Chikungunya — a tropical disease with a funny name that packs a wallop like having your bones crushed — has finally taken up residence in the United States.

Ever since the first local transmission of chikungunya was reported in the Americas late last year, health officials have been bracing for the arrival of the debilitating, mosquito-borne virus in the United States.

Just seven months after the first cases were found in the Caribbean, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the first locally acquired case of chikungunya in Florida.

Did anyone read the comments posted under the story on CNN website. That was pure entertainment. Boy people who comment on stories are the same wherever you go. They start with the politics, to claiming that some believe there are no mosquitoes in the US; then to illegal and legal immigrants as the source of the disease entering the US and such prejudice comments against immigrants, as if Americans do not travel?; then somehow they reach on global warming. I had to reread the article to see if the comments were related to the story. Then some say those commenting on DNO are stupid? We ain’t that bad after all.

Chikungunya is traveling. Will it hit Canada next? If only there is a vaccine for it and that it could be contained.
An advice, if this will work. Take Vitamin E tablet, one a day. Also rub yourself with Vit. E Oil. You can Google, the benefit of Vitamin E as well as Vitamin E Oil.

DNO – your headline is a bit misleading. Its suggests the first case ever as opposed to the first case acquired on US soil.

After reading the linked article I understood what your headline meant but not conveyed.

Of course I understand that Headlines ought not be long but this headline did not adequately covey an accurate message.

THANKS for the article though!! CHEERS.

ADMIN: We did notice the error and had it changed. Thanks.
