Pope apologizes for church’s ‘offenses’ against indigenous peoples

Pope Francis apologized Thursday for the sins and “offenses” committed by the Catholic Church against indigenous peoples during the colonial-era conquest of the Americas.

History’s first Latin American pope “humbly” begged forgiveness during an encounter in Bolivia with indigenous groups and other activists and in the presence of Bolivia’s first-ever indigenous president, Evo Morales.

Francis noted that Latin American church leaders in the past had acknowledged “grave sins were committed against the native peoples of America in the name of God.” St. John Paul II, for his part, apologized to the continent’s indigenous for the “pain and suffering” caused during the 500 years of the church’s presence on the continent during a 1992 visit to the Dominican Republic.

Those who support the pope and the Roman Catholic institution do not care what the Bible says, and they have even less regard for history.

Have you read Fox’s Book of Martyrs? It documents multiplied thousands of cases where Christians were put to death because they would not confess that they believed the unscriptural teachings of Rome. They were beheaded, burned at the stake, and tortured until they expired, because they would not believe that the bread and wine became the actual Body and Blood of Christ, Mary was a mediator between God and men, and salvation was by works.

A friend told me he visited old underground torture chambers at a large Catholic church in Mexico. He saw the racks were “heretics” had been literally pulled apart and died because they confessed that JESUS was the only way to the Father.

Read St. John’s Gospel and Paul’s Epistle to the Romans.

    Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

The Roman Catholic Church will always do what is best for it at the time. It operates on the false assumption that the end justifies the means.

As circumstances change what is best for the church at the time changes. Because of this the church can be expected to change a policy once in a while. It survives by its teaching of “papal infallibility” and not allowing its people to challenge the decisions of the church.

What the church wants to keep covered is the fact that the very things the Pope is now apologizing for are things other Popes approved of. Why is the present pope apologizing? Because he knows more flies are caught with honey than with vinegar. It has nothing to do with what is right and what is wrong just in case you thought it did.) There is a need to improve the church’s status in the world. Its time for the honey!

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill, D.D., Evangelist.

Isn’t that true of all churches? Present day so called churches are doing the same and even worse than the catholic church did then. How many evangelical pastors abuse young girls? All sin is sin. We all have to face the master. Please let me know where in the bible sin is given hierarchical treatment. I will love to read it. I need to know what the big sins vs the small sins are.

      • July 14, 2015

During my 50 plus years of ministry in Canada, USA, and foreign nations I can honestly say I
cannot recall being made aware of an evangelical pastor sexually abusing a young girl. I am not denying it has never happened. I am saying the fact that I have not heard of it suggests it is not common. I have certainly heard of other sexual sins being committed by evangelical pastors.

Any sexual sin on the part of an evangelical pastor is taken seriously. An erring pastor is not merely transferred to another pulpit. He is suspended from the ministry until there is evidence he has truly repented and been restored to grace.

All sin is sin. But fornication (which includes all illicit sex) is in a category by itself according to 1 Corinthians 6:18-19. Sins are NOT all the same. Nobody would say stealing a loaf of bread is the same as robbing a bank, or throwing a stone through the window of a house is the same as burning the house down.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

Well stated. What a Pope! The Holy Spirit gave us a another good Pope. He has a certain captivating style and words.—@The Real Facts: July 12, 2015

I beg to differ! First of all Holy Spirit cannot function without the authority of Father and Son, for He is their “Supernatural Influence” in this world today, to complete the work of Salvation and Reconciliation to the Holiness of God Almighty, Eternal Spirit, who is “the Christ” living in the Man whose name is Jesus.

I am saying that without the authority of Father and Son–the One God of Heaven–Holy Spirit is silent among men, in society–on whom God has turned His back

The Roman Catholic Church, congregation and hierarchy, is not aware of the work or Holy Spirit–as their rituals and doctrines are based on human wisdom and philosophy–which are the rules and regulations , the laws of man, better known as religion.

    • July 13, 2015

      continued from above–The Real Facts

God wants nothing to do with Religion–and it is unfortunate that the Pope does not knows this, as he continues to lead his sheep on the path of desolation–good for the dull, the innocent, the humble, and the ignorance, that God’s Love is full of mercy and compassion; He will spare them from disgrace.

When Paul asked some of John disciples whom he met with at Ephesus:

“Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” For me, today, this response is alarming! But some 25 years ago it would mean nothing to me.

It is the same with more than the majority of Roman Catholics, including the Pope, Bishops, and Priests–they don’t think of the guidance of Holy Spirit, because their mind is alienated to Him; as that mind of theirs is conformed to the things of the world, ruled by the world–man himself.

      • July 14, 2015

Religion is man doing things to win God’s favor. Salvation is “…through faith… Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8,9)

Salvation is a free gift because it has already been paid for by the death of Christ on the cross.
        (Romans 6:23) (Romans 5:6-8)

Because this gift is IN Christ we receive it by receiving Him as our personal Savior.

“And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” (1 John 5:11-12)

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock: If any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me.” (Revelation 3:20)

At he heart’s door the Savior is knocking,
at the heart’s door fast closed by sin.
At the heart’s door the Savior is waiting,
oh, draw back the bolt and let Him in.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

It is noted whenever DNO posts such articles, it is as if the gates of hell open and all devils in hell are let loose. This is portrayed in some of your comments.
Some of you love to insult others and make derogatory comments about the Pope, the Clergy and lay people – the laity and about their religion but when you get a response you feel offended. The truth always offends. Do so never like so.
It appears you are oblivious the eyes of Our Lord are upon you, taking note of all what you say and do for your judgment and a mini one while you age.
You forget yourselves and your lifestyle. Let everyone watch what they state. Expect nothing better that you people cannot deliver. If you do not like the heat, you should stay out of the fire.
I often wonder how many of you, with that ungodly attitude toward your fellow people will ever make it to Heaven? God knows!
Learn the Golden Rule and practice it. It is in the Bible – the Words of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Don’t you realize that you are speaking against yourself? I mean who is more rude and extremely disrespectful on this blog than you are? And I am speaking about every “News Article” which you comment on–as they come, or regardless of the story.

Just look at what you wrote above: “If you do not like the heat, you should stay out of the fire”

You are saying to others, that you will be who want to be and say what you want to say against them/us and we just accept it from you.

Well this kind of attitude from you is not a Christian attitude; so don’t hit on those who will not accept it –you have gone too far; it is time for a change of the better; not the worse.

A big fool too and an ignorant one, devoid of the truth!
Our Almighty Father established His Catholic Church through His Blessed Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ 2,000 years ago.
Since then, many different churches were formed. Their leaders, commencing with Luther and Henry VIII were instrumental in preaching falsehood against the Catholic Church and leading them astray.
Some of them as the Anglican Church which Henry VIII formed marry people of the same gender. One even has a bishop which is a proclaimed homosexual. So much for churches that preach the Word of God.
They never go after those churches; always the Catholic Church. It shows their hatred for It, one billion members, going strong until the end of the world which has done them nothing.
One day God will put a stop to their persecution of this Church.
One day, also, we will find out where the souls of those leaders who died are and where those who are still alive will go including their followers.

everyone lets pray, acussing each other will not wipe out our sins, for all have sined , lets all pray ,lets not walk backward but fowards, today we can do better, lets move on

    • July 14, 2015

The only thing that will wash our sins away is the precious blood of Christ :!: Hebrews 9:12-14, Hebrews 9:22, Hebrews 10:10-14, 1 John 1:7, Revelation 1:5.6.

We must believe that His death upon the cross paid the price in full or our salvation and trust His BLOOD, and nothing but His BLOOD to save us. John 3:16,36, Acts 10:34-43, Acts 16:25-31.

According to the Scriptures we cannot earn salvation by religious activities or good works. It is a gift and must be received as one would receive a gift -that is, by believing it is ours – and thanking the giver!

Does this mean “works” have no place in the plan? Of course not! But we do good works AFTER we are saved to show our APPRECIATION for what the Lord has done for us – not BEFORE we are saved to EARN salvation. If you examine Ephesians 2:8-10 you will see we are saved UNTO good works not BY good works!

Please read: Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5, Romans 4:1-7.

      Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

What do you know about God? You have to be godly spiritually enlightened to comprehend the ways of God.
Actually, one way or the other, whoever God finds guilty, yes, He will deal with them in time. Those who harmed others in any manner, they may have asked God forgiveness, be it on their death bed. It is left to God to forgive or not.
Those who predeceased us and God found guilty, He has already dealt with them. As I always say, God and those souls know where they are. At this time, we do not. We will, though, on Judgment Day when God will judge all nations and people. You are no exception.
We cannot judge or rather should not judge anyone. If per chance we do, it makes no difference. They are merely words with no power.
Only God can judge. He weighs out the whys, wherefores and motives, according to the heart and intent. These determine how they will be judged.
Know that when people die, they know where their souls will go to.

What you say about the present pope is most interesting.

If the truth about Pope Francis hit the fan right now there would be panic.

Catholic people have no idea and even evangelical preachers are afraid to mention it, and most would have noting to gain by doing so.

But the papacy is not a Biblical institution. It came about by an evolutionary process. Bonafice 3 was the first to accept the title “Universal Bishop” about the year 604. The Catholic Church has taken scripture verses out of context and misapplied them to justify this office for practical purposes. The average Catholic has no knowledge the kind of men many popes have been. But what they have on their hands now is a ticking disaster.

Or apologise for being complicit in endorsing slavery in the early days of the slave trade?

It’s funny how the evangelicals in our islands never notice the historical irony of their religious fervour, for it was that same religion that was used to justify enslaving Africans and Amerindians and ‘converting’ the ‘heathen’ of the ‘New World’ centuries ago.

Dominica is a place where much discrimination and oppression existed and was also practiced and no doubt still is.
Consider the Caribs in those days. The Church was not responsible for this discrimination.
Who is perfect? Who have not offended God and his people?
Man or woman, if you are old enough as an adult, how many babies have you killed – murdered, suppressed being born through also using contraceptives which have offended God?

Well stated. What a Pope! The Holy Spirit gave us a another good Pope. He has a certain captivating style and words.
This one makes me smile/laugh: I heard on US Catholic Radio, even the Media (speaking of the US media) which does not like the Church, likes him.”
I do not know old you are. However do you know the hymn, “Full In The Panting Heart of Rome . . . Beneath the apostles crowning dome. . . God bless the Pope, the Great the Good . . .” On occasion, we would sing this hymn in Church. I still do in private. :)

Facts you really believe that? I cannot determine whether or not the Holy Sprit played any part in that man’s life. What I do know; he has exposed one of his habits, and that is indulging into mind altering products, such as the cocaine plant leaves, hence I have reason to believe that he smokes cocaine!

Now we know that God hate the sin of homosexuality, however, this man condones homosexuality, and heads a religion which prohibits his priests to have wife’s. Thus, encouraging homosexuality!

Now; in Hebrews 13:8 we read “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Do you really believe if God hated homosexual conduct two thousand plus years ago he is approved of it in the twenty-first century? Have God hanged his mind and give you a man who condones homosexuality, and appointed a man who might homosexual over his Church, if the Roman religion was not false?

The Bible teaches God is not the author of confusion Facts!

I wonder when our government will do the same for the “Carib War” of 1930 and implement the conditions of the International Labour Organization Convention 169 that they ratified at the UN and the UN Convention of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. They want to use the Kalinagos as part of their bid for reparations but Kalinagos should refuse until they are given equal and just opportunity by Dominicans. As far as I’m concerned, Black Dominicans already got reparations when they got governance of the island and its resources while Kalinagos became even more marginalized. So its us that deserve reparations for our entire island and its wealth being taken from us.
I’m also still bewildered that the Catholic Church has 14 acres of land in the Territory with a title dated in the 1930s and the reservation status was declared in 1904. Equality and Justice is different. Even if we can go to any schools, our poverty keeps us out of the best ones, same with land access and loans. We want…

I gave you thumbs up for this one. When he speaks of world leaders, I would think he refers primarily to the progressive countries and also those in Latin American countries. They are downright cowardice. They could eliminate poverty of all in their own countries. but fail to do so. What they do is a band-aid; only temporary which has no lasting effect.
Now look what the majority of them have legislated in the land, so-called same sex marriage which does not benefit anyone in their country or in the world whatsoever. Our patient God will deal with them in time.
