Parliamentary Representative for the Marigot Constituency, Anthony Charles who confirmed his official membership of the newly formed political party, the United Progressive Party (UPP) said he is prepared to contest in the next general elections on a UPP ticket.
Charles was speaking as a guest on Q-95 Radio ‘Talk on the Block Program’ this week.
According to Charles, he will remain an independent candidate for the rest of the term.
“Anthony Charles, Parliamentary Representative of Marigot is staying Independent for the rest of the term, but as we do not know the hour or the time for the next general election, I cannot wait to say when is the next election to formulate or take action join a party or make a party, but I will be going up again to represent Marigot,” he said. “I am not doing it as an independent candidate.”
He continued, “So, I am making it clear to everybody I will be going up for a party, but I am not crossing no floor.”
Charles added, “I’m just letting everybody know, especially the Marigot constituents when the election toll ring I will be ringing it on the UPP party.”
He stated that this is no secret, he wants transparency.
“I am the independent representative for Marigot. I will stay there and fulfil the term, but I want everybody to know that next election I will be going up as a member of the UPP,” Charles reiterated.
Charles, who contested the Dec 6, 2022, general elections as an independent candidate said in an interview in December of that same year that he decided to contest the Marigot seat because that constituency lacked representation.
Charles is a farmer and was among two other candidates who contested the Marigot seat. They were Dominica Labour Party (DLP) candidate, Gregory Riviere and Team Unity Dominica (TUD) representative, Carlos Charles.
I’ve long noted that every and anybody can be a politician in Dominica, since in the space we occupy in our universe doesn’t require an abundance of simple commonsense, nor academics to become a politician and eventually a minister of government!
Just reading the way in which he expresses himself, repetitively; his vocabulary seems like some peasants out of the common era (CE); I doubt he gave any thought to the blunder he made when someone suckered him into the garbage in which he now finds himself.
If he had any common sense or intelligence, by now he would have realized that if it wasn’t him the people of Marigot would have voted for someone else, in order to keep Roosevelt and his labor party out of the people of Marigot hair!
So, his head got too large for his shoulders, and felt confident that the people of the village will follow him into Some UPP.
He believes that association with people like Francis a personal and political life failure will help him: he’ll find out!
You have just committed political suicide by going back on your word but I still wish you success in your future undertakings.
goodbye my boy
Tony, I like your courage. However the UWP supporters that voted for you at the last election will not be available at the next election, labour party supporters will vote labour and you will surely lose your deposit.
Batte corp zorts kon di Massisi la batte le. Labour power ka faire zorts hiphop.
It always seemed from day one that this guy is not a smart fella and his subsequent actions and utterances reinforce this.
Parliament is simply not for every and anyone.
DNO seem to be mad about de man contesting on a UPP ticket. He cannot take a chance with UWP,the blue party cannot and will never win an election in Dominica. The blue leader and the blue deputy leader are two of the most dishonest people in politics.
As i intimated several months ago, Marigot has spawned some of Dominica’s most brilliant minds, including the James, Lintons, Charles, etc, so you contesting in Marigot, is the slightest of worry for the Marigot people. In other words, you will be an absolute non entity, once the UWP is in the race. Your infamous rise to political prominence is almost entirely due to UWP voters..So with a withdrawal of their votes, your deposit will remain in our treasury. Good riddance!
