BREAKING NEWS: UN upgrades Palestinian Authority status despite US and Israeli opposition

The Palestinian delegation before the vote

The United Nations General Assembly on Thursday endorsed an upgraded U.N. status for the Palestinian Authority, despite intense opposition from the United States and Israel.

The resolution elevates their status from “non-member observer entity” to “non-member observer state,” the same category as the Vatican, which Palestinians hope will provide new leverage in their dealings with Israel.

Its leaders had been working with dozens of supporting nations to develop a formal draft, enlisting the backing of European countries such as France and Spain.

138 delegates voted in favor of the measure, while nine voted against. There were 41 abstentions, including Germany.

How’s this and other impoverished nations like Dominica and those who can’t understand who those mythological people calling themselves Palestinians [who are actually arab invaders] working out for Dominica? You chose, free will the side of evil or Yahowah’s side [and no God is not called the LORD, although Satan is known by that name, or Jesus since there is no letter J in Hebrew or all of human language untill 500 years ago] This vote brought on the wrath, for it is written I will bless those who bless you {the audience was the children of Israel-not some lying replacement theology of a church} and curse those who curse you. Who is the storm Erica on a blood moon no less, not a sign to teshuvah? How is catering to the enemy [muslims] going to work out for Dominica. No good can come of this I guarantee it and so does God.

Good afternoon my people and yes congrats to Palestine. Now we need the European Union to tell America to step aside because they have Been an obstacle to peace and a bias mediator. This apartheid government is dependent on America to maintain its occupation.

Splendour: Rather than wonder, seek! It’s true Dominica wasn’t represented at the last UN vote in favor of Palestine (UNESCO membership), but did recognize Palestine as a state officially in September 2011. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestine_194 The Caribbean Community seems to be turning the tide following the cue of several South and Central American countries a few years ago.

Very good question. Over the years we have received direct- and indirect asistance from Israel through respectively the CIC or Caricom and OAS. The ambassador of Israel visited Dominica on 10 August last year when our President asked for Israel to fully fund courses offered by Israel. In diplomacy there is never anything for nothing and I wonder if we effected “pay back” or “diplomaticaslly” abstained this time. I can not recall Dominica ever receiving anything from the Palestinians. I do hope they will be able to establish their own state for their people, provided they do not at the same time call for the annihilation of Israel.

Interesting, that Dominica officially recognized the state of Palestine in September 2011, just a month after the Israeli ambassador visited. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_recognition_of_the_State_of_Palestine Despite Israel being the #1 recipient of US Foreign Aid, there is a slight imbalance between the material strength of Israel vs Palestine, don’t you think? Does Dominica ever ask for assistance from Mali, Afghanistan or Haiti?

In this age of superfluous information, it doesn’t take too much effort to find our for ourselves. DNO should also post this info. Dominica voted in favor of UN observer state status for Palestine, as did virtually the entire Caribbean. Haiti and Barbados abstained. more info and background on this whole process is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestine_194

To those of us who follow closely and understand, we know this move is another defamation. Just another Islamic strategy against Israel. I hope the US Condemns that move.

Empty Vessels such as you make the most noise. I hope you are not somewhere trying to educate someone else.

    • November 30, 2012

Hi, you say you follow closely and you understand. The US will continue to condem it just like the forty five vetoes they used in the Security Council. We will see what will happen when the Palestinians take this Zionist Apartheid government to the Intrenational Criminal Court. I guess you want the Palestinians to continue to be occupied by Israel. Open your eye and mind.

Did our government give the Palestians a favourable vote today? Or wre they among those who chose to support the Zionist occupation and criminal millitary blockade of the Palestinian people? As a former colony,of Britain, i expect our leaders to support this cause. Did they have the backbone to stand and be counted or was our Ambassador instructed to abstain? Remember folks all it takes for evil to flourish is for good people to bury their heads in their hands and do nothing.

Yes, Dominica voted in favor of UN observer state status for Palestine. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palestine_194 for background.
The veto power of 5 states is something that will eventually need to be relinquished if the UN is ever to achieve relevance and become the force for peacemaking for which it was intended. Oh, if the US could find the necessary courage to take that risk! But my prediction is France, being the most neutral and sane.
