No amicable solution yet, says DPSU’s Thomas Letang

Thomas Letang

No amicable solution has been arrived at, as the union representing public officers continues to dialogue with government on salary increases for its members.

Both teams met last week Friday to hold further discussions on the matter after the Dominica Public Service Union (DPSU), rejected government’s offer of 1% salary increase for 2010/11 and 1% for 2011/12.

General Secretary of the DPSU, Thomas Letang, says government has not changed its position and neither has the union.

“We have requested some information from government as far as their expenditure goes. They have indicated that it will take a week. Once we get that, we will do our analysis and we will move from there,” he said.

He says there are a lot of areas that government has been spending money and that must be looked into.

Letang says members of his organization have not ruled out industrial action.

here is how you should come with the facts before you start making demnands.

    1) find from government service how much duty free it gave out for 2010-2012 without regards to supporters, in other words the money that would have been in the treasury.
    2) how much LPO given to people to buy windows, door etc to people that can afford. how much the treasury has lost. ask de hunter
    3) the amount of money all ministers made for 2010-2012 including perks.. salaries
    4) how much government paid for medicals for its supporters that have medical insurance using state funds like charles severin.
5)how much does government pay for gas for ministers private vehicles that they received duty free.

then after all this you can compare what a 1 percent can do for a servant with a $1300.00 salary

Mr letang is digging for himself a pit. The civil servants cannot have any confidence in Letang when letang lacks fortitude. He told us that Xmas Barrels was a deciding factor and now e wants to see government expenditures. What a joke. So when the government expenditures comes back as “ugly” what is letang going to say? I guess e will villais his Langue.
Letang you are just another talking device who collect at the end of te month and nothing to show – like Parry, the advisors, the ministers, ambassadors, diaspora coordinator, the UN mission, Francine, Charlo etc.

Stop fooling the civil servants Letang. You cannot call a strike as you do not have the union members with you like Savarin used to have. Accept the 1% deal, place your tail between your legs and resign.

it is time we public servants stand up for better pay. We always talking and not acting. That is why I love the french people because when they decide to strike they strike. They dont wait for poor people to get their barrels for christmas. They touch the government where it hurts. Best we get some french personnel to head our Workers Union. Government can surely afford more than 1 cent on my salary which social security is going to take back. Let us go on strike. Close schools, airports, police stations, fire stations, government buildings – Together we are a force to be reckoned with divided we can accomplish nothing.

DNO quotes Mr. Letang: “‘We have requested some information from government as far as their expenditure goes. They have indicated that it will take a week. Once we get that, we will do our analysis and we will move from there,’ he said”.

I have always thought of the DPSU under Mr. Letang to be a responsible body, not prone to orgasmic responses/reactions. This statement further strengthens my conviction.

Somehow the pre-christmas bravado and showmanship of the DPSU’s boss seemingly is wearing off. I see reality check is staring him in the face. Perhaps he should be reminded of the editorial of the New Chronicle of October 5th 2012. “With public sentiment, nothing can fail”. If paraphrased with reference to the DPSU and its struggles, it should read “with total membership support, industrial action cannot fail”. Like Eddy and his designs on the Dominican psyche when attempting to put boots on the ground, that kind of massive support from the union membership is lacking. Stop insulting Public Officers by saying they are scared of victimization. Public Officers want more pay through a bigger salary increase, but Public Officers also know that country cannot afford more at this time.

There will be no surprises in government expenditures. Who needs a analysis report when everything is written like graffiti on the walls. Over sized cabinet, oversized security detail, overpaid senior counsels, non productive advisors like we knw who they are, useless ambassador ABC andD, overpriced contracts for companies owned by ambient members. The biggest Sam is the salary and expenses of the ministers and abet members. Then letang take a look at the red clinic and the people who are getting the red clinic money

So what does that mean? Once you get the gov. expenditure, you’ll do your analysis. Haven’t you known that this government has been spending money in a lot of areas for a long time? There’s so much money in circulation, that people were sending money to help families overseas, according to your leader. But, not on your wages! I thought you were giving the poor a break during the holidays, to receive their boxes/barrels @ the dock. Then, you’d be ready to take the right stand as a responsible leader of the DPSU. Wonder, what’s next man?

the government has no respect for us, the state employees. they claim fiscal cliff only when it applies to them but spend lavishly in other areas on things that are sometimes unnecessary. the 1% will only be absorbed by social security so how is that supposed to improve the lives of government employed citizens? this is not the next level I voted for….I regret that decision now.

   :?: Letang garcon! When are u gonna stop these illegal guys from taking u all for ride? Can’t u see that they are foot dragging and playing delay tactics as they’ve been doing in all areas? They delay the courts, they delay compensating people they owe whom they think is opposed to them, while they raise their salaries and rob the state!Every time the issue of salary for public servants comes up,they cry out the economy is not good, but when it comes to playing their dirty politics on their propaganda radio show, they say all is good!So if it’s good enough to create jobs for people like Parry Bellot, who does nothing for the country but criticise the public servants, you all should take a stand with boots on the ground and demand for your honest wages and oust them at the same time! These illegal rogues should fear you and not u fearing them, the power is in your hands!   :?:

Oust Them: “you all should take a stand with boots on the ground and demand for your honest wages and oust them at the same time!”

Let’s see now, having been repeatedly rejected by the electorate, the UWPwee seeks to return to power through all means but the ballot box, because it knows that the Dominican people will not vote it back into power. So, it tries to create a climate that it hopes will result in “boots on the ground”, which will drive out the DLP administration. SMH! Keep dreaming.

You have a lot of screaming and waiting to do for this ousting, Oust Them.

One thing if Dominica were smart citizens the Island Would not be labelled the Poorest in the Eastern Caribbean why…

Institutions and the wider Public accept way too Much Misleading Information from their Government.

Dominica will continue to be a back bencher Island
Unless the above parties seek to raise the Bar of Thinking…

When you see Dominicans they seem lack lustre Unable to take action, plenty chatter but nothing To show in terms of Progress based on actions.

If Citizens make a demand you would be surprise to See the Government wake up…

But this Labour Regime takes the Majority of Dominicans as Fools, Uneducated, Beggars and Soccer Balls to kick around!..

But again is Dominica not a island that thinks Big Or wants anything better! so to hell with them and Their Ignorance!

Letang go and rest with you Family you a good Man The rest of the servants are not yet serious for Upward Movement!

1% you must be kidding me!! this will be absorded right back into taxes, leaving us with a net gain of 00%. How can you Mr. latang even think of going to the table with this offer as a neigotiating tool?
By now even you should realize that it is only industrial action that will force this Gov’t to come up with respectable figures for the people who keep Dominica going. “Civil Servant.”
