The Chinese teach Obama lessons on the Caribbean

The American president and his Chinese counterpart

Whoopee President Obama is going back to Latin America to attend another regional conference the Sixth Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia on April 14 …..

……. that will bring nothing new from Obama for the Caribbean and Latin America except more of the usual talk about security and drugs. Especially when it comes to the Caribbean aspect of Latin America its always about drugs and security. Never about investing, entrepreneurship and a true partnership for a bright future.

And it never includes Cuba at all.

    Good grief :!:

What right does China and Obama have to meddle in the affairs of the Caribbean :?:

They have one thing in common. China and America both know the potential for an even more lucrative tourist and manufacturing industry in the island nations. They are drooling at the mouth as they say to themselves, “I want a piece of that.”

China with its Communist government, and cruel human rights violations should never be trusted. There is a price tag attached to anything significant they give or do for a small developing nation.

America wants to force its left wing amoral lifestyle on the nations of the Caribbean. Abortion and “gay rights” are two examples. This is the last nation on earth any country should take advice from. America is over 10 trillion (US) dollars in debt and teetering on the verge.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill, D.D., Evangelist.

Subway, i still must disagree with your position, althougg i dont believe that america ‘needs’ us, we do provide them ,with one of the best options when it comes to reliable work force. true they could buy the same labor for less else where, but through bad experiences elsewhere, they chose us. And am speaking more so in refrence to the clear harbor debacle. Am not sure if youy heard, but the same company was branched out to our sister misland St.kitts and thats an island that is already very familiar with American companies through the construction and facilitation of the major hotel company ‘The Mariott’. Rumor has it that they were being paid more than the workers here in Dominica( which suffice to say, did not sit too well with the workers here),they got to enjoy more holidays and time off than the workers here in DA as well, and do you know what happened? they lost the company, the Americans pulled out and are still here on our island. Clear Harbor is excelling even more than ever. they are getting even more contracts from other huge telecommunications companies. Reason? despite all the negatives that is reported, our workforce is reliable enough to sustain the expectations of the american partners. So you are correct that the americans dont ‘need’ us…but when we get our people to commit to the task at hand, we do well in selling ourselves and even if its a little bit… we impress them enough for them to remain here, on our island, DOMINICA, continuosly employing, and paying huge somes of money in taxes to our government. 8)

No country better epitomises what is wrong with this complex game of politics than the Americans, the Chinese economy is hungry for raw materials they currently control half of the black continent and have now move their sights on the Caribbean, we blacks would be naïve to think their much welcome investments are because they love us. The old Chinese proverb says who gives will want something in return.

Dominica is a bless and beautiful country, GOD have given us so much in this country. The chinese are there because they have a plan to take over the whole world in due time, and they beleive where a country have lots of water and land it is fertile and bless. So dominicans beleive that also, see the blessing of water, we can’t live without it.Our creole saying(pa ke to yo pou dominik hord nou. Dominicans hold on to our culture, this is what makes us strong as a people, some of the other islands has already sold there culture to foreingners and they have become weak. So please i beg you hold on to our culture, without it we are nothing. I can’t wait to come back home through the grace of GOD. peace and love to all my fellow dominicans.

It’s up to our diplomatic corps and heads of state to help change the narrative on Latin America and the Caribbean from drugs and security, to sustainable development. Capable diplomats are skillful in this regard, and it is their duty to help advance the vision of their respective nations.

Atleast the money we beg for and get should be spent in such a way that it coiuld benifit usin the long run..for example build industries where we can create employment and earn a livelihood for ourselves, which would make us self dependance. so we dont have to beg all the time.

It’s rather unfortunate that the US has always taken Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)for granted. President Obama can’t make any bold or positive move that would change the current US policies towards LAC. He’s just not capable. America’s attitude and interests in the region are pathetic, it has ignored the the region for too long now, causing the Chinese to gain considerable influence and an eventual take over in the near future.

    • Obviously
      April 14, 2012

If China takes over the Caribbean it’ll be the Caribbean countries’ faults, not the fault of the US! If the LAC countries were worried about Chinese take over, they could…stop accepting favors from the Chinese government, or put strict qualifications on those favors, regardless of the actions of the US.

The wealth that the Chinese businessmen and women have taken away from the region, is nothing compared to what their government have invested or spent.

Of course, the US’s main concern in the Caribbean region is the international drug trade. Why would it care about anything else so much? The drug trade REALLY affects the US in a lot of ways. Considering Dominica’s recent problems with violent crime, reducing the drug trade through this region will also help this society.

China can give all the money it wants–no drugs from S. America are reaching China in huge amounts so China doesn’t need to spend millions or billions of dollars preventing drug traffic through here–but I guarantee that in doing so, China is also “looking out for their own interests.” Also: Remind me how building residences for government officials and a bunch of cricket stadiums creates long-lasting jobs that increase the welfare of the societies receiving them? It’s a lot of show, and for show, and in return China is getting/will get plenty. Nothing is free.

all countries just like human beings look out first for their own interests OK.. “blogger-obviously” i took difference to your statement about china building on behalf of many islands cricket stadiums, residencial buildings and chinese opening small/med shops on these islands including dom and stlucia.. LET me ask u … has america ever done this for us in the caribbean china in my view has almost spent as much as america has spent in recent times in the region … SO if china sticks around for another 10 yrs then we are to expect alot more financial aid..
IN ST LUCIA CHINA also built a modern mental health institution although incomplete at the time due to elections and change of gov.. ITs true that we have alot more significant american investment on account of american business ventures ..but china as a gov is doing a whole lot more than the gov of usa has done in so many areas SO STOP KNOCKING DOWN THE HANDS THAT FEEDS U..and Cbean HAS nothing significant to offer CHINA … the little oil trinidad has and sugar plantations of jamaic/barb is only sufficient for a small town in one of chinese provinces..

 America, what a political system!

Our Caribbean leaders must grow some balls and tell America NO!

Americans need us more than ever. We speak English and there are cultural similarities in that investors such as Clear Harbor invest in our country to cut expenses in their country.

The Caribbean is gaining an upper hand and soon America will not be the dream land everyone wants to reside.

When the Islamic demographics dominate Europe, the politics of the world will change. The white supremacy will fall flat on its face and America will have to reckon with the Muslims.

    • Subway
      April 15, 2012

I hear you on you comment that Clear Harbour needs us, Let me correct you here, these investors don’t need us,”Dominica”, there are many other countries who offer the same things Dominica offers at much cheaper prices and their people’s attitude to outside investors are much better. Take a look at Jamaica and how the ICT sector has grown, aren’t most of the islands in the caribbean competing with the same natural resources and most probably terrain. Come on if we have anyone to blame its England. If we were under America we would not be left to wonder what is the next move. Take a good look at the USVI, Puerto Rico, all US affiliated. Maybe instead of going independent we should have found a way to ask the french to adopt us, that would have made much more sense.

      @ Muslim

When Islamic dominates Europe…? Yea, this is why they migrate all over the world. Those governments should be aware of that and their motives.
Are you God? That will be the day. Do not be presumptuous. One day Islam will fall for it was not established by our God Almighty. The only sad part is that it will continue to play havoc in the world but one day Our Heavenly Almighty Father will put a stop to it. Time will tell. You will experience it.

      • July 6, 2015

Islam will reach its potential growth. It will level off for a while, and fall.

No religion that tramples on equality, and treats women in such an ungodly and cruel manner is going to win. To win you must have the majority of the people. To begin with approx. 50% of the people in most countries are female. A good percentage of the male population in many nations are committed Christians, or they love their wives and daughters too much to give way to Islam.

In Canada we have thousand of women who have fled from Islamic counties to find a better life. Here they can get an education, enter the professions, or get government jobs along with their brothers. They don’t fear honor killings, female circumcision, or any of the other Islamic horrors. They can answer the door without a veil over their face, and walk to the corner store without a male relative escorting them.

Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill, D.D., Evangelist.

      • July 6, 2015

God has not deeded Europe to a religion called Islam even though they may gain an upper hand in some countries for a while.

Islam will not rule the earth because they do not know and serve the “God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob” who unknown to them is also “the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”.

He is also “…the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, … …” (Hebrews 13:20)

God has destined this man – the God Man – to put all His enemies under His feet and eventually rule the earth. The Holy Scriptures tell us … …

“Wherefore God also hath highly exalted HIM, and given HIM a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, … … … And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11)

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

Leaning on someone and jumping on their back with all your weight are two differnt things. America assists countries primarily in times of crisis. It is enough. Let Dominican politicians think of creative ways outside of taxes and BEGGING to develop the country. Smaller islands than us do it..ask Barbados. Sloth is one of the 7 deadly sins.

i like what i hear .. we as a english region are a bunch of beggers .. dont mind all the pomp and ceremony esp when it comes to border control and how we treat our fellow cbean ppl who visit various islands esp at the airports…just one hurricane category 3/4 only one hurricane .. have any island no matter who be it trinidad or barbados to start queuing on the begging line ..asking for help and money…

how many islands have disaster based financial reserves if they face a natural disaster ?? are there any special helicopters that are equipped to curtail forest fires/escaped convicts or illegal drugs farmlands or stockhouses in mountain regions.. are there any of that in place in any island …ask yourself that

      • July 6, 2015

I am not qualified to answer this question. But it should be looked into by qualified island people.

Large foreign businesses are making money from the island. Some token of appreciation is to be expected in exchange for the privilege of doing business there. If it was done once a year it would be no loss to the business while blessing the people of the island.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.

    • Justice and Truth
      April 16, 2012

      @ I hear You

The banks and merchants of all should assist. Those foreign banks of all send their money to their countries and invest it in the foreign exchange in those lands.
There should be a condition for those foreigners who open businesses, as banks, in the islands. The government should make them contribute to the improvement of the islands.
Barclay’s and Royal Banks have been in DA for years. There is also Scotiabank. What have they done in the form of improvement for Dominica? This is worth contemplating on.

      • July 6, 2015

        Absolutely right!

We know the Royal and Scotia are two of Canada’s largest banks. They bring in massive profits every year. I am not familiar with Barclay’s. These two banks could without setting themselves back sponsor one small project on the island each year. Over the span of a decade they would make a significant difference in the country. It would likely result in their own growth.

Maybe this is already being done. If so, good for them! But during my trips into the Caribbean the impression I received is that how they can contribute to the nation is not a big concern for most of the foreign businesses that are allowed to operate there.

        Sincerely, Rev. Donald Hill. Evangelist.
