Hurricane Maria: More interventions to come from regional and international funds says PM

PM Skerrit

Today marks the 2nd year anniversary since Hurricane Maria struck and caused massive devastation to Dominica.

In a statement on state-owned DBS this morning, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said post-Hurricane Maria, the country has made tremendous progress over the years.

“All things considered, we have made tremendous strides in the last two years where we believe in large measure the lives of citizens are in a better place now,” he said

“We have seen the improvements to the physical infrastructure. We have seen in an increase in economic activities, we are seeing hotels reopening and new hotels opening. We have seen a resurgence in agriculture, the housing situation in Dominica is better now than it was three years ago because people would have taken the opportunity to have reconstructed their homes,”

Skerrit said in the year 2020, major interventions will be made in Dominica from funds provided by international and regional countries.

“We have had pledges from the international community, our regional friends. Those funds have not manifested themselves to the extent that they should yet because there is a procurement process involved and so we look forward to the first quarter of 2020 when you will see some of those major interventions.”

The government has built thousands of homes for its citizens and today many vulnerable families are in a better position than they were at the time of the hurricane.

    Continued,
Do you know what it’s like or have you experience to coordinate and handle this type of logistic, while you are employed and working a 9 hour shift. Do you know what it’s like to have your own family in the country that was brought to it’s knees and not knowing what has happened to them. My daughter resides in grand bay at the time and all along the way of the relief I prayed to receive news about her, but I continued to work hard and stay focus so people like you would be able to know that there are people out there who care. If only you knew the pain and agony, the mental strain, psychological pressure one goes though to make Dominicans have a sense of hope. I guess that’s a miracle. Do I deserve a night hood? Do I deserve anything? This is for Dominicans to decide.

    Man bite Dogs,
When I see these types of comments from people like you it makes me wonder. You are praising the PM and his administration for miracles done. What about me as an individual that resides in a small country named Grenada. Though my relief to Dominica after hurricane Maria.
I started my relief efforts the day after the hurricane devastated Dominica. On the 4th day I dispatched a vessel with supplies, 5 days after the first vessel I dispatched another vessel, this time with more than 150 tons of supplies from Grenada. Also with over 15 passengers who flew in to Grenada to get to Dominica. I coordinated for the vessel to go to St. Lucia, St. Vincent and Antigua to transport supplies. By the third week dispatch another vessel to Dominica with more relief supplies. On the fourth week the second vessel returned to Grenada to make a final voyage back to Dominica. Should i consider this a miracle- continiured

    Mr. Skerrit
with all your utterances, you are the present Prime Minister and therefore take the decision on what the priorities are for spending Dominica’s resources. I think you, as Prime Minister be held fully responsible , God forbid , there is a sea swell in the Scott’s Head area resulting in loss of life and major damage to residents homes .I vow never to let your mind rest in peace if this happens. I will be on your case till I draw my last breath.

I wonder what happened to most of the ‘interventions’ after the hurricane? All of it gone with the wind into special accounts.

It’s Time Skerrit go rest either at his home or at a state facility. What else is new?

We’re all tired of “things to come”. Dominica is not a Kingdom, time for change, that is what Democracy is about.

These guys have no idea wth, they’re doing!! So long and all you hearing is things to come..

  7. September 19, 2019

Prime Minister, Sir, I believe you completely. Things do not happen overnight, but only at the time, which God has commanded it to be.

Let us think that He Hurricane Maria to close a broken door so that He would use you, to open a new and firm window. Just be humble, be patient, and ignore the negative darts that the enemy is firing at you; for in the control of God, His people will not be moved–not until He says so.

Just think of the blessings that He bestowed to you, to do His works for our country and her people. Depend on Him and no one else, and always remember to give Him thanks.

I hope that the Anniversary Thanksgiving Concert for today will be well attended.

“Prime Minister, Sir, I believe you completely. Things do not happen overnight, but only at the time, which God has commanded it to be.”
Elizabeth, wake up and stop talking bull ship nonsense to us n this matter of state. And where this failed Skerrit is concerned , please God out of your nonsense and your corrupted Labour leader and failed government. God is not asleep and go clean up all dirty corrupted Labour government before you bring in God into your corrupt, devious, failed Labour government and its Prime (Odd) Minister. We seriously need change in Domininca. After 19 years Skerrit has failed big time, because he came as this immature little boys who lacked experience in such a position as Prime Minister. We need decent government now in Dominica and we get rid of this highly corrupted Labour government.
We therefore welcome Hon. Lennox Linton and his highly Professional UWP Team. Dominica needs change and therefor we need strong leadership in Hon Linton and UWP committed…

THOUSANDS of homes? Who was your math teacher in elementary?? Yes, there are pledges of several billion dollars from the international community. And yes it’s about time they show up somewhere. Or better not, they’ll be in better hands with the new un-red government (a little green, a teeny tiny bit of red and a lot of blue!)

More lies from this corrupt PM. We don’t want your propaganda anymore. What we want is the independently audited accounts of the CBI and PetroCaribe. This is NOT going away!

    September 18, 2019

PM I love you but I don’t like the direction you heading. PM you using God’s name in a manner to divide us as a people and that’s not right. PM and your friend I need to earn you that you are on boarder line with God and that’s not safe. PM, you did that in November 2014, with Donny McClurkin just before the election. But see what happened. In 2015, less than a year later, Erika came on us with no notice and we know what happened. Then less than three years later in 2017, Maria came. The next time we heard from our brother McClurkin, was in December of 2018, when he fell sick driving and his car was totaled and he suffered from injuries that he has not fully recovered from. Four years later, on the eve of another election you went much further by bringing down Shirley Cesar and declared a national holiday. PM you did not learn from the experiences of 2014 and the sadness that followed? PM you treading on very dangerous ground and I am afraid that your actions don’t cost us…

Anytime a person especially a national leader uses God’s name for political and selfish reasons, God will show him His strength. I hope Skerrit’s evil actions will not cause another storm our way before this month or week is over. Boy God is no mock and whatsoever a man sowes that he will respond. People of Dominica especially the God-fearing ones, please reject and boycott skerrit’s naked hypocrisy! People it’s about worshipping Skerrit’s God and don’t say I, the old prophet did not warning all you

  15. Skerrit must Go!
    September 18, 2019

And I suppose we have to vote for your party to get all these goodies, right?
Stupes. Why you lying Skerrit? Take a look at the Salisbury constituency, your party neglected because they “blue”. They are doing better than Grand Bay that voted for you. Those of you who can vote use your brain.

  16. Oh for crying out loud!

The man never gets tired, Lenox use your time wisely! On a daily basis for the past four years, you kept repeating a stale lyrics.
Skerrit Must Go. What happened to that old lyrics! You made the man more popular, especially when you reinforce Lazy Skerrit. Now that your ship is stinking, my bad sinking, you have concocted a new line to showcase your flaws and incompetence. Your devious followers just wants anything from you wheather fiction or myths
Your sour note, where de Money 💰 Gone is answerable. The scholarships that were awarded to the Marigot Constituency meant for the children who resides in Marigot, but You took both and gave them to your children, who have never resided there nor were they born in Marigot. You deprived two families of what was rightfully theirs! Now you are asking for accountability? Typical of thieves, they never want to see their comrades carry bigger bags than them! Love you 😍 % or LL.

Could not have said it any better. The progress we make today is not always how rich we are. Job well done. Keep on riding, according to Eric Donaldson. The sun lights the day and the moon lights the night, so together we strive by our will to survive and together we fight just to stay alive, according to Jimmy Cliff. Job well done.
