Petro Caribe will continue to contribute – Deputy General Manager

Paul MosesDeputy General Manager of PDV Caribe Dominica Paul Moses has admitted that it wasn’t easy to get the company off the ground.
June 29th marked the 8th anniversary of the signing of the agreement between Venezuela and Dominica.Moses told the second annual Customer Appreciation Day held to recognize 55 agents on Wednesday, that despite the teething pains, the company will continue to make a significant contribution to the development of the country.
“It has not been an easy road to where we are now. We embarked on this journey amidst much skepticism among some segments of the populace. When we won the contract to supply DOMLEC with diesel, we had little times to organize the resources and expertise to meet our obligations under the contracts. Consequently, we met with bumps and stops here and there along the journey but we knew our mission,” he explained.
According to Moses, Dominicans gave their support and encouragement to the company and kept faith with it.“We knew there were benefits from the Petro Caribe agreement and we ensured that Dominica received those benefits. This mission was our motivation. It reassured us to overcome every challenge along the way,” he said.Sales and Marketing Manager of Petro Caribe Ian Pinard, said the company has invested significantly into the fishing sector.

We have constructed six gas stations around Dominica. PetroCaribe have invested in excess of one million dollars and all that is to help in the social project and fishing industry. Fishermen now have more money in their pockets because they don’t have to go far to get fuel. It is now readily available,” he explained.

Pinard said further that the company has also contributed to the social development in Dominica.

“We are making available a free cylinder to each of the centenarian in Dominica and also under the Yes We Care program. So far we have 17 centenarians and well over 130 under the yes we care, totaling over $3000 every month,” he said.

The refurbishment of the Portsmouth Waterfront, the construction of Petro Cassa houses and infrastructural development are among other areas of investment undertaken by Petro Caribe.

According to Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and Lands Ivor Stevenson,  Petro Caribe has delivered on its promise to be an independent and active development partner to Dominica.

“Be reassured that Petro Caribe is here to stay,” he said.

He said plans have been devised for the long term viability of the company.

Among them, according to Stevenson, is the erection of a river defense wall along the southern perimeter of the plant.

DOMLEC received the “Biggest Client” award, while the Fond St Jean Fisheries Cooperative was awarded for their outstanding performance over the years.

Mr. Carbon, now that you have given us the great news about Petro Caribe,to which we would like to say thank you. But according to the agreement between Dominica and Venezuela,Petro Caribe operates under 60/40 percent tranaction. We would like to know what is the debt owed to Venezuela.Did you forget to make mention of that report in your speech or is it a case of, none of your darm business, how much money we owe Venzuela.

Petro Caribe, why is it that you have never contributed to the community of Simon Bolivar in the construction of a Petro Cassas resource centre to help the young ones of Simon Bolivar, or even help in putting up some facility at the Children’s playground? Why haven’t you all contact someone in Simon Bolivar to get things moving there? You must remember this is the first Venezuelan community being named by your Liberator, SIMON BOLIVAR. JUST TALK, TALK, FAND NOTHING HAPPENING.

Yes, it’s Frabo again. I love to read just to pick the meat from the bones. Look some bones: “Fishermen have more money in their pockets because they don’t have to go far to get fuel.” I called two fishermen and asked them whether it was so; and they told me “it’s not true.”
