Medical doctor shot and injured in Kalinago Territory

A medical doctor from the Kalinago Terittory was shot and injured in what appeared be to a fracas in the community late Saturday night.
The police have released no official report on the incident but DNO can report that the victim is surgeon, Dr. Theodore Thomas from Senekou.
His vehicle was also vandalized.
The incident took place in front of a shop in Bataca, near to the Atkinson boundary, just hours after the official opening of carnival in the Kalinago Territory.
The cause is unknown.
During the incident people living nearby told DNO that at least seven explosions, which later turned out to be gunshots, were heard. They also said it took place “some time after 11:00 pm.
On Sunday morning, a vehicle belonging to the doctor was observed at the scene with shattered windows and at least one flat tire.
Police also visited the scene on Sunday morning and were seen gathering evidence.
The incident was confirmed by the doctor’s sister who took to social media to report it.
She said her brother was shot in the head.
“Thank God he is alive, the bullet didn’t go through the skull,” the sister wrote.
She alleged that her brother was shot by men from the Kalinago Territory itself, but this has not be confirmed by the police.
“The increase in crime and violence over the past years in Dominica is no myth and when it hits home, the impact is even greater,” she wrote. “I condemn the act. And even if these guys are brought to justice I am looking forward to the days when our young people will be so engaged in meaningful activities and the economy will be thriving so much that these sad effects will no longer be.”
Many people from the Kalinago Territory have taken to social media to express their disgust over the incident since the doctor is known to be a very active member of the community.

There has been no official report from the police on the incident.

“I am looking forward to the days when our young people will be so engaged in meaningful activities and the economy will be thriving so much that these sad effects will no longer be.”

with no proper sporting facilities or real opportunities to learn and grow and excel, they will forever be lost and destructive.

NEP will not allow them to grow as this is not real employment. giving them chump change for businesses that are not real or even viable is not going to help. We have seen it both before and after maria, all the millions that was handed out in the name of “small business development”. where is the boost in economy? where are the jobs? where in the industry? Where is the real change uncle? everything has been changed to allow for some to rise, but our social institutions are fallen. Church alone that have a say, and those people, they does live by fear. fraid everything, that is why we will never progress. We lack courage on many levels.

Now I know public service and protection is a joke to the police authorities in Dominica.
Now I know without the shadow of a doubt crime investigation and prevention is a joke.
This incident took place just hours after the opening of one of the biggest and most important events in that area, where there should have already been at least a strong community police presence, but the article states police visited the scene SUNDAY MORNING, hours after the incident. Police should already have been present in the community, even if only to do community policing. Unconscionable and…

Yeah, someone condemned the act, but who, we don’t know?

“I am looking forward to the days when our young people will be so engaged in meaningful activities”

    Yeah right?

Again I ask who is taking; and may I ask how and when will the industrialized activities become available in order for the “young people” to be come engaged in sustainable full time employment engagement which will avoid them from using dope and shooting people who might be the one to save their their miserable crack cocaine life?

The situation in Dominica will only get worst, I listened to the Labor Party clowns at Londonderry a few days ago where an ignorant guy invoke Rosie Douglas name as he targeted people from 25 years old and below with a dangling carrot about Labor send more people away to study.

    Studying is one thing; however!

When they return its all politics: Nothing to do except collect a handout from the dictator, as long as they dress in red.

    The Dominica alternative!

Sorry to hear about this incident in the doctor’s own community. We would all like the economy to be better than it is but frankly I do not think that it should be blamed for this kind of callous attitude that we have now developed in our society. Many factors have contributed to it some I will not suggest here.

I mean, logically, how would we then explain the almost daily mass shootings in the USA of innocent children in schools; random shooting of people going about their daily business in the streets of that country etc.? Do I take it that their economy is in shambles?

Sorry, no apology for always coming down on the side of my country, but I am truly sorry about the doctor. Young Kalinago gentleman making a name for himself and filling the gap created by the departure of the likes of Dr. Paul. Real sorry.

I’m pleased that the doctor survived this horrendous attack on his life and saddened that the case like many others, before it will not be solved. Even if the perpetrators are caught, they will be freed on some legal technicity. Welcome to the next level.

This is a sad state of affairs happening at the Carib Territory upon a Domininca who is there to work in the interests of everyone at the Carib Territory. Dr. Theodore Thomas from Sineku is the current sitting Doctor for the Carib Territory and we have someone causing injury to im whereas he is there to a do a service to the people of the Territory ad we have someone within the Territory inflicting injury on him. This is not good and the Carib Chief and his councillors must come together with other groups in the Carib Territory to make sure this kind of brutal attack must not happen again. Good luck people of the Carib territory. Carib Chief , please take the lead and initiative that this incident will not happen again.

It’s the Kalinago Territory. Get it right. Respect due.

On the other hand, I hope these trouble makers remain in the kalabouse (jail) for the carnival season.

      God bless my people.
      Speedy recovery Doc.
Praises no permanent damage was done to you.

Yes Looking in….lets see how you are referred to? Is it Black or Brown complexion or is it Negro, and when is it in its best use? I rather focus more on the incident rather than debating the name. That is not gonna stop the poverty and inward fighting in the Territory.
As young Strong stressed guy says below: “If there were more BETTER paying jobs most of those things wouldn’t have happened…” Let s address this and make quality life and living be the agenda. A name gets us know where, just fighting ith each other. It is tie that the Territory and other villages of Dominica raise their standard of living to one of quality and decency.
Lets get away from labels and into education, good family life, employment , jobs, agriculture , crafts etc, where the Territory is rich. Guess they are in need of strong and good leadership.
Wake up my people in the Carib Territory, Grand Bay, Stockfarm, Fond Cole, Dubique, Good Hope etc. Get going , take over your respective villages. To hell…

I’m elated that the good doctor survived this onslaught on his life. Despite the upsurge in crime, Dominica is still a relatively peaceful place. Let’s hope for a truly new dispensation where community togetherness will replace insensitivity and division in all the communities. Hoping the doctor makes a full an speedy recovery and will return to his practice.

      Don’t be elated yet.

Because a bullet to the head which may have not kill the man might have caused as much damage that though he might seem okay in the interim may render him practically useless later; unless you have an early neurological report with a fair to good prognosis; don’t be over elated yet!

The brain is in the head, to where a network of neurons control the operation of the human body transmitting information from muscles, organs, and sensory system to the brain, where the information integrated, and used to determine the nature of signals sent to the muscles, and glands.

The brains of all vertebrates are organized along similar lines, with increasing specialization of the forebrain seen as vertebrates evolved. If the bullet simply grassed his head and did not lodged in his head where no  surgery had to be performed to remove it, then you can be elated.

Even if it passed through his head serous damage perhaps occurred!

Thanks. Like Ibo France I would like to come down on the positive side.

I pray, in the name of Jesus he will be fine! Nice day to you.
