeing DA fishermen wearing life vest? What happen you in America too long or what? Man bearly have bait is vest they have? Where they getting it? You see a store in Roseau?

Was the boat or engine on which they went out to sea inspected by a qualified state inspector? Police not inspecting man ride is a state inspector to check boat you looking for? Do we have even one of those? Do tell – because my uncle for fish.

Was the conveyance sea worthy or suitable for the rough waters of the Atlantic? Were they carrying on board other devices that could aid in recovery at sea- a high pitch whistle. mirror rope etc.? Ummm … is this something the “state inspector” would have to approve? If so, where he is … I don’t know.

Are there laws on the books pertaining to these frequent incidences that are simply being ignored by our local seamen or not enforced by the police? But I find you come out.

Human life should be regarded more highly. Please do something! Ok – I agree completely. Still, people should stop doing stupid things. You obviously in America typing from your PC about DA fishing laws, so you know about the concept of personal responsiblity.
