IsraAID donates two-way radio equipment to Caritas Dominica

Youth recipients of ham radio donations

As part of efforts “to build resilience with its ongoing support of local organisations”, IsraAID Dominica recently provided two-way radio equipment to Caritas Dominica to bolster its Youth Emergency Action Committees (YEAC) initiative.

On Saturday, August 17, 2024, a group of twenty-five young individuals were awarded their Amateur Radio Licences along with personal handheld radios. These volunteers have participated in extensive radio communication training over the past few months.

Furthermore, ten individuals received training and certification as instructors in first aid and CPR. Caritas serves as the social action charity of the Roman Catholic Church in Dominica. The Youth Emergency Action Committees initiative is funded by USAID/BHA and is being carried out by Caritas Dominica, focusing on equipping youth with skills in emergency response, disaster preparedness, mitigation, and risk reduction.

Additionally, Caritas Dominica received the necessary equipment to establish a base station. This setup will facilitate effective communication among members and with relevant authorities during emergencies when conventional communication methods may fail, thereby enabling them to better assist their communities.

This contribution is part of a continuing collaboration between IsraAID Dominica and Caritas Dominica, established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed earlier this year. Under this collaboration, members of the Youth Emergency Action Committees (YEAC) took part in training for water filtration.

Mrs. Mahalia Paul, Project Manager of the Youth Emergency Action Committees, remarked, “The collaborative partnership between IsraAID and Caritas Dominica has borne much fruit over the past few months significantly boosting the capacity of the YEAC project and further empowering and building confidence among our youth and young adults.”

IsraAID Community Mobiliser, Ms. Annel Lewis, spoke of the importance of developing and mastering ham radio operation in young people.

“The equipment donated is indeed a crucial investment, particularly when it comes to communication during disasters. It not only enhances the ability to stay connected in critical situations but also plays a significant role in community education and preparedness. Encouraging young people to learn and master ham radio skills is especially valuable. It ensures the continuity of these important communication techniques and helps build a knowledgeable network of individuals who can contribute to emergency response efforts in the future,” she noted.

IsraAID initiated its first humanitarian mission to Dominica in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in September 2017. Since then, IsraAID Dominica has been actively involved in various sectors, including disaster preparedness, education, and livelihood support across the nation.

Senior Engineer of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC), Mr. George James, in addressing the recipients, said, “What is happening here today is a testament to the gifts and potential that our young people have and are putting to good use in this country. You now have your licence and equipment, I encourage you to use that as a springboard to a possible career. Take advantage of what you now have and keep your licence up to date.”

First you have to condemn the USA for giving Israel billions of dollars in military aid every year. That is the same USA you want to remove the Dominica Labour Party from office. There are UWP supporters in the USA who have paid hundreds of thousands in taxes, from which arms and ammunition are bought and given to Israel to murder innocent men, women and children. The only people who support what is happening to the Palestinians are the Dominican christians, supported by the blue rattlesnake pastor..The government of Dominica has strongly condemned it.One person who have condemned it with anger is MEME.Go talk to your friends Rodney and Jack, ask them if they support what Israel is doing to the Palestian people.Jack a.

And this is why our government will never condemn Israel. We like too much freeness. Instead, they will talk their spineless rhetoric and say “we just wish for a peaceful amicable solution blablabla” but never openly condemn Israel for their atrocious genocide being carried out right before our eyes day by day. Thank you for the free radio though, even though we should be able to afford one ourselves if only our leaders would manage our finances properly. So alone we can survive here, by handouts. Shame. I rather catch my own fish than wait for a man to feed me. Thats how things were before the DLP came around. Dominicans did for themselves and their communities. We didnt have to wait for government or donors to do anything for us.

FREENESS causing us to take with our eyes closed and our minds not working while the tendency to jeopardizing our people and others exists. Hurricane Maria came or whatever disaster that these people came to Dominica, and they never left.

Dominica as a country are you supporting the two-party state solution to the peace process in Palestine? Are you the politicians and people following international news concerning Gaza Strip, the suffering of the Palestinian people and the role Israel plays in this? If so you need to reconsider your entanglement with this organization.

IsraAID members ALL OF THEM HAVE MILITARY training and experience which means intelligence gathering. See how countries supporting what they call anti-Israel actions are treated?. The country Israel is supporting them globally and looking after its people ALL JEWS globally. THE PALESTINIAN CAUSE. Palestine people are looked down on as inferior and Israel people as superior -ZIONISM.

Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 4 Thumb down 0
