Cyberattacks follow jailing of WikiLeaks’ Assange

London (CNN) — The websites of MasterCard and the Swedish Prosecution Authority were attacked Wednesday, apparently in connection with the WikiLeaks scandal.

The attacks came a day after WikiLeaks Editor-in-Chief Julian Assange was jailed in London on a Swedish arrest warrant that was not related to the leaks coming from his website.

A MasterCard spokesman would not comment on who was behind the cyberattack — which left the corporate website inaccessible but did not affect the use of its cards — but various news agencies reported supporters of WikiLeaks were responsible, and a Twitter account sympathetic to WikiLeaks claimed responsibility.

On Tuesday, MasterCard said it was working to suspend the acceptance of its cards on WikiLeaks, but company spokesman James Issokson wouldn’t comment Wednesday on who may have been behind the attack.

A Twitter posting from someone called @Anon_Operation took responsibility for the attacks, calling it “Operation: Payback.” The claim of responsibility could not immediately be confirmed.

For all of you who think that people can access private computers of all and who call others stupid for making good sense and providing good advice “as you so-called gaynproud” – don’t know what you have to proud about anyway, I have an advice for you.
Personally, I am not worried if anyone hacks my computer. I will not lose sleep over it. I have a good computer system. I have stated that I pay for security with my Provider who is a reputable one. If that Provider is not a secure one, consider this, I reside in a country that if it has failed to perform its duty, I will take certain steps to be compensated. Rest assured that I will fight it and receive satisfaction in time. As the saying, “The pen and also the mouth :) is mightier than the sword.” They will not be able to deceive me. For one, they will lose my business.
In addition, from what I have heard and read about, I do not conduct personal business over the Internet. If I access a Website for certain information it has to be a reputable one.
If I happen to be on the computer, there are times I do receive notification that certain Websites are trying to access my computer and were blocked and that if I wish to grant it I have the option to do so. I do absolutely nothing about it. Therefore, I am not stupid.
And you bloggers who comment on DNO, for goodness – God’s sake, cease calling people stupid, etc… Everyone has a certain degree of intelligence. Please be respectful. We do not know each other but we must respect each other and accord them their due rights and dignity as we expect of others – The Golden Rule which Our Lord Jesus Christ taught us.
All of us as God’s children, no matter what our degree of intelligence and status, can learn something from others. This is genuine adult maturity.
I love reading the comments and also smile and laugh at some of them. You provide some good comments which no doubt open the eyes of others, even to the most highly intelligent people. Please do not utilize profane language. St. Paul said, “Avoid profane language.”
Whatever is contained in Holy Scriptures, if we do not practice it, “It is an offence, an abomination to God, a grievous/mortal sin.” Christians should know this.
If you are accustomed to using profane language, please refrain from doing so. It is obviously offensive to whom you respond and others who are reading your comments.
The Internet and Website as DON is an excellent one that we, as fellow Dominicans and those who reside world-wide can read current news, know what is occurring specifically in our beautiful island and provide our comments. Let us respect It as a reputable Website.
Let us all provide our comments but be congenial to everyone. In this manner, as God’s children, we can communicate better and also teach each other. This, too, is true Christianity.
    God bless you!

The cyberattacks are all staged by the govt. and its hackers. The objective is to shut down the internet as we know it and to regulate it and its users. In other words, censorship.

there was no actual hacking, just Dos attacks (denial of service) couple people hundred used a program to generate a lot of traffic on the website which makes it slow then eventually crashes the server… i got the program too…and if DNO ever mention the people who responsible, they could be next on the list…rules #1 and #2 of the internet…

    ADMIN
Hacking is more sophisticated. It’s like cracking a code or password or infiltrating a server. DDOS can be done by anyone. We bought a couple programmes last year and have them ready to play tit-for-tat as long as it takes as we have never attacked anyone’s site and will find it very mischievous for someone to do it to us without provocation. But we will now adopt the rules of engagement rule as we know all the “players”, their names, addresses, relatives and friends, and a list too long to mention.

Good for you DON! You must be prepared in the event of – the inevitable.
I have paid security on my computer system. I am just waiting to see what will happen if any hacker dare access my computer.

haha ! Hackers seldom attack individual machines. It has to be a source of value. The motivation fro most hackers are is the chase and the thrill of penetrating a source that is considered restricted. Unless you have wrong someone and they feel they need to penetrate your system. T any rate, security is never stagnate is it continuous since the attacker is always two steps ahead of you! Sorry to bust your bubble but it is the reality.

        December 10, 2010

that does not mean that you are completely secure with your “paid” security system on your computer.
there are always ways around that. and any sane IT related person would say this…
The only computers that are safe from hackers are those that are off, disconnected from the network, disassemled and in a sealed box.

and if a hacked dared hacked ur pc. you may or may not know. a good hacker does his work without anyone noticing. in and out. no problems.

The software used as an offensive may help to some extent. However playing tit for tat may not be the best approach. Most hackers are extremely smart and seldom interact with their victim’s site. Taking down a site is the easier thing to do with no trace. No amount of software can help you and you are really wasting energy playing Tit for that. What you DNO need is a mitigation strategy employing various technologies for resilience. You sight has to be tested for that. The exact how would could be supplied in the form of a consultancy.

Smoke ! You are right on target. I will however say that It professionals knowledge extend only so far. A security professional takes security to the next level. Big difference in the two.

What this whole thing is about is the govt. taking over the internet,(the elite via the U.S.) censoring it, kicking off sites that provide alternative media news and requiring you to register (thumb print and swipping your drivers license) to use the internet. So they will own you and every move that you make and all information that you will have access to.
This is not about the govt. “protecting you” from the internet. How absurd is that?
It is about information control and social conditioning.
    Fight against it.

    ADMIN
Any site in the world is hackable, even the most security. People are always working around the clock to crack the world’s most secure sites, some out of fun, some for using it for illegal means, for stealing secret info or for shutting down a site. Viruses are like robots and billions of them can be produced in a couple seconds or minutes to shut down even the largest servers in the world… You have some really good hackers out there. I am sure MasterCard thought they were untouchable… what says lil DNO… You have some real troublemakers out there.

A true hacker never brags in public. They brag among their close circles. Those College boys are jsut wanna bees

          December 9, 2010

Yes they do, as foolish and braggers as they are! We cannot all hear and read everything. This is why each one must reach one and inform others as the circumstances call for it. Some time ago I heard a man who was imprisoned for computer hacking state on CNN that people are foolish to conduct business On-Line. This should tell you something about those hackers.

          December 10, 2010

Well as I stated before which clearly you didn’t READ! True hackers do not brag in open forums. They brag among their peers as that give s a sense of accomplishment and notoriety. This is coming from someone who has analyzed and profiled hackers. Unlike you who clearly know not what you think of. If you do not even know how to turn on a computer any amateur would take you for a ride and say that they are a hacker haha !

Mouth jell santie you daily show your stupidity. Nothing can prevent a hacker from accessing your computer. The only solution is to unplug it from the internet. Considering you are soo daft, I suggest you just turn it off and unplug it. DNO knows also knows where you are messaging from as your IP address is registered. That is how they know when you post multiple times. Nothing connected to the internet is safe from hacking, You are just too poor, stupid and worthless to hack. I know exactly who you are and where you use the internet.

Well stated DNO. The devil is in the offing. No matter how much they try to protect their Websites there are those who will find a way to hack them. These people spend their time accordingly.
As I always say: “Satan finds some mischief for idle brains, hands, mind, feet and wicked hearts to do.” Their day will come when they will stand before the Lord to their regret and eternal detriment and pay the price for their wickedness and what they have put others through. God is patient!
