Landslide at Dubique

The landslide this morning

There have been reports of a landslide in the Dubique area which residents of the area say occurred about 5.30 this morning.

Information reaching DNO is that the slide has blocked the road and is preventing vehicles from passing.

The Dubique slide comes in the wake of  heavy rains which have been affecting Dominica over the past few days.

A similar slide occurred on the Dubique main road in August last year, leaving a number of people stranded for some time and unable to get to work in Roseau.

DNO is following developments regarding this latest landslide at Dubique and will bring you more information as it becomes available.

This is not a political issue. it’s a safety issue. The ministry or representative responsible for roads in the area are not performing up to par. A backhoe, dump truck and some gasoline for them are all that is needed. Stop feting and do your work sot.

every year is the same rhetoric from black more and government.they will fix the roads and nothing ever happens..i dont know if they are waiting for some people to lose their lives there before they address the problem…and the same people who are affected by the landslides and deplorable road conditions on a daily basis sit there silent and still shouting LABOUR POWER..my parl rep…..sooteewez!! con zor yay!!

Do we have a parl representative for Petite Savanne? This man should be ashamed of himself.Absolutely nothing has been done in the constituency, and it’s no wonder that he is nowhere to be seen.He must be hiding somnewhere in the dubique cliffs. He is nothing more than a puppet of Skerrit, lazy and incompetent. Shame on him!

…for those who know the area…do you know that an alternative inner road has been surveyed since the 50s?…starting from Bascader to end up somewhere after Morne Pyahy…into Stowe…ask the elders.. “Moon en haut” deserve better roads than that. It’s been too long now.

  4. October 20, 2012

I heard that people do not want their land to be used to enlarge the roads, or make changes where changes can be made yet they want better roads. Where should better roads come from? Who pays the owners when landslide occur? Enlargening the roads will not prevent landslides but it will surely enable vehicles to move around the landslides. It will enable drivers to see more clearly where they are going and that would prevent many accidents, except in cases of carelessness.

That’s why the Doctor asked the supremo what’s in the Budget for his constituency and they got heated up . If there was road improvement for his constituency all the rocks and hills would be cut down to prevent such incident or accident so th Parl rep has right to asked but since they told him shout up u not hearing nothing.

i guess when land slide will cover a vehicle GOD forebid , something will be done.thereis an area on that roadd where you can look in a straight line and see the corner at the other end of the cliff yet they have that road entering under the cliff. all they need to do is some reclamation onto the sea ad move that road. there is enough stuff there they want to come and talk about repaving.

I’ve got no partisan and political ties,i don’t vote! But from what i’ve seen in past times, the U.W.P government is the one who has done more for the country, the south and this constituency in a short term in office. The Grandbay high school, the Fabre road and Petite Savanne to Delices road.At the pace that the U.W.P government was going, this road would probably been dealt with already.

      October 19, 2012

My dear this slide is not in Dubique proper. Dubique is a lovely, queit place full of lovely people. The solution to the problem is that the Government needs to divert this road. I am calling on the Parliamentary Representative to rally for us in the house so that come next year we will have a new road.

I would strongly recommend that the cliff be dug away and thrown into the sea which would create some distance from the road about 15 feet to east while backfilling the sea also would create some wave barrier from sea splash. My suggestion.

   :?: The people of this area needs to rise against the government for the road to be diverted or built in another area.It is very risky to the lives of people living in this part of the island having to past beneath this dangerous cliff rain or shine. There’s not an escape route for the people as they have to deal with the ocean coming in,it’s just not an ideal place for commuting. This government has their priorities wrong, instead of a state malice the roads should be given priority.Save the people’s lives! :?:

Well said. I must also add that the people of the constitiuency must free themselves from the self- imposed political slavery, get their heads out of the color “RED”, and start looking out for their children’s future before they’re dead.

I would give you a million thumbs up, this is the most scary area in dominica.

I fear every day that something terrible happens in this area. I can’t believe this people are supporters of the present government

      • Parlay sot
        October 19, 2012

It has been scary for quite a while and past governments did not fix it so what’s your point?

    • T-Savanne
      October 19, 2012

Not just the Labour party. The U.W.P and the Freedom party are to blame also. No one has ever done anything to that road from the time it was built. The engineers that designed and constructed that road must have been crazy or they just did not care.

    • Just Wondering
      October 19, 2012

WAITUKUBULI@ why Edo, Eugenia, OJ and , Pj and Leblanc did not think of diverting the route or building for the people in another area?
Pls stop politizing everything. There is lots of infraustrural work to be done in Dominica- not just roads but in every area, physical and not physical areas tangible and non tangigle. This administration is not perfect but honestly they are doing the best they can particular against the all negativities that come from some people who only critize instead participating in nation development. WAITUKUBULI pls note i will voting for either Rommey or Obama for president but i am a Dominican and i can tell the difference between Dominica now and then. I aslo believe that all leaders that i have mentioned perhaps withthe exceptionof Oj have contributed to Dominica’s infrastructal growth.

@ just asking.., OJ is Oliver SERAPHINE he was our interim Prime Minister from July 1979 to what ever date in 1980. After the down fall of our X Prime Minister Patrick Roland JOHN.

Your comment is so stupid…No wonder the country is not progressing, but is getting poorer. The fact is no other governmet is to be blamed other than the one that has been there for the past 12 years. If you cannot read or write presently in 2012 you will also say that the past government are responsible?. Fact is this evil government is responsible for diverting the road, and they must stop fooling people like you into believing that they care about you when in fact they only care about their pockets.

Can’t agree more. The Government’s eye is closed towards this area of Dominica. I grew up in this area and as a child going to high school in Roseau, we basically had to dock under the waves which were continuosly smashing on the vehicles. Now the biggest issue are the landslides that keep coming down from the cliff. Government needs to initiate a project blasting the cliffs, pushing the sea back. When will we see some development in this area of Dominica. I no longer live in Dominica, however, whenever I return I see development in almost every other area but the south is neglected….It seems Gov’t is waiting until the landslides covers motorist and pedestrians before they do something about it

Ask God to hel[ us get the funding. It was like that Pointe Michel tp Loubiere road. The sea would splash you in the truck. But praise the Lord, the road is no longer like this anymore. So those criticising, can you deal with all your plans? When I see that Cliff, I ask the Lord to send some Donor Agency to help the Government deal with this area and join the road at the corner to the Pierre Charles Boulevard. Let us have faith and pray so this can become a reality.
