April 15, 2019: Protesters assured of security, ex-govt members arrested
Some members of the former government in Sudan have been arrested by the transitional military council which is now running the country, according to reports coming out of the country on Monday morning.
There has been no mention of the reasons why they were picked up and who exactly had been arrested. Ousted Omar al-Bashir is currently in detention and is likely to face trial in Sudan.
Protesters who are holding a sit-in which is entering is second week, have also been assured of security by the military. As of Monday morning, protesters have blocked efforts by soldiers to remove road blocks, according to reports.
The sit-in at the army headquarters in the capital, Khartoum, was the last straw that forced the military to oust President Omar al-Bashir last week.
Protesters have refused to leave until the military hands over power to a civilian-led transition team. The military high command has offered the protest leaders the opportunity to name a prime minister, Al Jazeera reported on Sunday.
NB: Sudan and South Sudan are not the same country. South Sudan gained its political independence from Sudan in 2011. It is now the newest country in the world. Dominican, Dr. Thomson Fontaine is currently on assignment in South Sudan.
There are some people such as Viewsexpressed, ldo France, and some others asking for a change my god a change to what? It is like turkeys voting for Christmas, or giving the keys to a mad 😡 person to open the mad House. Put all jokes aside.. How on earth could any right thinking person put Lennox Linton in charge of a country like our Dominica, one has got to be mad as broomstick to do any such thing. Linton has never kept a proper sentence or indeed an interview in his life all he does is rubbish today and crap tomorrow. The only thing that guy knows best is how to con his supporters in giving him money for his pocket that deceiver falsification lies.
Dominica is presently plagued with a multiplicity of long-term problems. These include but not limited to: perennial high unemployment, midget wages, mold infested public buildings, hysterical partisan politics, diseased pothole roads, a badly broken healthcare system and a corrupt electoral system.. There is so much to occupy our focus internally. Still, some get on the airwaves concerning themselves with a distant African country that they know very little about to try to spread cheap political propaganda. They are a huge embarrassment to themselves by confusing the Republic of the Sudan with the Republic of South Sudan. In 2011 South Sudan gained its independence from the Republic of the Sudan.
A dictator, Omar Al-Basher, ruled Sudan for thirty consecutive years with an iron fist. He jailed his opponents on trumped up charges, raped the country’s treasury of untold millions of dollars, bribed the military forces for loyalty to him, but the people’s power eventually did him in. When the people are fed up they use their power to effect change. Time for CHANGE in Dominica! Tired of the HAND TO MOUTH LIFE! Enough is Enough!
@IboFrance “When the people are fed up they use their power to effect change.” You are right on point with that idea; it is the people who must have the final say
But, but, but, “Time for CHANGE in Dominica! Tired of the HAND TO MOUTH LIFE! Enough is Enough!”
The question is, who are the people of Dominica? The positive choice, or the final word, has to come from the majority, doesn’t it?
And yet, the people who are calling for change, in Dominica, are the minority. The majority is satisfied with what the have; how do you think that can work out?
But don’t tell me; I will wait to see how it works after the election polls are closed
Elizabeth, sometimes the election results are not a true reflection of the people’s wish. The electoral system is fraught with too much shenanigans and machinations. You are twisting yourself into a verbal contortionist in order to support this government, Elizabeth. You are on the wrong side of history.
The majority of germans supported Hitler. Majority of Venezuelans voted Chavez into power and still voted for Maduro in 2013 despite their country falling into ruin under Chavez. So majority really does not mean much. There is lots of money to around now from CBI, AID etc. Wait till the well dries up and then you will see how quickly the majority will turn…
This would apply if our elections were judged to be fair and not distorted by voters, not all of them qualified, brought in by a contending party at its expense. But even then, parliament, not government, reflects different public views and to ignore them is not only undemocratic but stores up trouble for a majority party that thinks it can rule with disregard for the opinions of a sizeable proportion of the population. Winner does not take all and consensus building would be preferable to confrontation.
Dude it’s not the same circumstances, ..all-u have to organize to go to the polls soon, stay dere talking cr*p and don’t come down to put your boots on the ground to help get them out. It’s not the same as Sudan! U bore ppl with that stay away, do-nothing monotone.
So basically Venezuela but in less time and with a soft dictatorship instead of a full blown dictatorship. What I am confused about is why the Sudanese people’s rebellion is legitimate but that of the Venezuelan people is not. Is it because the PSUV had access to more funds so they could pay off more people to keep quiet? Including countries like ours who support that regime over the will of the people while at the same time talking about “sovereignty” and “self determination”?
I doe like their Econ model neither but it’s purely the US that has a big axe to grind putting all this together, understandably so many US firms had their assets stripped as their Econ model strictly creates haves-and-have-nots abject poverty just as they have now and much like Cuba in the 40’s/50’s. People have to try something, except now the US is pissed off.
I thought Thompson fixing Sudan.
Your DLP cretin and scatterbrain, go read a book. Idiot the two places Sudan and South Sudan are not the same .You are more ……….than Skerrit. Give the real PhD doctor Fontaine a break!!!
Skerrit Must Go
Skerrit Must Go
LAZY Skerrit Must Go Now
Are you dim or just plain ignorant. Thomson Fontaine is in S. Sudan, a neighbour of Sudan but a separate independent country.
See you soon guys because I can see I can see the downfall of Satan, and after the falls there will be several arrests and some will be jailed, for life
and those labour party coonumonees on Kairi FM and social media not knowing the difference between the Sudan and South Sudan there running their mouth trying to malign Dr. Thomas Fontaine. The new meaning of gross ignorance is a 144 labourites.
No reports of goons teargassing protesters, as happened in Dominica when a peaceful gathering was coming to an end .
Hope this act of atrocity by these semi illiterate goons of the CDPF is fully investigated one day soon, and the chips fall where they need to!
I think the same thing is going to happen soon somewhere in the Eastern Caribbean. They all fall eventually, none of them is immune from the masses wrath. Watch this space!
RandyX I happen to know what you talking about what will take place in Dominica if workers didn’t win the next general election. I have news for your workers party isn’t going to win.We are ready and waiting to Rumble in the Caribbean “who laugh last laugh best”😆😅🤣
If that’s what you believe… Great! Good luck to you and your fellow Red Clinic and Housing Revolution recipients. By the way, never mind rumble in the Caribbean more like farting in DA.
