Legal fraternity pays tribute to the late Sandra Julien

The late Sandra Julien

The high court in a special sitting via Zoom on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, paid glowing tribute to the registrar of Companies Sandra Julien who died over a week ago at the Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH).

Presiding over the sitting were resident judges Bernie Stephenson and Wynante Adrien-Roberts and heard remarks from former attorney general Henry Dyer, current attorney general Levi Peter, chief magistrate Candia Carette-George, former registrars Evelina Baptiste, Joan K. R. Prevost and Singoalla Blomqvist-Williams, solicitor general Tameka Hyacinth Burton, president of the Dominica Bar Association (DBA) Heather Felix-Evans among others.

Speaker after speaker lauded the work of Sandra Julien describing her as “diligent, calm, respectful, and hard-working.”

Solicitor general Tameka Hyacinth Burton described the late Sandra Julien as “soft-spoken…firm, always courteous and cordial to whatever the task.”

She referred to Julien as a fighter whom she respected and admired.

“Miss Julien was a fighter and I can honestly say that I have never met someone who was so determined. After her first bout of illness, when some of us thought that all was lost, Miss Julien proved us all wrong. She handled her illness with grace and an underlying strength,” Hyacinth- Burton stated,

She said although Juilen’s death has left a void, it has also left a lasting legacy, “a legacy of hard work and strength.”

Chief Magistrate, Candia Carrette-George, was called to the bar 18 years ago, a few days apart from Ms. Julien.

“She was kind and very well-loved by her staff…when I last saw her in February 2020 she spoke about her love for her mom and how her mom would take it. She was warm-hearted,” the chief magistrate said.

Justice Wynante Adrien Roberts described the late Sandra Julien as a great team player, who was “respectful, diligent and calm” and dependable.

“She gave her word and her word was her bond and you would depend on her. She was a public officer par excellence, passionate about her work and always ready to advance the work of the state and that of intellectual property,” Justice Adrien- Roberts stated.

Justice Stephenson urged the family to “take comfort in the Lord” and He will guide them through. She also observed a minutes silence on behalf of the deceased lawyer.

The funeral service will take place today, Wednesday at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and burial at the Roseau Roman Catholic cemetery.

First and foremost my heartfelt sympathy to Mrs Julien and family. God comfort u at this time. Also to the staff of CIPO office and the legal fraternity. Find comfort in the arms of Jesus.
Mais all you guys something wong with u boy! Even in death, you looking to policitize? Hmmmm Lord have mercy on this guys! If you cannot sympathize then say nothing political. It is like u people looking for something to use to unleach your wicked minds just like those overseas using the man’s death to loot (voleur), destroy, burn, kill doing the same thing they condemning. Black people are their own worst enemies as well. I do not condone what the policeman did to the guy. It was heart rendering but look at you two guys -Ibo and Batibou what hypocrisy – love your fellow men first, then you can talk. Always displaying negative talk. You must understand that you cannot do or change anything. There is a bigger one than us all

There is no doubt that Sandra was very ethical and professional. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

It would have been so useful to know her thoughts about the workings of the Court system or how she felt about the state of justice in Dominica.

I am not sure if she had a private law office and it is great that her legal colleagues held her in such high regard. But it would be equally, if not more, important to hear how her CLIENTS felt about her representing them in Court and how she fought for justice.

Law practice should be about justice and doing the right thing. What really is the status of justice in Dominica? Would the DBA be open to making some time to discuss this matter in an open forum?

Deepest sympathy to the family of Ms. Julien. She was showered with praise and adoration by members of the law fraternity. Did they relay such touching and wonderful commendations to her before she took her last breath? The deceased can never appreciate these beautiful, heart-warming sentiments. Let’s give people their flowers while they are living.

My sympathy to the family and friends of Ms. Julien. This is the most useless and toothless organization in Dominica. It seems to be like some typical college frat that just hang out because they share the same profession and drink and socialize. They do nothing to help people know the constitution and constitutional rights. Not even one debate on revising or updating constitution to keep up with time and the changes. Not one word on the snail pace of cases and the need for judicial expediency, not one word on the importance of maintaining democracy and the integrity of the government system. Not one injunction when the constitution is violated by those in high office, and the list goes on. Some are more busy selling passports and getting rich because they think they can. If the country not productive all of them try work for gov and become simply a cost to the country. Tell me how this fraternity help stimulate growth in Dominica. You guys need reflect on purpose in society.

The attendants of this meeting is a who is who of the legal department of the cabal. Worse, they are supposed to deliver justice to the country and the citizens but all we get is injustice and bias towards that Red Party and it’s leaders. I grief for my country!
