New Portsmouth housing development to be named after Rosie Douglas

Portsmouth housing

The new Housing Development in Georgetown, Portsmouth will be named after the late Rosie Douglas, a former prime minister of Dominica.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit made the announcement during a handing-over ceremony recently.

Sixty-eight families have already benefited from this new development. Twenty-four (24) received keys for their new homes, while the remaining 44 will receive their new homes in the upcoming weeks.

“We have decided to name this housing development in honour of our late Parl Rep [Parliamentary Representative] and Prime Minister Rosie Douglas,” he revealed. “This development will be known as the Rosie Douglas Housing Development.”

Prime Minister Skerrit advised residents to take care of their new homes and to avoid quarrels with neighbours.

“If you are going to name the place after Rosie who has been good to so many of us in Dominica, one, you have to maintain the place clean; two, you have to keep the flowers planted and three, no noise among neighbours,” he advised. “It’s only peace and love.”

The prime minister cited the  CBI-funded project as am example of how the government has been able to utilize the Citizenship By Investment Program to directly benefit of families and residents of Dominica.

“We have had the CBI Program since 1993 and the only tangible things that you have seen the CBI has done for Dominica is under this Dominica Labour Party [DLP],” Skerrit stated. “This is the only party that can point to things – housing, infrastructure – that had been done in the country utilizing these funds, so we are grateful for this medium for raising funds.”

According to him, had it not been for this CBI funds, “and not only the CBI funds in itself”, but the prudent management of the funds, “we would have been in great difficulties after this Hurricane Maria.”

Congratulations to all those who will enjoy the pie on the ground. These houses showcase the competence of the DLP in changing “pie in the sky” to pudding on the table. You know what they say…the taste of the pudding is in the eating.
The Housing Revolution is right on.
Is am Agricultural Revolution in the making ? Every DLP candidate that has been launch is talking about giving Agriculture #1…. top priority.
We see the expansion of houses and hotels, roads and bridges and hospital to boost the construction sector. We see strides in the tourist sector. Now the awareness is focused on the Agricultural sector, (farming, fisheries and food, the 3 F’s )
I this the gateway to a policy to cluster/bundle these three sectors as the driving force to develop Dominica to the next level ?
Are plans being formulated to decentralize government management activities to execute on a constituency basis, the two portfolio system ? It looks like that to me.

Come out boldly and say that you are against this act of housing people who otherwise would have died in their situation. You all are so ridiculous and you are not seeing it is not giving you any advantage.
I was among those who thought that Roosevelt Skerrit was going to be voted out of office but people like you have put him back up because you anger those he helps and their family into supporting him even stronger.

What about the monies received from international donors to assist in rebuilding the country. The truth of the matter is the houses that are being built is no where close to the money donated plus the missing 1.2 billion dollars.Tell the people the truth about there money. That money would advance the country immensely.

In a foreign bank account somewhere. Most likely Panama or Switzerland. We will find out soon, possibly within the next 6 month. Skerrit thinks he is clever…

Skerrit is the best eh. Naming the housing project after Roosie is an election ploy to gain sympathy from the people he phucked by pushing Ross out. But that good for posse people. Take it like a man.

    Yeah!!!
Under this Labour Party, questions are still being asked re $$$1.219 billion dollars. The false God himself said if money from his false Housing Component were to be included in the estimates, it would be $EC2.2 billion dollars! So where is the money?
    Whey is the money?
    Whey is the money?

Just to clarify something… After the DLP has been replaced with the UWP, our new government will continue to provide housing for those who desperately need it. There is someone reading this who needs reassurance. Our UWP government will take care of you. It is not Skerrit’s money that paying for these homes, it’s our money. Yours and mine, the money belongs to all of us. Skerrit has to leave it all in our treasury when he going.

“Prudent management of the CBI funds” the PM said. But up till now his accountants cannot give a reliable account of the funds.

This is the government that has stolen more of the CBI funds.

    Skerrit.

Giving people houses in a poor country is not a good way to use CBI funds. Any fool can tell you so.

What you need to do is to use the CBI funds to stimulate the economy through agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, ….

If these people are not working then you will have a ghetto in ten years. Same occurred in Jamaica. Seaga build and gave people houses. Today, it is a ghetto.

Boss man, please stimulate the economy so that civil servants can build homes and get a raise.

Listen, what you are doing will never stimulate the economy.

    We continue to be last.

You run out of ideas and plans for Dominica. All you are doing now is ” Abra-ka-dabra”

    Move sir.

This is the bland standard of imported architectural design that future generations of Dominicans will inherit.

I stress that I am referring to design and not to the need for housing.

When he was alive they stabbed him in the back, crooked him and gave him an early homegoing and now they want to honor him? So every election cycle Skerrit naming something after Rosie then. Last election was the airport and now is the housing.
