Little Gem Prep elects new PTA Executive

Little Gem Preschool students

Principal of the Little Gem Preparatory, Maydinia Defoe took the opportunity to introduce her “dynamic” PTA Executive to the parent body of the school on Wednesday.

The team was presented during a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) General Meeting. The meeting was held in the Public Service Conference Room under the theme “One Golden Mission, Every Voice Counts.”

Newly elected, the PTA Executive is comprised of Mrs.Maydinia Defoe – Principal, Mrs.Ivonia Isles – Acting Principal, Ms.Samine Darroux – Teacher Representative, Ms.Yvette Charles – Executive President, Mrs.Kathleen Cornelius – Vice President, Ms.Franciane Bernard – Parent Representative (1st Year ), Ms.Aaliyah Anthony – Parent Representative (2nd Year), Mrs.Theresa Dejean – Parent Representative (3rd Year), Mr. Danis Bastien – Haitian Parent Representative,

Ms. Michelle Marshall – Director of Fundraising, Ms. Shola Carlisle Public – Relations Officer, Ms. Esther Lammar – Events Coordinator,  Ms.Vanessa Joseph Treasurer, Ms.Vanessa Felix Secretary, Ms.Tana Valmond, Director of Visual and Creative Arts and Mr. Osbert Bannis Maintenance Specialist.

The Principal expressed how elated she was to be working with a group of phenomenal parents who are united in working selflessly toward the growth and development of the Little Gem Preparatory.

“The PTA Motto is a clear representation of their commitment because it compliments the school’s impactful motto which is “Gently Educating Minds, Striving for Excellence.”

Mrs. Kathleen Cornelius highlighted the importance of implementing the use of Google Classroom. She had the privilege of demonstrating how Google Classroom works and encouraged parents to get familiarized with it because of the prevalence of technology in our modern world.

The Director of Fundraising, Ms. Michelle Marshall, also made an impactful presentation on the importance of fundraising. When it comes to fundraising, we can all agree that it is essential when dealing with schools, especially privately owned schools.

“Obtaining money takes the fundraising Oscar. By organizing and executing successful fundraising activities, we are able to gain the resources we need to achieve the school’s goals,” she expressed.

“For the past term, we saw the number of activities that took place and it was somewhat burdensome for many including myself. By doing fundraising, we can assist with supplementing the school’s budget for things like field trips, parties/events, and facility upgrades.”

She indicated that one of the goals they are trying to accomplish through fundraising is the enhancement of the school’s facade.

It was acknowledged that the school is in “dire” need of playground enhancement since playing is essential for children’s developmental stages.

“To assist with doing so, we have outlined three (3) important fundraising activities planned for the month of February Valentine’s Day Cake Sale, donation sheet, and a super sale,” Ms Marshall stated.

The PTA Executive President, Yvette Charles, assured the parent body that her team is committed to bringing honor and great success to the Little Gem Preparatory. One of their many goals is to continue to promote parental involvement as it is the formula for great success in every aspect of the children’s lives.

Ms. Shola Carlisle, Public Relations Officer, said that this term and beyond, they are committed to serving the Little Gem Preparatory with distinction.

“We clearly understand the significant role the PTA plays so we will capitalize on its tremendous benefits. We will continue to play our parts in ensuring that all of our precious little gems are given the equal opportunity to shine brilliantly in every aspect of their lives,” Carlisle said.

Well, In was thinking the same. A little school like that with 24 tots having a 16 people executive to run them then. Maybe they want to outdo Skerrit’s cabinet. The little kids are innocent of any elitist grandstanding of course.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 4 Thumb down 6

Can you kindly the look up the meaning of NEWS in your dictionary ?Let me educate you because clearly in your excitement to be relevant you were blinded by your ignorance .Your comment is distasteful .Please don’t tell me that you are an adult .News is defined as recent events /activities that is NOTEWORTHY .A preschool flourishing in its own capacity have you unvomfirtable and irritated that you felt the need to blatantly disrespect DNO ?????The news editor gave pity on ur ridiculous comment .Some people can’t stand the fact that politics alone is not news .So much filth that just be in the news and is little gem u seeing light on ????eh magwaysa

Feller your comments means squat! to me. how is this relevant to our economy, our environment, whats going on in sports? nothing in technology to talk about? None of our productive sectors are really being productive? thats my point. also my grandmother ran her own preschool successfully for decades producing island scholars in many cases consistently. she did it all on her own and didnt need no PTA executive.

Now where politics is concerned where do you get off thinking and assuming that i believe that only politics is news? i dont even listen to politicians. This to me is irrelevant.

The problem with people like you is that you think after you it doh have more .Rubbish.how something so incredible turn into this hateful comment .Just congratulate the preschool on their progress and move on .This is a demonstration that the PTA Executive is pushing PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT as the formula for great success .this is lacking in Dominica .Wait , did u even read and understand the article ?CIMPREHENSION IS 🔑
