The Leo Club of Dominica will host the first-ever Junior Calypso Bouyon Monarch Competition for Mas Domnik 2023.
Eamon Gibbons of the Leo Club made the announcement during the official launching ceremony of Mas Domnik 2023 held at Petit Miami (formerly Anchorage Hotel) on Friday.
Carnival activities will begin on the 14th of January 2023.
“The Leo Club has seen it fit to incorporate bouyon music into the competition in an effort to promote bouyon music among youth in Dominica,” Gibbons said.
According to him, participants will compete in two rounds.
“The first round will be the calypso competition and the second round bouyon competition,” he explained.
With this in mind, Gibbons revealed that the organizers hope to facilitate a bouyon mentorship program for the participants.
“Thus the club will be seeking assistance from the bouyon artistes to serve as mentors to the Junior Bouyon Monarch participants as it is done for the calypso monarch competitions,” he stated.
Participating schools are being asked to send two representatives, one for each round.
Furthermore, Gibbons indicated that registration of participants is still open.
For more information, one can contact the Leo Club or its members on their social media pages.
Additionally, he said the Signal Band will be the official band for the Junior Calypso Bouyon Monarch Competition.
The full calendar of events for Mas Domnik 2023, and the official sashing of Miss Dominica 2023 formed part of the official launch of Dominica’s Carnival 2023.
All you busy with Mas Dominik 2023 while the dictator puts the final nail in Dominicas coffin? Says a lot about the people of DA. Getting one’s priorities right, I guess. Shameful, absolutely shameful!
I like that, time to move on from calypso/Soca and encourage promote OUR own from youth stage. Next we teach music in our schools.
