PCSS students appreciate teachers in a big way

The students of the Pierre Charles Secondary School (PCSS) went all out to show appreciation to their teachers on Teacher’s Appreciation Day observed here on Thursday.

The students worked “behind the scenes” during the course of the week, raising funds and planning, so that their teachers would be pleasantly surprised on the day itself.

The day began with normal sessions until break time when the teachers were surprised with gifts in their various subject classes throughout that period.

The last two hours of the day were given to the students to execute what they had planned in the form of a special assembly and this was when the teachers were truly appreciated.

The students took charge during that time and instructed the teachers to remain in the staffroom as they mobilized the rest of the student body and had them organized in the school’s auditorium.

The senior students then came to escort the teachers to the auditorium and for a moment it seemed like “the tables had turned” since the students were giving the teachers instructions and they appeared to be in charge of everything.

Upon arrival at the auditorium, each teacher was ushered to their seat by a student amidst applause by the rest of the student body.

The assembly began with a praise and worship session with a special prayer for the teachers done by one of the students.

Students who had gifts for their teachers were then called upon to present them with brief remarks. There were several emotional moments when various students serenaded some teachers and uttered some heart-warming words of appreciation to a particular teacher.

The teachers were then entertained with a slide show of pictures which evoked much laughter and joy while a poem was read by a few students.

The new principal of the school, Jerome Bardouille, then took to the stage and  gave a few words of encouragement to the teachers and advised them that they should “not worry”  as he began to sing Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds”.

A student then accompanied him with his rendition and the teachers then joined in as they sang and danced along. As the programme was coming to an end, a couple of teachers briefly entertained the students with song and dance. At the end of the special assembly, a few teachers expressed their gratitude to the students for appreciating them in such a special way.

The teachers were then taken to the Home Economics Room where they were treated to some light refreshments.

The teachers felt contented but more was in store for them when they were treated to a surprise luncheon prepared by some of the parents of the students. It was a fitting way to end the day and the teachers were very thankful for the gesture by the students of the institution.

Wonderful job PCSStudents. Keep up the good work. I mvery proud of you guys.

Teachers are so seldom appreciated or rewarded for their hard work ( which is one of the reasons I myself chose to leave teaching).

But its nice to see that once in a while they do get their dues. keep doing such a great job teachers. you are a fine example to the kids.

And once again kids, NICE work. this is a true testament to your strength of character

so often teachers encounter such ingratitude… when students of their own free make the effort to show gratitude it is always welcomed and appreciated. Bouquets for all students who made their teachers feel appreciated this week. May God blessing be upon you all.

I am so moved. What a great way to appreciate our teachers’! Continue the good work students’.

Teachers’ this is all the more reason to shine in the classroom since it is evident that your students have your best interest at heart.

Believe me when I say that they are watching your every move and they know when you are genuine. I know so because I am a teacher. They truly love you.

This is something to emulate fellow Dominicans.

This is moving to know the appreciation of students to their teachers. Teachers in bygone years were not so fortunate. In those days, the idea never crossed the mind of students to express their appreciation in such a manner for their teachers.
Congratulations PCSS students. You have done an excellent job of demonstrating your appreciation to your teachers.
Teachers should really be shown appreciation. They desere it. Consider the students they teach who graduated and went on to higher studies. They graduated and were successful in obtaining a stable-paying job with a bright and successful future. Teachers are to be primarily commended for this. Too often they are not appreciated.
Parents, I am elated to know that you took an interest in your children’s plans and assisted them in organizing this teachers’ appreciation event and lunch. Hats off to you. It is an event that the teachers will never forget.
Let us hope that other students in Dominica will emulate them in whatever manner they feel fit to express their appreciation of their teachers.
Parents + Students + Teachers. We could state vice versa. It adds up to communication and cooperation. Students who also practice them will greatly benefit from these virtues.
    God bless all of you!

I recall those days especially in high school, the time there were the Bishop, Father Superior, Mother Superior and the Principal, who was a nun of course :) birthday including dignitaries’ visits and other holidays, how happy I was to get the rest of the day off as the other students. After the assembly in the school hall, of prayers, speeches and singing we were sent home for the rest of the day. We looked forward to those days. Gone but not forgotten. There were other enjoyable times. Any mention of school brings back those memories.

Indirectly, you are spoiling the event. You must be one bitter person. No wonder. You comment under ‘Anonymous.’ I feel sorry for you that you do not appreciate the effort of the students to show their appreciation to their teachers. Teachers do deserve appreciation. They talk/teach all day, exerting all their energy to ensure their students grasp their teaching and explanation in order to write their exam and to pass it with flying colors and graduate.
Even though teachers are getting paid, they do deserve recognition and appreciation. They are humans too.
