There should be systems in place. When someone is missing the admittance department should be the first place checked by the police when family hasc nformed the police next the morgue.

Patient Privacy dictates that a patient’s condition and Psychiatric Admission should never be disclosed to the public. PERIOD. What’s going on here? If this is not the law it should be. In the US (HIPPA) and other countries there are laws in place for which a fine and possibly imprisonment is imposed for disclosure of a patient’s condition. The Ethics Committee of the Health Department needs to enact this law. I am fully anticipating negative feedback but the fact remains that we are in the 21st century and we need to optimize the systems. As King Dice said, “Send me, look me”

Eight days later we find out the missing person was a patient at the hospital for over eight days. Dominica can not be a real place. Is there no procedure at the hospitals to let loved ones know that someone has been admitted? Do the police have anyways of finding out if a missing person has been admitted to the hospital or whatever? This is a failure on every level and I hope the appropriate authorities take notice before it happens to them

It could be something to do with Patient Privacy Law, if you are deemed a responsible adult you have the right to keep your medical issues private. The gentleman may have chosen to do that, it’s a possibility. Just a thought.

Happy to learn that the gentleman has been located with his life intact. We need to do a lot more to assist people with mental and physical challenges. The government should put mechanisms and systems in place to make these people’s lives more fulfilling. Only a caring government will endeavor to help those who have nothing to give them in return. These people cannot vote so their lives are expendable. Remember, the current monocracy sees people only as votes.
