Former UWP senator, Dr. Thomson Fontaine was arrested at Melville Hall Airport upon his arrival in Dominica earlier today.
Dr. Fontaine, a former IMF economist who, for the past four years, has been employed as Economic and International Policy Adviser to the government of South Sudan, Africa, was arrested by the police who were executing a bench warrant issued for his arrest in 2018.
The warrant stems from Dr. Fontaine’s absence for two court appearances in 2018 after obstruction charges were brought against him, Lennox Linton, Joshua Francis and Joseph Isaac who was a member of the United Workers Party (UWP) at the time.
The obstruction charges were adjourned sine die, however, the next hearing on charges of incitement against UWP leader Linton and Dr. Fontaine, was set for January 22, 2019 and because of Dr. Fontaine’s previous absences, the presiding magistrate granted the prosecution’s request for a bench warrant for Dr. Fontaine who was not present at the two court hearings which had so far been held.
Fontaine was arrested upon his return after more than four years.

I have heard Dr. Fontaine speak about the unsanitary and atrocious conditions of the station cells. Every decent minded citizen should be alarmed about ths.
Many innocent citizens get arrested mistakenly or on bogus charges quite often. Yet, they are subjected to such rotten conditions and horrendous treatment. The suffocating stench, the concrete bed and pillow, the large rat and roach population, the bread and butter for breakfast and lunch wants one to regurgitate all inside the stomach.
These horrendous conditions of these cells should be reported to human rights organizations. Getting arrested doesn’t mean that you have lost your humanity or human rights. These conditions only reflect the mismanagement of the country and of us as a people. Not even animals should be treated that way. Even a pig sty, for the most part, is managed much better.

As to the matter above, there is a procedure as to how a bench warrant is obtained, such warrant is not done on the order of The PM directing the police to arrest Thomson, if you understood such
