The fifth peaceful march organized by Atherton Martin entitled the “March for Peace, Justice and Prosperity” takes place today.
It is expected that Dr. Thomson Fontaine, will join the walk.
Dr. Fontaine was arrested by the police when he returned to Dominica on Saturday last week in fulfilment of a bench warrant issued for his arrest in 2018.

The street walk must make some changes, including going around the Financial Center several time. You also don’t need a permit to walk around a building (our building).

There was a time when a Dominica born Syrian man would not talk to a black woman in public, nor a Syrian woman: Tony Astaphan is of Syrian decent; he is married to a Bird of Antigua who is Black!
One of his uncles a might be deceased now operated a motor mechanic shop on Bath Road opposite the convent high school way back in the 1950’s married to a black woman; one of their sons name Hugo, the other name Micheal.

Gary, I totally understand; but the prejudices of the past in Dominica have long dissipated.
What people need to is concentrate on the future rather than living in the past. The reality is simply this: In the 21st century we know that prejudice an bigotry still exists in certain places in the world.
Nevertheless, we should learn to deal with it whenever we find it lifting its ugly head.
Dominicans lie too much in the past; as a result we chase every white person who lived and contributed to the development of the country, and that is why ours is the poorest island in the Caribbean.
Unlike Barbados which tolerated a large British born population, and if you review; all of the other islands in the Caribbean you will find that their success are all due to the tolerance they maintained for a mixture of different ethnicity and culture on their islands.
I can give you incidents where a white British family was stoned of a beach in Castle Bruce in 1964.

These walks reflect the true spirit of those who, in past times, have peacefully campaigned for civil rights elsewhere in the world; not least Dr. Martin Luther King and Mohandas Gandhi.
