CIA, MI6 agents active in Libya to aid airstrikes and meet rebels – New York Times

Barack Obama

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has deployed clandestine operatives in Libya to gather intelligence for military airstrikes and to contract rebels fighting Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s forces, the New York Times reported on Thursday.

President Obama had earlier insisted that no American military ground troops would participate in the coalition action against Gaddafi, which is approved under United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973. But American officials told the newspaper that small groups of CIA operatives have been working in Libya for “several weeks”.

U.S. officials refused to confirm or deny the report. “As is common practice for this and all Administrations, I am not going to comment on intelligence matters,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said in a statement. “We’re assessing and reviewing options for all types of assistance that we could provide to the Libyan people, and have consulted directly with the opposition and our international partners about these matters.”

In addition to the CIA presence, the New York Times reported, current and former British officials said that dozens of British special forces and MI6 intelligence officers are also working inside Libya. The British operatives have been directing airstrikes from British jets and gathering intelligence about the whereabouts of Libyan government tank columns, artillery pieces and missile installations, the officials told the newspaper.

MI6 is the UK Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), which is responsible for supplying the British government with foreign intelligence. It is different from MI5, which is responsible for protecting UK citizens against major threats to national security.

God heavenly Father I ask you to forgive those persons who are the side of a man who is killing other people because they were simply protesting for better life.Remove that political blindness, make them see, open their ears to hear in the name of Jesus my God and Father.

Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize but he is teaching us that war is peace, lies are truths, and ignorance is courage. God is for peace and not for war. Obama did not seek a peaceful solution he was all out for war. I don’t support that. If you do, then you are not a man of God.

    From the Washington Post:

But several Republicans and at least one Democrat on the panel were openly hostile to the U.S. military intervention in Libya.

“Once again the American people are being suckered into one more war,” Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) declared. Calling the intervention “illegal, unconstitutional and undeclared,” he asserted, “there so far has not been a slaughter” of civilians by Gaddafi’s forces. “I have seen no picture of any slaughter.” Paul also cited unspecified reports that “our bombs have killed more than 40 civilians” in Libya.

This is an American law maker making these statements. Is he against America, his own country? No. He is only calling a spade a spade.

Wicked pple: God does not like double standars. God love justice and equality. Have you seen the pictures of the slaughter of civilians by Gaddafi? Texas Senator Ron Paul is calling Obama’s action in Libya illegal. You need help because you are being brainwashed by negative reporting from the Western press – CNN, FOX, CBS etc. Don’t you see that America is not saying anything about the killings in Bahrain, Yemen and Saud Arabia? Lest you forget. Mandella spent 24 years in prison and the South African government killed thousands of black people and America said nothing. America is not protecting civilians in Libya. It is doing the opposite – Killing civilians. If you are an American puppet or partner in crime you can kill as many civilians you want and America will look the other way. This is double standards and God does not like that.

This is the edited post. Please ignore previous.

Early during the protests the rebels put up banners reading: No foreign intervention all we need is a no-fly zone. They said they alone could do it and that they have enough arms to take out Gaddafi’s army since all of his army had defected and that only mercenaries were fighting for him.. Now we are seeing that this was pure propaganda. The rebels really do not have the support of the majority of the people of Libya and are now relying on the Americans, French and British to topple Gaddafi for them.

The rebels claim of mass killings of civilians by Gaddafi but are yet to be verified on TV. They the rebels got the no-fly zone and also a no drive zone but are yet to make any inroads. This tells me that Gaddafy still command a lot of support in Libya. We are yet to see the mass protests like we saw in Egypt, Tunisia and Yemen?

The West is focussing on Libya because of it’s oil. The Americans, British and French are not being fair. All they are after is oil. There are 6 million people in Libya and we are yet to see them out en masse protesting against Gaddafy. It seems as if the bombings have brought the people closer to Gaddafi because without the use of tanks and heavy weapons the Gaddafi suppoerters are driving the rebels out of the areas they captured during the bombings of Gaddafi tanks, airplanes and command centers.

Now Obama has sent in the CIA to wreck havoc in Libya in order to take control of the oil. Obama forgot his roots came from Africa and that he should not help to rob the African people.

Every day hundreds of thousands of people march in Yemen, Syria, Tunisia and Bahrain and scores are being killed by government forces yet no pressure is being applied by the US and its Allies on those brutal and repressive dictators. Now the CIA is in Libya. Why? Because Obama is determined to carry the crusaders doctrine forward. I must say shame on Obama – The Nobel Peace prize winner.

Thought Obama said no boots on the ground? The CIA is a part of the American military apparatus.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the cladestine agencies. It is the culture and expectations of citizens of those countries. Americans and to a certain extent, British nationals, expect full disclosure of the use of their tax dollars… this includes CIA and MI6. Add to that the general “open” nature of these countries, you should expect no less from their reporters.

ROME (Reuters) – At least 40 civilians have been killed in air strikes by Western forces on Tripoli, the top Vatican official in the Libyan capital told a Catholic news agency on Thursday, quoting witnesses.

“The so-called humanitarian raids have killed dozens of civilian victims in some neighborhoods of Tripoli,” said Giovanni Innocenzo Martinelli, the Apostolic Vicar of Tripoli.

“I have collected several witness accounts from reliable people. In particular, in the Buslim neighborhood, due to the bombardments, a civilian building collapsed, causing the death of 40 people,” he told Fides, the news agency of the Vatican missionary arm.

Libyan officials have taken foreign reporters to the sites of what they say were the aftermath of Western air strikes on Tripoli but evidence of civilian casualties has been inconclusive.

Western powers say they have no confirmed evidence of civilian casualties from air strikes, which they have carried out under a U.N. mandate to protect civilians caught in conflict between Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi’s forces and rebels.

“It’s true that the bombardments seem pretty much on target, but it is also true that when they hit military targets, which are in the middle of civilian neighborhoods, the population is also involved,” Martinelli said.

“Yesterday I said that bombardments had hit, albeit indirectly, some hospitals. To be precise, one of these hospitals is in Mizda,” he said, mentioning a town about 145 km (90 miles) southwest of the capital.

Martinelli said living conditions in the Libyan capital were getting more difficult by the day, while on the ground a military stalemate appeared to be taking hold.

“That is why I say that a diplomatic solution is the principal way to put an end to the spilling of blood among Libyans, offering Gaddafi a dignified exit,” he said.
