New political party to be launched in Dominica in August

Another political party has been formed in Dominica.

According to a press release, Team Unity Party (DTUP) has been established and duly registered as a political party on the island of Dominica. The party will be alternatively called, Team Unity Party (TUD).

One of the founding members of this new party is Alex Bruno, a former founding member of the Alternative People’s Party (APP) with which he parted company sometime after the APP was formed.

“Founders of TUD believe, and do agree, that this party platform is the required political, electoral arrangement in direct response to the present state of Dominican politics, and this is especially in line with the wishes of the overwhelming majority of the people,” the TUD states in its release. “There is no ambiguity when it comes to the wishes of the Dominican electorate. As the population continues to lose faith in the established way of doing things, this new, more inclusive approach is expected to reignite political action from people in every sphere of the Dominican society.”

The TUD has identified as its main mandate, the short to medium term reconstruction of the electoral and political processes of Dominica as its main mandate, and pledges to remain in office for only two five-year term to achieve this goal.

“This is clearly stated in the party’s Constitution,” the TUD states in its release. “The party’s slogan is ‘Faith, Love and Unity’ and its key words are ‘Together!’ or ‘United!’

The release goes on to state that the party’s ideology is rooted in what the people of Dominica demand.

“TUD is not an alternative, nor is it a left, right or centrist party; we are a party of URGENT necessity, built to address a compelling interest in favor of all the people,” the party affirms.

The TUD’s electoral symbol is the fork and the TUD says it intends to contest the Dominica general election whenever it is called.

The TUD says membership in the party is open to every Dominican, irrespective of their political party affiliation.

“TUD envisions the creation of a Dominica which will be better recognized for its natural splendor and the identity of its people through the promotion of the Nature’s Echo – One Voice out of many campaign. What this means is that, the party’s platform will be a rallying cry and promotion of the Dominican agenda,” the TUD release concludes..

The Founding Board comprises Alex Bruno – General Secretary, Carlos Charles – Deputy General Secretary, Kendra Stephen – Executive President, and Kenton St. Jean and Erwin Emmanuel.

The party says an official launch is planned for August 2022 in the village of Calibishie, after which it will share its plans and policies for the governance of Dominica.

In the meantime, the party will share its Constitutional framework with the public, each Sunday from 3:00pm on its Facebook https://www.facebook.com/tudominica and other TUD and affiliates social media pages.

TUD is currently meeting with the Dominican electorate on its manifesto building mission.

I want to echo Meredith’s observation. Whilst some in the diaspora argue that it is not OK for the non-resident Dominicans to come here and participate in our elections as voters, it seems OK for certain elements in the diaspora to produce programs on radio and social media seeking to influence residents to vote against the current government. They send money and provide all kinds of assistance, and support all kinds of campaign against government. They remain death, dumb and blind in supporting the candidacy of a non-resident national who in 2014 general elections, came and sought election to the parliament of Dominica on a UWP ticket, only to retreat in shameful defeat after a solid beating at the hands of a marauding DLP. We now have the formation of two political parties, since the last general elections coming out of the bosom of the diaspora’s campaign to support any semblance of opposition to government. They both have one objective in mind. Get skerrit out at any cost

So Frank N Stein if what you say is true, why did 1,163 voters not vote UWP in the 2019 election. If you still have braincells left remember in 2014 UWP got 17,587 votes. In 2019 they got 16,424 votes. It would be true to say that Skerrit paid the 1,163 not to vote UWP,or did he?.You must tell your rotten memory that the PEOPLE of Dominica has never voted UWP.To remove you from a diminishing pack of AHOLES the 1,163 voters who did not vote UWP did not vote DLP.The Dominican people have rejected, and will continue to reject UWP.

“Spinning top in mud” that’s what this whole lunching of a new political party is all about; like the Trini calypso says “snake in the balizie” boy we like it so.

If I was Skerrit I would give Alex some seeding money to get his party of the ground, with the understanding that he only field candidates in Salisbury, Marigot and Roseau North, in order to help split UWP votes to allow labor to swoop in and mop up. This would help Skerrit achieve the 21 – 0 at the next election which he would be happy to achieve.

Alex is of the view that he’s destined to lead Dominica and it looks like he won’t stop forming or joining political parties just so he can fulfill his dream. Alex, you have reduced yourself to circus clown status having tried to play a dominant role in existing political organizations and leaving once you didn’t attain the power and position you sought. Schooling alone is not education and one has to apply wisdom and common sense for that schooling to be worthy. You, Alex, are only seeking to dilute the vote total of the opposition thereby assisting Skerritt to remain in office. We’re you promised something in exchange for diluting the vote? You need to learn to be patient, to be strategic, and work among the people to gain support for your political ambitions. You’ve squandered your political and leadership capital and should stop acting like a hyena. There’s no shame in not being the leader of a party or country. Future playwrights will have a lot to work with.

JJ does that ring a bell in your ears. I suspect you had that same message for your leader.

Alex used the UWP,he told them they had 14 sure seats in the 2019 general election. It turned out Alex was making an ahole of UWP and their supporters.TUD stand a better chance than UWP,at lease they have not shown the high lever of corruption, victimization, lies and greed displayed by UWP between 1995 and 2000.

well if only the domincans who lived and were legally eligible to vote then yes, 14 seats. Not imported bribed domincans that only come home to vote on free tickets and cool out money from the DLP.

No, not all of them. Apparently some have a Dutch EU passport that they would be in danger of losing if they also took out a Dominican one without the prior approval of the Dutch government, which is locally represented by a member of the Astaphan family

Just what we need in Dominica – another political party. :-x
Alex, I am not sure if you realize this, but your credibility is waning as far as politics is concerned.

Frankly we do not need another political party in Dominica in particular if it turns out to be one which is just sitting on the fence. We don’t need anymore ‘clever’ speeches but instead we need ongoing and constructive criticism against Skerrit, his ministers and the DLP. What we also need is constant and regular protest against the current government and its institutions, namely the police and the court system.

My kakroach brain can’t understand the level of obsession uwp and minions have with one individual. Why make someone seem more invincible than they are, even if they were why tell them everyday for free. What a dumb political stategy it is to be mystifying your opponent. Kakroach.

What does Politics have to do with “Unity” when each group is always fighting for their own political gains, as they expect the people to stand with them? Do these people even know the meaning of “unity”? What nonsense!

A new party headed by Alex called TUD? Man a still born baby that which should be called more appropriate DUD. Alex, that smells of sour grapes man. You too much of a self-centred chameleon that only wants to split the opposition vote on behalf of you know who. You even less trustworthy than the sitting P.M. himself. Good luck to all who sail in the good ship DUD.

Alex Bruno you again! You have reduced yourself to just a political menace. You have attempted to be a part of DLP, UWP, DFP, App but have been unceremoniously rejected. What with this continual preoccupation with political power?

You seem desperate for power Desperate people do desperate things. The political landscape in Dominica is already overcrowded. Mr. Bruno, you are making yourself out to be just a mere punching bag for political humour.
