Ministry of Education conducts training to better equip teachers for online teaching

Dr. Jeffrey Blaize

Assistant Chief Education Officer, Dr. Jeffrey Blaize, said the Ministry of Education is undertaking a series of training programmes for teachers in Dominica to better equip them to use the internet, including, Google platform for online teaching.

“We have embarked on a series of training programmes for our teachers and as we speak teachers are being trained,” Dr. Blaize stated at a Ministry of Education news conference recently. “Initially, previous to the closing of schools in March this year, we had already started our training.”

He said lead teachers with sufficient knowledge of the internet and related technology, were identified at every school and are engaged in training for other teachers.

“As we speak, in July, subsequent to the closing of schools, we are going to host a series of training programmes on the Google platform for all our teachers and that is one of the things we are looking forward [with] because we know that teachers are not going to be travelling pretty much during the summer,” Dr. Blaize stated. “They are all going to be here with us, so we are going to be doing online training.”

Dr. Blaize, that training should not be for all teachers!!!!!!!! We already trained ourselves sir. Sad to say I regret becoming a teacher…I really felt it during this covid pandemic. You all don’t listen to teachers at all!
    – You want us to post videos and go live. While this is a good idea for some teachers, it’s not for others because most or many of their students are not online. HOw is that fair? Some get printed notes and others get to see their teachers live? What works best for one teacher might not work for another.
-Now we have to get children to make portfolios. After talking to some teachers about projects guess what? Many of them gave projects months ago and only one or two children did the work. The project was posted online and given as a handout so I don’t know what more you all want from teachers.
All you people had to do was allow teachers to review first and second term content and give a placement test in September. stop punishing teachers!

Seriously!!! That training should only be for those who need it. Teachers have already learned so much about Google classroom on YouTube, Facebook and from each other. I see teachers doing so much on there…and we still have to spend part of our holiday learning what??? You all need to LISTEN to your teachers. They are the ones feeling the heat!

Does that education include learning to avoid the split infinitive?

If teachers have to attend classes in July, August will they be paid for their vacation? Or can take vacation during the school year.
While teachers should learn how to use online delivery systems for emergency such as Covid. From all the feedback this method of delivery for students below grade 8 was not effective. More energy should be spent on getting children back to school in September.

Many teachers taught themselves how to use Google Classroom. It was not effective at all and they should know that but they would rather come on DNO and go on the radio to make it seem like everything is nice and dandy. I got headaches and eye pain from spending long hours in front of the computer …even at night. I agree…. spend that energy on getting children back to school in September. They will leave it for last minute….smh

Dr. Blaize damn fresh to say that teachers are not going to be travelling much during this summer. They are all going to be here with us. Boarders opening up , while some people would not travel others will.

“As we speak, in July …” There we go again. This is the DEPUTY Chief Education Officer and his command of the English language is lacking.
Sir, we are in the month of June, July has not yet arrived. How then can you begin by “as we speak”??
We in serious trouble. The teacher needs to be taught and the educators educated!!

I guest Is you can do a better job many a times we always try to correct people when they speak but we just don’t understand what we are correcting there is nothing wrong with the sentence that he use. We sometimes to quick to jump to conclusion because it is a government official.

Rather than training teachers you should train the government ministers. Subject: how to speak to people politely and in proper English.

How do they know teachers are not going to be traveling during summer and even if we are not traveling don’t we deserve our vacation as well ? Why put more online training in July even we have the time to do it all now ???

Of course, Wallace Hussy, I can do a better job with the ENGLISH LANGUAGE. And I don’t make comments because the person is a government official. You are the one concluding that.
My friend it’s INCORRECT, from a linguistic standpoint, to say what he said. My purpose in every post is to get us to RAISE our standards
I benefit nothing from “bashing” people in the public sphere. But if you think it’s correct, go ahead. One can only take the horse to the well but can’t force it to drink”.
Further, in the second paragraph he says”Initially, PREVIOUS to to the closing of schools…”. The word he should have employed is PRIOR.
        Have a wonderful day WH😉😉🤗
