DBS Board to review GM position

Telecommunications Minister Ambrose George says operations at the Dominica Broadcasting Station (DBS) is running smoothly.

“All is well at DBS,” the Minister said.

George’s comments came on the heels of a reported conflict between DBS’s Board of Directors and the General Manager Mariette Warrington.

George told the media on Wednesday that matter should not be considered a controversy, but more of an administrative problem surrounding the general manager.

“The general manager is currently on leave and Shermain Green-Brown is currently acting in that position. The Board is currently reviewing the position of the general manager, as well as an accounting officer for the corporation. It is the intention of the board to review the entire structure of the DBS,” he said.

George said the restructuring was recommended several years ago.

you people are just running your mouths and not looking at the facts of the matter Mr.grell has some serious issue the board should have never put ms.warrington on leave she has done a very good job as general manager is the board the needs to look at the way they go about carrying out their functions, how the hell can you just change and lock de lady out her office that is a sign off no respect.d.b.c radio is a government run but the statement about it being a D.l.P radio is just stupidness. dbs has be around for so long that i wont listen to any other station but them cause they have rules unlike de other stations that their worker can just say what they want and how they feel like it .

why should she lock her office if she is travelling and no one can enter?
Why shoud her expenses be so high?
Why should DBS be paying for her expenses?
and the questions can go on and on…

  7. No manager around, no evidence
    April 15, 2010

To ‘getting rid of evidence’ you are a prophet. On second thought the … DBS BOARD, and their political friends, realize that they … with the manager who was there during the 2009 election to do an …act in refusing to give the opposition equal access to the National Radio Station. An action against the laws of Dominica. In that case, if she is out of the picture, evidence from her will not be forthcoming, especially if she decides to migrate soon away from all that drama. It is a calculated … move. Justice will prevail.

It is true that DBS have debts close to 1 Million dollars ?

What has this manager been doing to improve the financies of this radio station? Refusing political parties monies for use of the radio?

It’s about time man like Lawrence and d others take action.

Is this another case of negotiated tender?

soon we will hear they laying off staff just as they were laying off the only colas workers on island at a time when there is the highest need for colas.
Yes but a fellow French national gets the colas contract and even locating it ~100ft upwind of a fishing village and Titiwi festival….LOL poison d whole nation

Idiots, DUMB inicans, I laugh almost everytime i read the comments spweing.
The GM reports to a board of directors, ultimately its the board who has the cross to bear.
They need to reinstate her, put the right procedures in place and then a*** and evaluate her based on something, not just speculation

why wasnt an injunction filed against the board…
Isnt this Nothing short of getting rid of the evidence of treason?
Tampering with elections/ Limitations on access to the press???

  10. DBS or DLP Radio Station?
    April 15, 2010

Wasn’t it DBS who banned Exile One and Gordon Henderson, creators of our internationally acclaimed Cadence music, for three years. The lady of song, Ophelia Olivacee Marie, was treated with the same ban. The Manager was there. The present chairman of the Board of DBS was a board member at the time.

During the election of 2009, was equal access given to the opposition parties to air their views on matters of National development? Isn’t it against the law? Isn’t it wrong to do such a thing with the National Radio station or is it the DLP Radio station? The Manager of DBS as well as the present chairman of the Board were there.

Who banned, during the calypso season much to the dissatisfaction of the public and the Calypso Association, local calypso of SYE entitled ‘Dr. Finger’, while songs with obscene and aggressive lyrics are being played on the said station? The Manager and the present Chairman of DBS Board were there.

The Manager did a good job in defending her Govt and Board’s actions stated above. More of those DLP people will face the same fate. Just a matter of time.

But the Minister of Telecoms should be the last person to want to discipline others given the several controversial issues he has been involved in. Wasn’t he fired by both of his leaders for incompetence? Therefore he has no moral authority to manners those who may have done wrong. But that is the modus operandi of those in Dominica who think that Papa GOD gave them the absolute POWER ON EARTH to rule others as they wish.
