President of the United Workers Party (UWP), Isaac Baptiste is appealing to Dominican voters to “punish” the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) by voting it out of office.
Baptiste was speaking at the UWP Eastern Zone Rally in Laplain on Sunday, where the party met to present its strategic plan for rural development.
“This incumbent government (DLP) has made too many of our people dependent. They took away our livelihood on purpose. We must punish them, we must vote them out. We must ensure that the United Workers Party sweep the East with your overwhelming support,” Baptiste told supporters.
The UWP president said that the elevated marketing and sale of Dominica’s passport as the main source of revenue for the present Government, has set the stage for for destruction of livelihood in rural communities and has prolonged the economic situation in the country.
“The Government chose to promote dependency over productivity, hand out and lately, “cool out” instead of sustainable jobs, food importation over food security. Lies and promises instead of truth, performance and good governance,” he stated.
According Baptiste, under the leadership of Lennox Linton, the UWP will reverse the negative trends that have affected Dominica.
“With experience, competence, skills, mixed with commitment, love and foresight, the United Workers Party Team Dominica’s program to restore and sustain livelihood in our villages and hamlets will focus on agriculture, protection and enhancement of the natural environment, establishment of efficient inter-settlement communication between Petit Savanne, Delices, Rosalie and Petite Soufriere link road to increase trading among the communities; to modernize Local Government legislation, to empower communities to select their leaders and manage their local affairs, free from Central Government”.
Baptiste said for the east and rural Dominica to grow again, “we must ensure that Skerrit Family Party is politically erased in the east”.

Candidate for the Castle Bruce Constituency, Ernie Jno-Finn told the hundreds of UWP supporters who attended the rally that she wants to make her community “shine” and promised that she will work to make that happen, “when you vote me into office.”
Jno Finn said she believes that her constituency is greatly underutilized and that she insisted, must be corrected. She said the crossing over of Loreen Bannis-Roberts from the UWP camp to the DLP camp cost the Castle Bruce constituency greatly.
“Like you, that selfish crossing over cost me, my family and community a lot, while it benefited one person and her family tremendously,” she stated. “How has our constituency progressed since that crossing? How many students have been admitted to top universities? How many of us from Castle Bruce, Good Hope, San Sauveur, Petit Soufriere, Dipas, Tronto and Mopo are doing better on account of that crossing?”
Another speaker at the rally was Rosana Emmanuel, UWP candidate for the Petite Savanne Constituency. She highlighted the efforts of rural women, particularly in agriculture. Emmanuel promised that when it is voted into office, her government will make resources available to the National Council of Women for training and development of women.

Under workers government workers were suffering as the were not been paid on time. Merchants were not been paid for goods and services supplied to government. Government was not pay social security deducted from workers salary to the social security fund. Imagine it took Ross 40 yrs to become something great here but it only took Skerrit 14 yrs to send them parking. Mr. Isaac Baptiste has the right to use a UWP platform to make any pronouncement that he wishes to make and that must be repected, but the only thing that is wrong about his utterance, is that he made it at the point when the Dominica Labour Party is picking up momentum and is poise to regaining power for the next five years.
