Some Dominicans who live in Central Florida in the US have formed an organization with the aim of developing and promoting “meaningful connections and relationships among Dominicans in the Central Florida region and the residents of our homeland Dominica.”
The Dominica Orlando Movement Organization (D.O.M) was formed shortly after Tropical Storm Erika devastated parts of the island in August 2015.
Following the storm, Dominicans residing in the Central Florida region came together to participate in relief efforts for Dominica by donating food, clothes and other necessary items.
According to the founders of D.O.M, the generous support given to the Erika relief project in terms of time, effort and finance, prompted the formation in September 2015, of the organization.
“D.O.M was formed not only to unify and lend support to our country of Dominica, but also to be recognized as a group of individuals who are passionate, motivated, and dedicated and also to be acknowledged by our community here in Central Florida. One of our many prioritized goals is that everyone, no matter their nationality, be acquainted and familiarized with the Island of Dominica and its many attributes,” the organization’s PRO, Malcia Paul states in a release.
She says to date, D.O.M has contributed to relief efforts post Erika by donating over $5000.00 in food, clothing and other necessary items to the residents of Dominica. The group also held its first annual Independence event/fundraiser in Central Florida, which Paul describes as a success. She says D.O.M. intends to continue planning and implementing several fundraising events to contribute towards the needs of Dominican residents.
“So, be mindful that D.O.M.is here to stay!”, she exclaims.
She adds, “…..the organization will be the launch of many eminent and exciting ventures to come. D.O.M. is Unified, Dignified, and Energized not to mention“motivated” to accomplish and uplift our beautiful Dominica! GET READY, HERE WE COME!”
D.O.M can be contacted at [email protected] and at DominicaOrlandoMovements Nonprofit Org on Facebook.

Great job guys. Wishing you all success in everything that you do. It’s nice to see unity amount our people.
why does everything gotta be politics only dominicans
Mr. Parben and Mr. Nigel Shillingford, I understood have an organization in Florida which did an excellent job in helping Dominicans post Erika. In fact, they also invited Ambassador Henderson to address Dominicans residing in Florida during that time, is that the same organization. Ma Moses, if that is the same organization or is affiliated to D.O. M, my friend, politics has already infiltrated this organization.
Doc.Love, it’s a different organization. Parben Has a group in Miami, but this one is located in Orlando.
Doc love, just to clarify based on the article this organization is located in central Florida and is not affiliated in anyway with the organization you mentioned which to my knowledge is located in south Florida if you are familiar with the Florida regions. Also,as a current member of this group we have no political affiliation and definitely do not intend to.Our main goal is to bring together Dominicans in our region and assist with fund raising events where proceeds will be used to help those home when needed. As a fellow Dominican I would close saying politics is killing our country and we the people are the ones putting the nail in the coffin..just ease up man.
Thank you. You are right, everything in Dominica has a political tint and is stifling us. I would go further and say that for your organisation to flourish it should also be non denominational. Just help people according to need because that is the only true charity.
As long as they don’t have a political affiliation I welcome this effort but I don’t want any tie up with any party or particular politician that’s all. I’ve had enough of that. Merry christmas
Ma Moses you just had to bring politics into it. Nothing in the article spoke about politics. It’s Christmas season but that’s the first thing you had to come up with. Stupesss
Good stuff
