Plans afoot to overcome health sector challenges – Timothy

Timothy

Health Ministry and Parliamentary Representative for Roseau North Julius Timothy said the recent approval of the Ministry of Health strategic plan up to 2019 is geared at overcoming the challenges in the sector.

He told the Dominica Labour Party Delegates Conference in Grand Fond on Sunday that the plan is also the catalyst for achieving the sector’s goal.

Timothy said government has also implemented several other policies to improve the health sector of Dominica.

“Studies have shown that our present health and social problems can be prevented and controlled since they are linked to our behavior lifestyles and cultural environment,” he said.

Timothy said government will continue to implement several policies in an effort to meet its goal.

As much as I enjoy visiting this DNO, I often get frustrated for what passes as news. When a minister makes statements such as this, including the other article on ‘buggery’, I implore DNO to give the people of Dominica as much information as possible and stop posting these simple ‘press releases’. For one, the Strategic Health Plan is available in 2 volumes, with one being the Situation Analysis touched on in the ‘buggery’ article. I was able to obtain electronic copies by simply sending an e-mail to the ministry of health after a previous ‘article’ on the subject. And this leads to my second point, it would help is DNO linked previous ‘articles’ to current ones to give an accurate picture of the situation. I wanted to see for myself what’s in the document because of my interest in public health. And thus my last point, DNO could either make the document available to the public to put aside questions of availability and so we can move the conversation forward to whether they can actually accomplish what’s been stated or give people ways to get the documents.

Just sound bites. Tim what is the plan. This should have taken priority over that uneccessary state house you keep pushing. I am no UWP – but the thing is most Dominicans are happy with this type of poor governance!!!

These people just talk talk talk. Up till now he hasnt detailed any plan. He said that it`s up till 2019, which means we are supposed to go blindly and give you guys another term and another to see if anything will materialize. Wow!!! I don`t hear any talk about human resource development, investing in staff training, medical equipment and instruments etc… They have only one person doing scans and the lady is retired. had to come back on contractual basis, magweysa… You mean to tell me we can`t send people overseas to train to use all these equipments so that the healthcare system can be more efficient? And then he smiles to us and tells us about his plan…

I’ve been in the system long enough to see a lifetime of FIVE YEAR PLANS, TEN YEAR PLANS, and all kind of plans.
Things have gotten worse and worse, not better.

Tim Tim, boy, I not holding my breath on this one, nuh!

I hope that the quality of human resources will be a major component of the plan, and will start at the top.

Also note that there are very written protocols now in the present system and this needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency. We do not need to wait for new infrastructure to work on developing these.

Mr timothy ,I trust you will deliver .I worked with you in the past and i know your determination will materialise, health for all in Dominica. You don’t have to be a medical specialist to manager health or be the health.. take example on the UK NHS

You’ve no idea what you are talking about and as for this plan what is it, does it exist, this is all sound bites by peopls who manage a population who are content with mediocrity.
Rather than hoping that he will deliver you should be challinging him to make his plan public and produce.
At a time when the rest of the world is demanding good governance from their representatives we as Dominicans are happy with rubbish in the name of development.
Signs are that this so called administration will remain in office for a long time but that does not make the future bright, world histry proves that.

Tim, stop running your mouth and build that state-of-the-art General Hospital once and for all. Make sure it has three to four modern operating theatres.

Unless these plan include education, inclusion, tolerance and recourse in the courts for violation it will be a useless plan.
