No case of coronavirus in Dominica as of Sunday Health Minister says

A scene at the Ferry Terminal on Sunday

To date, Dominica remains one of the few Caribbean islands that have not recorded any positive case of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Health Minister, Irving McIntyre made this announcement in a statement on Sunday night.

McIntyre said over the past week, numerous COVID-19 tests have been carried out and so far, all came back negative.

“This doesn’t mean that we will never get a case of coronavirus but at present, we do not have any positive case of coronavirus in Dominica,” he noted.

The Health Minister stated that many of our proactive measures, surveillance and home quarantine activities may create fake news and misinformation and has urged that Dominicans should only to pay attention to the information being released by the Ministry of Health.

The Minister’s statement comes in the wake of the circulation of a video on social media yesterday, Sunday, which showed an ambulance at the Ferry Terminal in Roseau and an individual in a hazmat suit apparently sanitizing an area inside the terminal.

It turns out that situation had to do with a family a Dominican family of 4 which arrived here on Sunday after being on a cruise ship in Martinique on which there were two confirmed cases of coronavirus.

Dominica News Online (DNO) was able to ascertain from sources associated with the ferry that the family was tested before boarding the ferry to Dominica and the results were negative.

Health officials have confirmed that on arrival in Dominica further tests were conducted, they again tested negative but were sent into isolation at home as a precautionary measure.

“We are closely monitoring the scenario of COVID-19 and we will give you honest and factual updates as time goes along,” Dr. McIntyre says.

He called on members of the public to come together and play their part in combating this disease adding “this is not a time for divisive action.”

The Health minister advised persons to practise regular hand washing, proper respiratory etiquette and social distancing.

He encouraged people who may have any important information relating to COVID-19 to call the ministry’s hotline at 448-2151.

Well lets give the authorities the benefit of the doubt…and say there are no cases in Dominica..That’s good,,give GOD all the glory,,and cont. to pray that it never gets there. I would hate to believe,as one of you commented that persons might have died with it and the authorities is keeping it under rap..They will be fooling themselves big time bcuz that virus is very slick,,it’s like the under current,,flows beneath and is pulling down as it goes..It certainly won’t do them any good to do such a thing since they won’t have space to bury people before long…
So I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and feel good that there’s no one down there with it…
Be vigilant folks and follow the advice of the experts,,not rumors,,and fear not..
I’ll be praying for you all..Lifting you all up before the throne of the ALMIGHTY GOD…
    Be safe and GOD bless

“This doesn’t mean that we will never get a case of corona virus but at present, we do not have any positive case of corona virus in Dominica,” he noted. has everyone here in Dominica been tested for Covid-19? No, so how could this be determined that there is no positive case in Dominica? such an irresponsible statement by a minister of Government. no one has been tested positive on the contrary. this same minister is speaking of misleading the public and fake news…smh we are in such a sad predicament as a society that it is not funny anymore! makes me wonder what sample size of the population has been tested or has anyone been really tested.

Gooood day to the government and people of Dominica….
That’s good news that we have not Caras yet… But please beaware that the virus is highly highly contagious….
Remember it has to be imported, how do you do such…. Restricting the movement of people’s in n out of Dominica.
The government should lock down the country for at least 14 days n say no too allll cruiseships n ensure those coming on planes are tested n those coming from places with the virus be under self quarantine..
We alll know that, one case is one case to many…
    Pm put things in place..
The communication department of the government should inform the people with credible news…. N no fake news….
Close the bars n social gatherings.
    Social spacing n person hygiene…
    Personality responsibility…
    Government please act now..

Sadly in Dominica these days we can get the dead to vote and even to tell us who they voted for but we cannot get them to tell us what was their cause of death and what symptoms they had. According to AT, if only the dead could talk! Then they would be able to tell us how they had the symptoms of the coronavirus so we could protect others. But the dead can’t talk and most times family members cannot talk either, even if they have because what talking in Dominica these days is money, money money, moneeeey

” Dominica remains one of the few Caribbean islands that have not recorded any positive case of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).”
I have said it before and I will repeat again. Dominica will bury people that died from COVID-19, before we here of any one tested positive. I would not be surprised to hear that we buried a few already but they were never tested and the dead cannot talk to tell us.
