LIAT to increase flights into Dominica

LIAT will increase flights into Dominica from October through the winter season.

Tourism Minister, Senator Robert Tonge made the announcement while delivering remarks during the official launch of the 2019 Independence Celebrations held on Tuesday.

“The Ministry of Tourism and Discover Dominica Authority [DDA] would like to announce increased flights from LIAT into Dominica from October 8, 2019, and through the winter season. LIAT will increase the number of flights to Dominica by 3 flights per week,” he said.

Tonge indicated that flights will be on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and will create an additional 144 seats per week into Dominica.

“This increases our capacity through LIAT to a total of 28 flights and 1244 seats per week,” the minister stated.

He stated that the flights originating from Barbados will allow connections through Barbados from the USA and also Canada.

“This also comes at the right time for our locals and also for our visitors coming into Dominica not only for Independence but for the new hotels that are opening and very importantly, for the World Creole Music Festival (WCMF),” he added.

Mr. Tonge, your claim that these new flights will allow connections from the U.S.A. and Canada is somewhat tenuous since it would require an overnight stay in Barbados. Sources at LIAT inform me that the daily 08.50 direct flight from Barbados to Antigua will merely be diverted three times a week to take in Dominica. I assume a lot of the passengers will be those, who
use that morning flight to go to Antigua anyway, albeit it now with a stop in Dominica. Is it true that we have to make a contribution for these extra flights, at least forego airport fees as it is rumoured?

There is nothing here to crow about. It’s a vexing issue and a damning indictment of the current government that Dominica infrastructural development lags so far behind that of all her neighbors. What is the true cause for this? Leadership or better still, lack thereof. The tourism sector will always perform way below par until and unless the necessary infrastructural pieces are put in place. Dominica can’t even attract any five star hotels like the other islands around her. Where leadership is lacking the people are deprived and the country remains in a permanent state of backwardness. The time is right for a change most definitely.

Thanks Robbie. With the additional flight, I will be leaving the US at 8am and getting to Dominica the same day at 4:30. All those u see complaining only travel from their village to Roseau while the others cannot come home. They just like to complain and complain. They complain so much sometime they complain about themselves. Keep working Robbie.

Not if you use this thrice weekly new flight you wont. It leaves Barbados at 8.50 in the morning. You would have to arrive in Barbados the day before and overnight there.
Please check Liat’s winter schedule, valid till 31 May next year.

What does it matter if LIAT increases its flights to Dominica?

Nobody is competing against LIAT, as matter of fact LIAT is not competing against LIAT going to Dominica; what you see is what you get!

It is nonprofitable, now and was always a nonprofitable entity, and shall forever remain Dominica’s main means of air transportation in and out of Dominica; until it collapsed into bankruptcy, and into oblivion.

It is a curse entity serving a curse backward place!

    Hahahahahahaahahahahaha!

I doubt this is legally feasible because of runway restrictions at DOM. The runway is only 5,761 ft. long. An early version 737-200 requires 6,099 ft. for take off and I must admit I have seen the rare 737 (Venezuelan registered) operating there but I would not risk it, certainly not if the runway is wet on landing. The Airbus 319 may just do it or any of the smaller regional jets such as the Bombardier CRJ family or the Embraer ERJ.

Avoid LIAT like the plague, they will lose your bags and not care. Pure hell traveling with family on them too. Try flying through St Lucia, they have just as many flights on offer and they don’t treat you like crap at their ports.

Here we go again. So what date in October will start? I think this piece of information is to inform everyone that the election will be sometime in early October, I would say between the 2nd to 3rd week so the Diaspora voters could stay for the festival. I hoy the opposition takes heed

:?: It’s obvious, the babylonian calendar year is ending with lots of festivities which started last evening 09-19,2019 followed by wcmf and the greatest feast of pagan lies called christmas! The one-man rogue regime prime mistake usually use that time of year to announce his elections and camouflage the importation of illegal ballots/voters. This slave plantation mentality island is not ready for any meaningful development as the people are a bunch of lost souls!!!!

I an not sure why it took LIAT so long to schedule the afternoon flight out of Barbados to allow Dominicans to connect the same day. It seemed like a no-brainer to me.

When will you stop using that caption of an obsolete De Havilland Dash-8 in your LIAT reports. This model aircraft is no longer in the LIAT fleet and this particularly plane was ferried out some time ago to the U.S.A. for disposal.

ADMIN: Thank you for pointing that out. The photo has been updated.

Aye Robert, how de night landing working out nuh? De night landing dem jokers led by Roosevelt had a big ceremony to celebrate.

Robert let us know about the returns on de night landing investment nuh. Where are those increased flights and improved same day connections the night landing investment was supposed to bring to Dominica?

A look at the daily air traffic schedule reveals that there is hardly any flight into Dominica after 6pm unless a flight is late, so the airport to a large extent is pretty much stuck in the same mode as it was prior to the night landing investment at the airport.

And Robert, where is dat Miami – Dominica flight that was supposed to materialize last year?

    Reminder y’all – https://dominicanewsonline.com/news/homepage/news/business/tonge-promises-miami-to-dominica-flights-this-year/
