Roseau South MP and deputy leader of the opposition United Workers Party (UWP), Joshua Francis, flanked by top executive members of his party, held a press conference on Monday denying accusations leveled against him in a divorce petition filed by his wife.
“Today, my wife, through dangerous lawyers, has filed a political divorce petition which has been deliberately leaked and caused to go viral on social media. This is the works and unceasing efforts of dangerous political ‘enemies’ who used my wife’s petition as a shield to protect their own and as a sword to dishonor my name,” Francis stated.
He said the latest “unprecedented” leak and release on social media comes on the heels of the leak and release of an email purported to be authored by his wife.
“Also, my accuser’s statement in the famous case of inappropriate behavior was leaked and caused to go viral in 2016. This public parade of materials, true or fake, cannot be normal or natural! And this cannot be allowed to become the new norm…how long will the other side go to feast with the darkness of the world?,” the Roseau South MP asked.
Francis said he entered the political arena in June, 2013, and “my family was right there with me; my beautiful wife and my two blessed children are indeed the blessings of my life.”
He continued, “Today, my family is separated and my good name has been under ferocious and consistent attack. My service to our nation has resulted in profound personal losses as opposed to personal gains, just the opposite to the players on the other side.”
Francis said when he signed-up to serve the nation, he expected it to have been “tough, and demanding, but not dangerous and malicious for the wrong reasons”.
“I have been dealt with a severe bout of prosecution and persecution. I have been referred to by all manner of unclean names. Some even try to discard me with untrue legal tags even without any criminal charge ever been read to me in any part of our globe, far less for a criminal trial and/or conviction,” he complained.
“The constant malicious, unwarranted and evil attacks against me have come from all angles. The greatest plot to destroy my good name and reputation is rooted in a sexual scandal of 2016; inflamed attacks after attacks, with the most dangerous of all the attacks directed at my family to secure its disintegration by the very ones who go home to their families each day,” he lamented.
“How could you, in good conscience, preside over the destruction of my family? How could anyone gloat over the separation of my family as a victory to score political points? How could anyone rejoice when families fall apart? Where is the soul of the Dominica Labor Party?” he asked.
He continued, “Since the famous sex Scandal of 2016, my wife and I have gone through enormous emotional, mental, and psychological pressure for which I take full responsibility; resulting in my lovely wife being ill-advised to fight against me, not realizing that such a fight is against herself and our precious children. I plead to her to publicly to reconsider her actions and inactions-for I am not the enemy.”

Change to this confusion and subterfuge? Even when I am dissatisfied with someone or something in my personal life, I weigh the odds of changing. I look at all the ramifications and then decide whether to stay with the unsatisfactory situation or take my chances with a new one.
I look at the situation and action of all sides particularly post hurricane maria and I shudder to think of what would have happened had the change occurred before that. No indication of any action that might have been taken to bring us out of that desperate situation post Maria. Same bickering and attacks and posturing. Not a hand to help one constituent, at least none publicly visible. What!

I will say and continue to say that we must be careful when we are airing these things to be careful when it comes to not implicate the victims and family members. I said the same with all others. That said, I am very very disappointed in Mr. Francis for what he did. I now understand why he supported Mr. Blackmoore; which again I do not know it is true because of the lack of evidence that the accusers fail to present with a lawyer, knowing that he had this on his plate. Mr. Francis, you should not have made this public, I always say what is made public will be subjected to all types of scrutiny, judgments, and comments, and Mr. Francis, you have thrown the mother of your children to the wolves. Divorce is not a big deal these days; the simplest form is be filing on the grounds of irreconcilable differences: ” irreconcilable ” (impossible to reconcile);once that is done there is nothing more to go into a court and argue. If there are assets such as Real Estate to be divided; anything that was acquired during the marriage must be divided fifty-fifty; even money in a bank account, if there is one dollar in the account each person gets fifty cents!
Anything the person acquired prior to the marriage remains their personal property. Where children are involved one may retain full custody, the other parent must have visitation rights, unless it is otherwise determined.

Mr. Francis, I feel your pain and empathize with you as someone who was married and then went through a divorce. There is a saying that if you love a bird don’t keep it caged but set it free and if it’s meant for you it will come back to you. Only those who have been through a divorce know how cruel the process can be – far more cruel and difficult to cope with than death – especially for the children of the marriage. All too often the children are used as pawns and a means of inflicting pain. And all too often, a lawyer capitalizes on the situation and makes a difficult situation even worse.

I love and support Hon. Joshua Francis but at this time he is not fit for office. He needs to humbly go home and take care of his house before he takes care of the parliament. Dominica is in a very sad state and we need Hon men and women, with good report to help restore our country. In my opinion Skerrit, McIntyre, Blackmore, St. Jeanne, Joshua Francis and Spags John, should all resign or be fired from our office. I want to see married men and women that are honest, faithful, well respected and above reproach in our parliament. Let’s put it this way, if Skerrit and Co. had only a shred of evidence they would have used by now and Joshua would have been dragged before court. It was my intention to refrain from commenting on Joshua’s ordeal pertaining to his marital problems, simply because I’m not privy to know the personal and private affairs in his household and it would be irrational to make a judgment based on what is said in the public arena by one party of the Marriage, but when you said, quote “Francis is squeaky clean but Blackmoore is not and all you Labourites know it ” I had to reply to your comment. How do you know Francis is squeaky clean, were you privy to the private and personal affairs taking place at his home. As to you proclaiming Blackmoore guilt, where is the evidence to suggest that such alleged crime took place. How can you have an alleged crime committed without a victim coming forward. Evil does not disappear by what you think and believe with your ludicrous mindset.
Listen, I’m not in the habit to get involved with people that either support Skerrit, his ministers or another operative of the DLP with their corrupt behaviour. I am sure as the night follows the day that one or two people will one day feel the pain of having their character dragged through the mud by an enemy which they are unable to identify and challenge.
For all who are enjoying the discomfort of others accused by people who don’t have the courage to show their faces, things have a way of coming round. When we would have satisfied our sadistic desires to destroy people, we will reap a whirlwind harvest of the fruits of our perverted behaviour.
Young people are going to know nothing more than the mauvais lang upon which we fed them. Human life is going to become meaningless to them and we have begun to see the callous cold blooded killing already surfacing.
Older and more vulnerable people will be objects to be preyed upon with the verbal ridicule we heap on them as they seek help. etc. etc. Guess who will have to deal with it?

I keep praying that one day you people will exhibit some kind of rational behaviour which will encourage fence sitters or even those on the other side to get even a slight inclination to be sympathetic to your views and methods of operation. My prayer continues to go unanswered.
What does Skerrit have to do with evidence in this situation? Are you in a position to say that the man’s wife, the daughter of two prominent lawyers is spreading vicious rumours about a person with whom she took vows in church and has borne children?
Why don’t you all try to assist the young man, a nice person at heart to turn his life around instead of encouraging him to make a spectacle of himself yet again? it is almost as if you read a different story from what I read and everywhere the man’s wife made a point, the name Skerrit was substituted.
