Hummingbird Air is introducing direct flights to the BVI every Monday and Friday starting June 1, 2015. The timing of this service is designed to coincide with the busy summer travel season.
Hummingbird Air expects to serve both tourists and Dominican nationals with its new connections. Company President, Sam Raphael noted that the request for this initiative came from the BVI German representative who wanted to introduce a multi island vacation package that combined Dominica and the BVI. European tourists, who tend to vacation for longer periods have started a trend of combining different islands to create interesting vacation experiences. Raphael believes that easy connections to other islands will help position Dominica as a key destination in the fast emerging multi island vacation market. Dominica is a desired destination because it offers a unique ecotourism experience. Mr. Raphael also indicated that Dominica residents and the large Dominican community in the BVI have been asking for a direct, convenient way to travel and ship goods and fresh Dominican produce between these points. Hummingbird Air transports passengers and cargo on all their flights. The frequency of flights to the BVI is expected to increase and plans are underway to introduce flights to other Caribbean Islands very soon.
Hummingbird Air has been providing direct passenger/cargo flights between the US Virgin Islands and Canefield, Dominica since July of 2014. The company currently operates a fleet of three (3) Beech 99 Aircraft. Hummingbird Air can be reached at its Canefield Airport office (767) 449-2102/275-2368 or online at www.hum-air.com. Hummingbird Air is represented in the BVI by Platinum Services. Cell (284) 346-1298 Office (284) 495 -1298.
great news!!!!!!!!!!!
That is good news o hear and we Dominicans should not be scared to travel on those air crafts we have been asking for alternatives to LIAT, let us patronize all positive investment coming to the country, it will only mean a few more jobs to the locals and money in people’s pockets no matter how little.
I wish humming bird much success and God’s guidance.God Bless you guys and GOD BLESS DOMINICA TOO.
Congratulations Sam on the new route for your small, growing airline!
What we need now in Dominica is a tourism helicopter sightseeing business, based at Canefield Airport, using the WORLD’S quietest jet helicopter – the MD 600N.
The helicopter could also be used for sea/land search and rescue and emergency medical transfer to other islands in the region.
What we really need now alternative alternative connections with the major hubs connecting with long-haul international airlines such as St. Maarten, Barbados, St. Lucia and even Trinidad and Tobago from Canefield. The shielding of LIAT is holding back the development of our tourism market and our potential to attract more direct foreign investment. The Govt. should not be afraid to promote an operation like Hummingbird alongside LIAT. That would be healthy and I believe that there is room for both.
good show Sam. Hope that new venture wii be successful and gettting to DA will not be a niight mare
A Dominican success story by private enterprise. Govt. owned LIAT is a basket case and a private airline thrives. Why???
Go Humming Bird go!
Outstanding. Next, direct flights between St. Maarten and Canefield please. I’m particularly pissed off with LIAT’s service.
