Jamaica – United States President Barack Obama says he is pleased with the level of talks between himself and Prime Minister, Portia Simpson Miller this morning, on a range of issues including security, energy and economic growth.

In his statement issued at the Office of the Prime Minister Wednesday following a bilateral meeting, the US president said energy was one of the main areas discussed as well as his country’s role in helping Jamaica and other Caribbean states reduce costs associated with it.

“People in the Caribbean despite having less resources, are paying significantly higher prices for energy. If we can lower those costs through the development of clean energy and increased energy efficiency, we could release a whole host of additional investment and growth. There are going to be a whole host of areas where the US can be helpful,” he said.

    Dear Mr. Obama,
the Caribbean leaders like Dominica will not look to implementing those renewable energy systems because it would impact positively for the citizens of this country. one of the main sources of taxes is from the importation of FUEL, wind and sun energy would literally have a zero energy production cost. SO DONT BE FOOLED WHERE THERE IS FUEL GREEDY MEN WILL BE KINGS.

Until we have a 2 term limit, politicians will seek to gain as much fuel taxes from their caricom subjects to be able to pay for their good life and money aside like petrocaribe for funding election campaigns.
The taxes they get from high fuel and electricity is what feeds the parties in power.
dpnt hold you breath waiting for them to bite the hand that feeds them.

Mr.President Obama will only promised not much he can do for the Caribbean without congress , senate in America, If leaders like China , Venezuela promised theirs a better chance they will deliver because their leaders have the full power the Caribbean should have closer relationship with these countries.

Talk talk talk. When the US actually starts helping Caribbean countries only then can we take them seriously. Empty promises! Yet we survive!

I agree with you bro. that leaders should not tell their people to go to hell but believe me, you can not make cement from tarnish either even if it’s fertile!

I am wondering. Did any of the Caribbean governments – CARICOM asked Obama for help with their energy costs? I find it strange that he wants to help them and for what?
I read that Venezuela was supplying the US with oil. I would ask, what’s going on here? Why is Obama eager and willing to assist them? Someone must know more than I do about this matter.

Boy is he aging and getting white hair from that job. More rhetoric which says nothing new.

I once saw on CNN that someone drew a picture of Obama and shown what he would look like including his hair, in four years. So this is the result. He is now in office approximately 6 years. Two more years and his hair will be whiter.
Being a US President is no easy matter. The stress, late nights and not getting ample rest and sleep will make him age faster. As long as he is healthy. The grey/white hair also comes with age although he is not yet 60 years. This may be the reason why the US President can only remain in office for two terms. There are reasons for that.
They are fortunate they vacate the office alive and still apparently healthy. They must have some good doctors in addition to eating nutritiously.

I Anticipated that and guess what ! Dominica is well poised to lead in that regard given our comparative advantage noting our tremendous natural resource for renewable energies example – sun (solar), wind, water (hydro), ocean, geothermal and wave energy. However as a people we love to spend our human energy in non productive things …………… so I will not hold my breathe for to long on that one.

Venezuela will soon find out who their real friends are. Talk about isolation. Socialism cannot win.

Attending a meeting doesnt by no mean say that Dominica and the other Caricom countries are not in support of Venezuela, we are indeed in great support of Venezuela and will remain friends with Venezuela. No other country have assisted us like they did.
