Federal prosecutors are investigating the possibility of bringing charges of civil rights violations against George Zimmerman in connection to Trayvon Martin’s death.

A Florida jury found Zimmerman not guilty of murder yesterday.
Several civil rights leaders asked the federal government to pursue charges of civil rights violations against Zimmerman after the verdict was announced.

DNO could you please permit me to post the following on this article for your users/readers? Thank you!
There is an organization called “Color of Change” which I subscribe to. Although I reside in Canada, I receive current information and update of whatever is of significance which is occurring in the US. They pertain to a number of human rights issues. This is one I recently received which is entitled “We still fight for Trayvon Martin”.
Not only in talking, arguing and commenting will we change the world and adverse attitudes of some people but through action by contacting those who represent us in legislatures and parliaments of the world. Whatever we do, also do so prayerfully, peacefully and respectfully. Those of you who especially reside in the, US please take note and do your part. Even from apart we can do our utmost. Canadians are not exempt nor those of other countries for, “We are the world and we are the children/people of the world”. What affects the world affects us and triggers down to every part of the world.
Be a voice, especially on this sad and important issue for the right of Trayvon Martin who does not have an earthly voice and who was deprived of his right and voice to walk God’s earth in Florida.
Atrocities to others, worst yet, innocent victims, will eventually and soon enough be punished. As God knows, sees and hear all things and abhors atrocities of every nature which are committed to his people throughout the world, He will bless you for your effort, for standing up for love, justice, truth and peace in his world, a world he has given to us to love God with all our hearts and souls and to love one another as we love ourselves with no exception.
Canada has a US Consulate office. Contact your MP or MPP’s office who will assist you to contact this office also by email.

The following from “Color of Change, USA.”
Today, admitted killer, George Zimmerman is free. Join the movement to end the senseless violence perpetrated by unaccountable vigilantes and police due to racial profiling: demand federal civil rights charges be brought against Zimmerman.
George Zimmerman stalked and killed Trayvon Martin in late February of last year. It took 45 days for Sanford, Florida police to arrest 17-year-old Trayvon Martin’s admitted killer — and only 16 hours for jurors to acquit him of second-degree murder and manslaughter last night.1
We are angry. We are sad. And we are in pain.
We send our love and support to Trayvon’s parents — Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin — and we grieve with them and the countless other families of Black children who have been killed just for being Black.2
In this time of national sorrow, let’s turn our rightful frustration into action and grow a movement to hold the criminal justice system that fails Black Americans every day3 accountable.
Since the beginning, the Department of Justice has closely monitored the state’s case against George Zimmerman, and the DOJ can still bring charges against Trayvon’s killer. Please join us in calling on Attorney General Eric Holder to bring federal civil rights charges against Zimmerman, and help us strengthen our efforts to end racial profiling and the violence it creates.
What does it say about our society when a civilian can shoot and kill a Black child who is just walking home from the store, and what can it mean when the killer is set free? What does this say about the value our society places on the lives of young Black children? It tells us that a Black life has little worth. It tells us that Black youth are seen as nothing more than violent criminals.4 And it tells us how much more work we must do to achieve a just society.
The police department in Sanford botched the investigation from start to finish.5 But we did not stay silent. Had it not been for the dedicated activism and work of Trayvon’s family, ColorOfChange members and countless others, Zimmerman may have never been arrested — let alone gone to trial. Our collective commitment to fight for justice for Trayvon was overwhelming. We responded. We organized. We forced authorities to make an arrest in a case that easily could have been forgotten, just like so many before. The US Department of Justice was forced to intervene, and although it took 45 days, Zimmerman was eventually arrested and charged with murder.6
Thousands of ColorOfChange members spoke out against Florida’s “Shoot First” law, which initially shielded George Zimmerman from arrest and prosecution.7 The shadowy lobbying organization the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) — and its deep-pocketed supporters at the National Rifle Association (NRA) — proliferated these laws around the country. Since ColorOfChange began drawing attention to ALEC’s role in crafting these deadly Shoot First laws, 52 corporations and nonprofits and at least 70 state legislators have publicly disavowed any relationship with the group.8
Working together, our movement is a powerful force for change. Please join us in calling for an end to impunity. Demand that the Department of Justice file civil rights charges against George Zimmerman. And when you take action, please ask your family and friends to do the same.
    Thanks and Peace,
–Rashad, Arisha, Matt, Jamar, Aimée and the rest of the ColorOfChange.org team

I had no idea D’ca had so many self haters that actually support a backwards justice system that punish blacks twice as whites. I personally know that blacks in dominica have a inferiority complex when they’re around white people..I hope you guys in D’ca and not in the States,Canada or UK..I hope you guys don’t think you going to get accepted ..LOL

i will say again for those black people tht saying this guy not guilty if it was a black man tht came out from his ride when told not too follow a white kid in a hoodie and shot him dead tht black man would be on death row as we speak. why he follow the kid? thts the question we should be asking when clearly they told him not too is because he was arm with a gun is sell out black people like you guys tht go america and just cry down our race and the white people still treat all of you like dirt and say u are monkeys y’all acting like samuel jackson in django

And you could add black men killing black men too. Do you really believe if Zimmerman did not have a gun he would have followed Trayvon? Do you believe that if Trayvon was white Zimmerman would have followed him and made the statement that they always get away with it? Then tell, me why the hell each member of the jury was white? Is that not racism?

DOJ takes action after Zimmerman verdict
“Obama addressed the nation Sunday after George Zimmerman’s acquittal ignited protests across the US — and then the Justice Department announced it was stepping in.”

Move the federal agency is making

You see Dominicans, it is not all over as of yet, this murderer may eventually get what he deserves, he may still get a life sentence for violating the civil rights of Trayvon Martin.

One will remember when the police officers who butchered the late Rodney King, by beating him mercilessly here in Los Angeles some years ago; and an all white jour set them free; the Federal Government through the Justice Department came in and prosecuted the culprits, convicting them and they all went to jail, the guilty ones that is!

Thats the only comment i can agree with you on for the last yr.i just dont like when you brag about american justice which is currupt. first hands experience.now the feds can get the grand jury to give him a indictment on something very simple and nail him good. thats the feds for you they make the laws and fix it to victory. over 95% of feds cases are convicted.

it has nothing to do with race.zimmerman mentored black kids before.this child is a fighter he got suspended for fighting and i believe he attacked zimmerman and he defended himself.

      July 15, 2013

Mentoring black kids to atop someone from being racist/prejudice. There are interracial couples who do not like their partner race.Deflection argument, He got suspend so that gave Zimmerman right to stalk and kill him right?

    • Anonymous
      July 15, 2013

How was he defending himself? He was asked not to get out of his car and not follow the kid, but he did.
Zimmerman was the aggressor and because he is a wanna be cop with a gun, he felt he had the power over a black male using a woody.

America is full of racism and the US has failed young Martin. The blood of this young man lies on these jurors.

so let me get this straight…a wanna be cop(neighborhood watch) saw someone and followed him against advice not to. so trayvon is justified in fighting and smashing the zimmer guy head on the concrete pavement??? really???? you do realise that zimmerman did so many things wrong, but none of which were illegal right… try taking race out of the picture.

linda dont be stupid. my history teacher was racist. He even went as far as kicking me out of class cause i said it was a black man that invented the stop light.so what your point.

      July 15, 2013

An apparently innocent person with no experience of a varied culture and country were racism has played a key role in the formulation of that society can only speak through a limited eyes, and I understand. I was stopped and frisked because I fit the description of a person walking uptown while in fact I was walking downtown – by NYPD. These are the experiences faced when you are black in a Northern City like New York City ( I was lucky). In Florida, they just gun you down and then the police give the shooter a ride home because he killed a black.

If he fought Zimmerman, then who followed who… Who the hell is scared with a gun in his hands…Linda come on, I have a tooth pick and I feel bad (muchless) for a cutlass. A gun, I man big and bad and I not screaming.

the colour of Trayvon’s skin played a major role in that case and it is sad. I think every step should be taken to get just for Trayvon’s family, however their is a God who knows exactly what happen that evening. My prayers are with the family of the deceased, hold strong.

This isn’t about blacks versus what ever other color. It is time you wake up. There are many blacks killing blacks. This is about how to create division among people and get them at each others throats. That way the government can take over and institute martial law…….on the way to complete fascism. Quit falling for the game plan.

    • July 15, 2013

That is not true, blacks are not worse than other colors; however, I do not think justice was served in this case. The scenario was too obvious, this man is guilty.

not often i heard limited jurors on a murder case. and to my surprise they deliberate very short.
zimmerman now has to go in hiding. and the jurors i would deal with them for mishandling this verdict

    • July 15, 2013

No one has to go into hiding. In that case, in my opinion, one juror would be enough because this was a clear cut case. If George had listened to the dispatcher who asked him to not follow Trayvon, stayed in his vehicle, Trayvon would be alive today.

We need PEACE, GOD IS AWAKE.

    • natiwel

Not only the jurors were up to their tricks. As I viewed it, the whole case was a sham. If the blacks did not kick up a stink it would never have gone to court. There was no intention to prosecute. I thought jurers had to be peers. They were all as far removed from Trayvon a human being could be. Even the judge’s face as she waited for the official verdict confirmed my suspicion. Look at the video again. Dem ppl planned and executed their not guilty verdict.

Unbelievable that he was found not guilty. I visualize the disappointment of his family and the entire US black community.
I heard part of the prosecutor’s deliberation. I really thought that Zimmerman would be found guilty. The jury is racist.
Zimmerman left his home and followed the teenager. Then he lied stating that it was self-defense. The young man was minding his business on his way home when he was attacked by Zimmerman, a racist. God will take care of him. Before that, some US person will for they are angry at the verdict. He better watch his steps.
I expect with the urging of civil rights leaders the US Federal government will pursue charges.
Those leaders and other groups will not rest until charges are brought against that racist. This time I hope he will not escape. The poor guy did not stand a chance against that racist.
