Hundreds flee chaos in storm-ravaged Bahamas

Dorian left a path of destruction in its wake

Hundreds of Hurricane Dorian survivors have fled the Bahamas as thousands more anxiously await evacuation from the devastated islands.

The hurricane tore through the islands earlier this week, leaving a trail of destruction and a humanitarian crisis in its wake.

According to the BBC, the official death toll rose to 43 on Friday, but is expected to increase further, officials told local media.

With aid efforts under way, many survivors are scrambling to evacuate.

On Friday, crowds desperate to leave amassed in their thousands at ports in Great Abaco and Grand Bahama, two of the worst-hit islands.

Frustrations mounted as survivors, carrying what few possessions they had left, complained of “chaotic” and slow evacuations, the BBC report added.

Donald Trump is firing up his base once again, this time on the backs of potential asylum seekers from the hurricane ravaged Bahamas.

Though it is the sovereign right of any country, including the US, to admit any immigrant, refuge or asylum seeker it chooses to, Trump claiming there are a lot of gang members in the Bahamas is a despicable, pre-emptive attack and excuse aimed at denying entry to the South Floridian neighbors in a time of crisis.

I am very eager to ask Mr. Trump if the US itself does not have a gang problem. I guess the the Bloods, Crips and other US gangs are just non-profit organizations while the multiple existing organized crime entities can be classified as law abiding charitable organizations.

This is sad! Very poor leadership skills! The people should have been evacuated within 24 hours after clearance from Officials. The US is right on their doorsteps and should have already assisted with this humanitarian crisis. I hope the cries of the people will be heard by those with the power to remove those people from this catastrophic site. Dominicans, this is just another proof, of how much of a formidable Leader we have here. PM, the Leader of Bahamas can learn from you, please help in that regard! May the Almighty ease the pain of the Bahamian people!

I hope all goes well for those who plan to leave
