Bobi Wine – pop star, youth leader, political activist and Ugandan MP – arrived in the US for medical treatment following what he alleged as torture at the hands of the Ugandan Military, according to a CNN report.

Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, posted a photo via twitter and facebook where he is at an airport  seated in a wheelchair.

In a tweet the singer wrote:

“Safely arrived in the US where I’ll be receiving specialized treatment following the brutal torture at the hands of SFC soldiers. We thank the world for standing with us. I will soon tell you what exactly happened to me since 13th August and what is next.”

Wine is a leader of a youth movement that challenges the regime of the 73 year old president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni.

Wine was arrested on the charge of treason for his alleged involvement in rioting and stone throwing against the president who has reigned for over 30 years in Uganda. Following the incident, (T) thirty two (32) other opposition politicians were also charged.

Wine was stopped on Thursday from leaving his country after accusing the government of torture while in custody of the authorities. The state claimed they needed to conduct a medical exam to verify his claims of torture. An attorney for Wine alleged he was further tortured in the presence a state doctor while in custody for the second time.

@Shaka Zulu – People keep yapping about white man enslaving black man while conveniently ignoring that slavery of the black man in Africa was started by black men enslaving their own people.

Just look at places in Africa today which are rich in resources yet they have corrupt black leaders deliberately siphoning funds belonging to the state into their own personal coffers.

In the Caribbean (Dominica included), black rulers are oppressing the black citizens in all manner possible, black men shooting black men, black men and women taking advantage of each other etc.

In the US, misguided blacks stir up the emotions of other blacks & attempt to cause anarchy when a white police officer shoots a black man yet these same blacks could care less when their fellow black brethren keep killing each other in gang warfare etc. Where is that passionate outrage when blacks kill blacks? Seems Black Lives Matter only when a white person is the culprit.

I totally agree with you.. 50 plus killed one weekend in Chicago. Black on black crime. Where were the black lives matter folks? It is a recurring theme in africa a continent with the most natural and human resources on earth. Yet beggars because of leadership greed and superstitious beliefs. Caribbean no different 20 plus killed in st. Kitts for the year so far, 22 in st. Vincent, Dominica racing to break record, Jamaica and Trinidad on a level by themselves. We are our own worst enemy.
