Ministry of Health reports four ‘probable’ additional cases COVID-19 in Dominica

In the wake of an announcement by Prime Minister Skerrit that the number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Dominica had jumped from 2 to 7, the Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment reported today that there are four probable cases of COVID-19 in the country.

A release signed by the Hospital Medical Director stated that these four (4) probable cases are currently being retested.

“These five (5) new confirmed cases, as well as the four probably cases, are all contacts of our first case,” the release said. “These individuals are all being isolated and cared for at the St. James Facility in Portsmouth.”

As per established Public Health Practices, the Ministry of Health is continuing aggressive contact tracing to identify every individual who may have come into close contact with these patients.

All individuals identified during contact tracing will be tested and placed under quarantine.

Our main focus as a Ministry is to ensure containment. We are reassuring the public that all necessary actions are being undertaken.
The Ministry urges the general public to continue to practice proper hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette. We strongly encourage persons to maintain social distancing and quarantine as advised.

The public is further advised to inform health officials in their districts of anyone not adhering to quarantine measures. Health officials can be contacted at 448-2151, 448-2156, 448-2153, 611-4325 and toll-free at 1-800-219.

The Ministry of Health is committed to continuing to provide all necessary information as the situation unfolds, to the people of the Commonwealth of Dominica, on measures to be taken to ensure the health and safety of all Dominicans.

what is probable? tested: negative or positive. I think is avoiding the fact that more people have the virus that means is is spreading very well.

You do realise that since the hurricane, many areas do not yet have phones and do not have television or internet, so such important messages may not be understood and calling these numbers may not be possible.

Stay at home, people as much as possible to avoid infection and infecting.

I hope the government is making provisions for ensuring that food can be delivered in a safe manner to homes to avoid the necessitation of people movement. Especially for our elderly brothers and sisters who are most vulnerable.

The hurricane was an Act of God (admittedly triggered by the Acts of Man) yet the pandemic is completely the Act of Man, as will be its spread.

“These five (5) new confirmed cases, as well as the four probably cases, are all contacts of our first case,” the release said.”
So seeing that last night PM said we had 7 cases, are we to now add these 5 new cases the ministry of health reporting today and update the number to 12 cases, with the possibility of 4 possible new cases that would take us 16? The information is confusing. Seems like we in China boy

So is that confusing information part of the propaganda ? Skerrit as PM informed the world that Dominica had 7 cases as of the time of his address yesterday, in less than 24hrs later, the ministry of health is talking about 4 cases, then 5 new cases plus the four probable cases etc etc. So are they in a war or they just cannot count or trying to mislead us? Now I am so confused that I don’t even know if the new way to count is 1,2,7 or 4, 5, 9

Wait awhile nah, didn’t these people under the leadership of Skerrit proclaim that persons who came into the island would be checked at the ports of entry, put into some sort of quarantine (whether self quarantine or otherwise) with follow-up measures in place to monitor & ensure such persons adhered to the 14 day quarantine rule? 8-O 8-O 8-O

Can somebody therefore explain to me how an individual (the first case) who recently came into the island from the UK, who was supposed to be in some sort of quarantine/isolation was able to infect so many people?

Wha happen. Quarantine & isolation mean something else in Dominica.

What really going on here. Didn’t Skerrit & his sycophants claim during the election that “It was safer with Labour”?

[Lord, please have mercy……especially on the innocent in Dominica; Lord, many people in Dominica rejected Skerrit; their wishes were temporarily halted by the actions of reprobate & dishonest people in & out of Dominica]

That proves my statement from 2 weeks ago when I said that DA had at least 1 case but the government insisted that DA was virus free. What a cheating and opaque government we have.

This sheet is getting very serious. My god! I sincerely hope that heads will roll BIG TIME when the dust settles. This is gross mismanagement, stubbornness and what I calling MAGNAMUS LYING to the population by those who think they can fool all the people all the time. Dr. Darroux must be SMILING in silence now as much as he is hurting because of the whole thing.

And this man needs to be charged and jailed!! Put legislation in place to deal with those violating quarantine and to deal with this whole thing.

I think the identity of the first person should be released. Persons may have come into contact with him and may not be on the identified list during this contact tracing exercise. By doing this, more persons may come forward for testing outside of those identified by the Ministry.
