You have a guy that owns a gun walking the streets again? You honestly think that man had a gun to protect his legal banana trees? When will the authorities in Dominica wake up realize the world is changing and they must change with it. You cannot give a criminal an option on gun possession, if you are caught with a firearm we are going to fine and send you to jail for a minimum of 15 years. When you take a life with that firearm on our peaceful island that person is not coming back. Your laws need to deter crime not encourage them Mr Attorney General. Instead of worrying about how much you guys going to charge a hard working person for a barrel on the port direct that energy on protecting Dominican lives. We have people at the helm that don’t have a clue of what they are doing. If I am a drug dealer and I know all I have to do is pay a fine why would I be worried if I get caught with a gun or not. I need to send the president a letter. Enough is Enough already.

Team Law23, you have proffered some pertinent pointers on the illegal gun and ammunition issue that is presently plaguing Dominica. Conviction for unlicensed gun and illegal ammunition should carry both a fine and an automatic jail sentence. Instead of wasting time cursing like drunken sailors in parliament , the parliamentarians need to pass new legislation to protect the citizenry from these gun tooting thugs.

Eh ben, that is quick action and good. But do we have two laws then according to your connection. If you are a crab catcher with the golden touch and a bubbly nick name you get your unlicensed gun handed back by police. And if you are a minister you can bring your gun into the House and not even an inquiry or reprimand from the Speaker. There appears to be strict law for some in our country and I agree, but different law for others and some just untouchable. So P.M. is right then and law is for some only, according to who you are.

This is simply not good enough. A fine of 30,000 plus a year in jail would be appropriate for first time offenders.

Agree with you only because some of these criminals have the funds to pay the fines . Mandatory jail should be part of the fix . Of course it must be equally applied across the board .

The govt. wants money, not to get the criminals off the streets.
