President Donald Trump Administration’s continued pressure on Cuba has two intended consequences. The first is to reverse President Barack Obama’s rapprochement with the Cuban Government, then led by President Raul Castro, with the aim of appeasing some members of the Cuban-American community as payback for the strong support Trump received from them in the 2016 Presidential elections. He is keeping his promise to them. The second is to end Cuba’s support for Nicolás Maduro’s regime in Venezuela.
Statements from President Trump and members of his foreign policy team have been clear about these intentions. Because of the collateral damages expected from President Trump’s new Cuba policy, his administration’s objectives will not easily be achieved. His actions against Cuba could backfire.
Trump’s Cuban policy is part of his obsession with reversing President Barack Obama’s landmark initiatives and successes. His relentless assault on President Obama’s domestic and foreign policies began soon after being sworn in as president. This came as no surprise.
Dismantling President Obama’s hemispheric policies is a misguided and myopic approach to peace and stability in the region and his Cuban policy is a stark example of this reality. If successful, Trump’s hemispheric policy, and I am cautious in using the term ‘policy’, will reverse the tremendous progress made in advancing democracy, human rights and the rule of law in the region in the post-Cold War era under presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and especially under President Obama.
But what is wrong with j John Charles.thinknhe smart bit not so smart at all.must be a chocolate with white cream inside with that level of foolishness.
If Obama was not a big joke he would let Castro know, the embargo will be lifted. When you unshackled the Cubans.Let them elect their leaders. The property of the U.S citizens which was confiscated by you, when you overthrow the government of Cuba, compensate them. The woman from New Jersey who killed the policeman and is hiding in Cuba, send her back to the U.S.Then the embargo will be lifted. Now,if this was done.Trump would have no right to undo this agreement.
Trump isn’t the only one was against this one-sided move,Bob Mendes senator from N.J.(democrat) and others was and is still against Obama’s action.
In closing I would like Mr.Ward to tell his readers,The fake story which was hatched by Hillary Clinton the Democratic party and some corrupt FBI and the DOT members.Mueller’s final sentence is TRUMP had no part in collusion with Russia. And obstruction of justice….You cannot obstruct something that never happened…Bye and see you later alligator
but why do people look at obama as such a great man? he could talk a good game and like skerrit, bawball people with charm but if you look at it properly, it is because of his policies that trump got elected in the first place.the people got fed up of his everybody first and his country last policies that they elected trump into power. so many steel mills were shut under his rule cause he made imported steel cheaper than amarican steel. so many people lost there jobs when american mills shut down, race riots and race tension was at its highest under obama’s rule. he was the one who ordered the release of the leaders of ISIS who were in an american run jail in iraq and were released when he shut down the prison and pulled troops out. under him america was the laughing stock of all the world powers ( china and russia especially) and thats just a few of the reasons why obama got trump elected into power
Let’s not forget that Obama is also the one who pushed for more LGBT normalization resulting in the nationwide legalization of gay marriage, transexuals in the military and and changing of the social attitude towards LGBT resulting in a rapid increase in these perversions.
Most people who don’t know much about politics adore Obama simply because he’s black.
Could backfire? Remember Cuba had said to hell with America decades ago. It is only recently embargos were relaxed and Americans started flocking back to Cuba. Cuba and Venezuela have always been friends. Always. and these countries are not fickle in their genuine friendships. It WILLL backfire.
Mr Ward,Obama is the only one who became a laureate (receiving the Nobel Prize) by doing nothing) he have nothing to show.
Trump is keeping promises made to the electorates of the U.S.A not just to Cuban-Americans,not just to a particular group.Trump don’t believe in identity politic like democrats. This man is keeping his promises. What he has not fulfilled is because he blocked by democrats and weak Republicans. We must remember some bills in the Senate can only become law by 60 votes and Republican party don’t have the magic number.
Back to Mr Ward. When you say “Trump’s obsession with reversing President Obama landmark initiative and successes.”and “The tremendous progress made in advancing democracy human rights and the rule of law.”
Sir,can you show us Obama successes. And the tremendous progress you are talking about? My Jamaican friends would say about you “im just playing with words.”
What change Obama brought to Cuba? The people are still under dictatorship, longing…
