Kalinago Chief Williams makes his case for re-election

Kalinago Chief Charles Williams is asking for a second chance to complete unfinished business

Current Chief of the Kalinago Territory Charles Williams has decided to make himself available for re-election at the upcoming Kalinago Chief Elections.

He said that this decision came about based on popular demand and incomplete initiatives which his office has been working on for the betterment of the Kalinago community.

Williams said although the last term was filled with challenges they were able to undertake several initiatives which were generally aimed at enhancing the quality of life of the people.

He said his accomplishments during his term include the provision of basic tools and supplies to several residents under a GEF funded programme,  the very first edition of the Kalinago Cultural Festival which he considers to be one of the greatest achievements of his office and the signing of an MOU with Murphy International which will result in significant viable economic projects for the Kalinago Community.

Midway during his term, Hurricane Maria struck and according to Chief Williams, affected most of the plans which his office  was working on and some which were nearing the implementation phase.

Williams said if he is elected for a new term, he intends to aggressively pursue the work he has already started with Murphy International which includes the development of a model farm in Touna, assist in the establishment of the Kalinago Development Corporation and the establishment of the Kalinago Cultural Festival as a flagship tourism product.

“Also, the development of the Kalinago Territory as a model of community tourism is also one of my priorities as we seek to enhance the tourism product in the Kalinago Territory,” Williams stated.

Williams, who is serving his second term as Kalinago Chief, said the upcoming election is critical for the indigenous community, and encourages all of the Kalinago people to take the election of the Kalinago Chief seriously and vote for representation, “not for those who have no or limited experience in representing people or those who do not have the fortitude to stand up on their behalf when the opportunity demands nothing less.”

As intoxicating as power can be, there comes a tome that we have to part with it and allow new blood to take over. Anyone who wants to overstay his time in office is usually up to little good. Give an opportunity to others who are willing and able and have the necessary skills, tools and the wherewithal to bring about a progressive change. We need proactive and transformative leadership to bring out the best in our people to advance themselves and advance the development of the country forward.

What i want is for the Kalinago Chief to be the ONLY “Parl Rep” and highest official and representative of the Kalinago people. As it stands, it seems that the Parl Rep has more power and influence over his people than their chief. When Columbus came to Dominica, it was the Chief who was in charge, not any other representative. I believe the chief should be the who the government should approach, initially whenever anything Kalinago is concerned. And that Chief should be part of every government administration. what i mean is if while he is the chief, the government changes, whether under linton pappy skerrit or vidal, he is the parl rep and chief of his people. end of story. He goes to parliament, and is treated like a noble/ambassador/royalty as the head of the first people of our nation.

Chief Charles Williams, I truly hope that Carib Chief is elected and in office soon, I mean very soon, ike in 5 days time. You all must now go get your councillors as you all have work to do , therefore need full membership asap. So go get sworn in and attend to the business of the Carib people and the Kalinago Territory.
Please be united, prepared, review, research, have well designed plan for your work in the next three years. That must be a comprehensive Plan that is workable and implementable.
The Frederick Brothers have served well and have been around and served as chief and councillors, so with some level experience can still contribute. However try to focus on having new blood, new people, the youth for example to serve and that they will gain experience early in life.

Chance is a gamble. Running a business or organization is not like playing the lottery. TRUTH BE TOLD.

Kid one must ask what is the motive or attitude behind the age discrimination of un-truth be liar. Dominica is a democracy where all Dominicans can vote or offer themselves for any elections. We see the dictatorial attitude expressed by a uwp mobster trying to fake authority and tell people what to do.

We see their age discrimination of the speaker and Mamie. Is this a new prospective of the tim tim gang. But what should we say about Linton ? Can we sing Sparrow’s calypso…”.Old timer you done , your sailing days are gone clear the way let we pass “….Lin-scam-ton.

Not all dominicans can vote fella. the constitution provides for which dominicans can and cannot vote. for example, you need to be above a certain age to vote. you need to have been in the country for a certain amount of time in order to be eligible. And a few other criteria. so because you are a dominican, that doesnt automatically entitle you. if so, preschoolers would be voting. and people who left the island at birth and never returned would be voting. you also have to be registered to vote. lets not forget that.

Enough of the “same old “ BS” political rhetoric from expired office holders. Dominica needs a complete political purge from all political appointees who served under the Dr Dr and stayed moomoo when things went horribly wrong. At this point the chief would better his people by stepping aside and advocating for TOTAL change in the interest of our original inhabitants. Long live my ancestors!

I think the chief can step aside and let the young ppl take up the mantle, he can guide them in that respect but, it is time to give the young ppl a chance.

Thanks for your service chief but, it is time to bow gracefully. 8-O
