Maduro claims victory over ‘deranged’ coup attempt

Nicolas Maduro claimed his troops have thwarted a botched attempt to topple him masterminded by Venezuela’s “coup-mongering far right” and Donald Trump’s deranged imperialist “gang” – while on Wednesday morning the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, said US military action in the country was a possibility “if required”, the Guardian is reporting.

According to the Guardian, Maduro gave an hour-long address to the Venezuelan nation on Tuesday night – his first since the pre-dawn uprising began – in which he accused the opposition leader Juan Guaidó and his political mentor, Leopoldo López, of seeking to spark an armed confrontation that might be used as a pretext for a foreign military intervention.

However, “loyal and obedient” members of Venezuela’s Bolivarian armed forces had put down the mutiny within hours of it starting shortly after 4am on Tuesday, Maduro claimed, in direct contradiction to Guaidó’s earlier remark that the president no longer had military backing.

Meanwhile, a statement from Venezuela’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said that Venezuela is absolute calm after the attempted coup which it described as “part of a series of unsuccessful strategies of the local opposition to take political power by unconstitutional means.”

The statement claims that the Venezuelan Foreign Minister stressed in a media interview that the action has no major consequences as is being projected at the international level.

He accused the US, Canada and Colombia of complicity in the matter.

“The US spokesmen have declared themselves at the head of this coup d’état, from President Trump himself, Bolton, Pompeo; and then down the chain of command to Mr. Duque in Colombia, and then in Venezuela to the extremist opposition, “he said.

The statement quotes the Foreign Affairs Minister as saying that “eventually all these failures are going to have to lead to a dialogue table and this will be solved by the only possible way in democracy that is constitutional and peaceful.”

But isn’t friends supposed to be able to stand with friends when they are in trouble? I ask because Sunday in Grand Fond Skerrit referred to himself as a friend of Venezuela, although we know he meant to say he is a friend of Maduro; Maduro is in deep, deep, deep trouble even utter darkness and Skerrit is a total NO show, even his tongue he put a padlock on and threw the key, just to make sure he doesn’t unlock it. So what kind of friend is Skerrit man? Is he scared that if he opens his mouth he too will be in trouble?

These activities have all the making of the USA. A few years ago it was Columbia , a few years before that it was Argentina now its Cuba and Venezuela . You do not have to be an expert on Latin America history to see the USA playbook in action for regime change. Only in this case its double dipping….Regime change and oil.

Chavez took power with a coup against a sitting government in power.

A coup is good and acceptable by an army general….at least that is the impression that I get from my PM and other leaders especially caricom.
An unarmed uprising by the very people who cast ballots for voting to determine who they want to lead Dem is a sin and a criminal treasonous act eh….

De same power we have to make a scratch on a ballot to give leaders power…… that self same power of de people can cause a brutal dictator to hide in de toilet and run into exile!

    Skerrit better watch himself!

America don’t like people to interfere in their politics but they always want to dictate to other countries. The dictator here is The USA.

Absolute nonsense. The russian collusion story was a hoax created by the democrats to try to stop Trump. Nobody ever complained about election meddling before that. Besides China is constantly trying to hack into sensitive government databases of other countries.

The fact is that Maduro needs to go. He inherited a failed system from a failed leader and he himself is even more of an idiot. The only people benefitting from this situation are China, Russia and the corrupt politicians like Diosdado Cabello and others who are robbing the country dry.

But all of them their day is coming soon and very soon.

Look in the mirror. You’re nothing but a modern day slave.Sell-out ask the US to clean up all the mess in their house before they go to fix stuff at other people’s homes. Learn international politics before you opine.

Is bawling “coup, coup” part of the guidelines of authoritarian leader’s manual on How To Stay in Power ‘Forever’ when they are faced with legitimate opposition protests?

Was a particular somebody reading from that manual when he conjured up the delusion that opposition forces in Dominica with the assistance of a dump truck had tried to overthrow his government in February 2017?

So what do you call May 29,1979 and the 49 day closure of the country. Or D-Day of February 17, 1917, when with coup like boldfaceness and subtle blackmail the Government was given a 14 days ultimatum notice to leave, quit and disappear or suffer serious consequences. Then after a few days the shout was “no election without electoral reform.” There is an old saying… “you can fool some of the people some of the time but not all the people all of the time.” Well some of us were born in the night but not last night. We are too experienced to be taken for a fake political ride by these imposters and opposition political gang bangers.
We know who began May 29, 1979 with a stone brigade , burn the registry and beat up Ferdinand Frampton. We know who murdered Timothy and blame the Defense Force. We can go back to 1963 when 3 innocent young men were burnt to death on Carnival Monday. The worst murder in Dominica remained unsolved. Some eyewitnesses are still alive today.
