ITSS progresses to next round of debate competition

Akilah Baron and Camiley Casimir of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary school (ITSS)

Akilah Baron and Camiley Casimir of the Isaiah Thomas Secondary School (ITSS) earned a place in the second round of the inter-secondary schools debate competition when winning the last debate in the first round of the competition.

The ITSS accumulated 685 points with Akilah Baron taking the ward for best speaker.

They went up against the Dominica Community High School (DCHS) which was represented by Dexter Jno Baptiste and Sierah-Lyn Joseph.  The DCHS amassed 355 points.

The topic was “Dominica needs to sacrifice some of its forests in order to develop substantially.”

The ITSS opposed and the DCHS proposed.

During the debate, the St. Martin Scondary School and SMA were also present and shared their views along with others during the discussion period.

Many were of the view that some of the island’s forest should be sacrificed to allow more infrastructure such as factories and malls to be built while others felt that the country is already in debt and should improve in other areas such as marine life.
