Man fined for attacking woman

court1A man who probably allowed a woman to get on his nerves will now have to dig up $3,000 for his indiscretion after he was arrested by Coulibistrie police on charges of battery on female and throwing missiles (stones).

“I tired with this woman, so I hit her with a stone… I know is jail I going, I don’t care,” Dorian Griffin Durand, reportedly told the police when he was arrested.

Reports are that the police were called to the scene of an incident of stone throwing on April 12, 2013 in Morne Rachette. Durand was arrested for the offence.

In court he was a completely different man. “I am very sorry for doing that. I was under the influence of alcohol … sorry for hitting the girl,” he said.

Chief magistrate Evelina Baptiste informed him that, “being drunk is not a defense in law, it does not help you one bit.”

“I have to take into account the prevalence of general bad behaviour and crime in the country. The size of the rocks used shows a great deal of carelessness and malicious intent on your part, you could have killed the lady,” she said.

He pleaded guilty and was charged $1,800 for battery and $1,200 for throwing missiles, to be paid by August 31, 2013 or in default, 9 and 7 months jail to run concurrently.

Durand, originally from Bath Estate, can count his lucky stars for not being sent to jail since his court rap sheet indicates he has previouis convictions on drugs charges, malicious damage, throwing missiles and burglary.

A stone is a dangerous weapon. It could be as bad as a gun or cutlass. She could have been killed.
He said he is tired of the woman. I doubt this is true love. If he injures her or murder her he will say to the Court he is sorry. After the act, it will be too late for sorry and regret.
It was not stated what the woman said to him or did to him. One of the causes is, probably she informed him about drinking too much and to cease drinking. When some people drink and get drunk they could be difficult to be with and to live with.
If he is tired of the woman, then leave her. It is obvious that they are constantly at odds. The problem with some people is they will continue in such an unsatisfactory, quarrelsome and violent relationship. When he gets really fed-up he may murder her. This usually happens. Woman, use your head and run for your life, far away from this stone/missile throwing man. He is dangerous.
Since it appears to be a habit of him, he should be imprisoned for no less than one year. Where will he get the money to pay the Court? Is he employed? If not, who will lend it to him if per chance he has no means of repaying it? Some people need to learn a lesson.
People as he are a menace to society. Incarceration with hard labour for a while may teach them a lesson. Society must be protected from them. The Court must consider this punishment for habitual criminals of whatever nature.

Too much of it, drinking in excess can cause this. Moderation is recommended. He is in need of rehabilitation.
