IOM hosts Migration Management workshop in Dominica

Trainees and Trainers in session

The Essentials of Migration Management training held by IOM, UN Migration hosted from September 28- 30, in Dominica, is the IOM’s flagship programme designed to promote Migration Management, says facilitator Fiorella Vargas.

According to Vargas, the aim of the training was for participants to learn how migration intersects with key policy areas, as well as how the global framework is relevant to their work.

The hope is to increase the capacity for the management of migration and governance.

Vargas also expressed confidence in the improvement of communication between ministries, and a generally beneficial impact on the lives of migrants.

Meantime, participant Neon Charles affirmed the training as “very informative”.

Further, he expressed a key takeaway as a better understanding of the various reasons why people migrate, whether for forced political reasons or simply a better life.

Charles, in his estimation, sees the projected benefits of the EMM programme as the ability to, “better.. understand and be more sensitive towards migrants.”
